This is sure to stir up controversy, but what in your opinion, is the best band? I'm not asking what your favorite band is, but the best in terms of most diverse songs and unique music along with professional music. Imo, I would have to say Led Zeppelin.

As far as classic rock bands go, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd take the cake. The best band imo is Nirvana though

I love Nirvana as well, but don't know about them being the best as far as diversity. Cobain had eclectic taste in music though which really shined his covers...esp since a lot of people didn't know they were covers. The Clash was pretty good too.

Yeah Nirvana was fantastic, but didn't really have that much diversity. The Clash is a fantastic band as well. I just feel like Zeppelin had so much diversity in their music. They would go from hard rock, ballads, blue grass/western sounding music and even made some alternative songs. Heck, they even made a reggae song.

the best band is the beatles. best live band, zeppelin would be. i beleive floyd is in that discussion. top 3. radiohead's probably in that. those coupled with nirvana, the strokes and arctic monkeys in this era do it for me.

I have such a wide range of musical tastes... it's really hard to say one band is the best.
So I'll just go with the band that has been the largest part of my life, and that is Iron Maiden. Yeah, the British Heavy Metal band was introduced to me way back in High School, either 81 or 82, a friend asked me if I'd heard of Iron Maiden, and I joked and said, "What, did Black Sabbath make a followup song to Iron Man?" We took off to his place, he took out the two LPs Iron Maiden and Iron Maiden - Killers. I was hooked instantly by the awesome artwork of their mascot Eddie... and I've been hooked ever since.
In fact, tomorrow, Friday the 13th of Sept... My wife and I are going down the hill from us (about 30 minute drive) to see Iron Maiden again. And even though I'm in my late 40s, I'm still as giddy as I was when I first seen them in 82, Oakland California, day on the green concert.

Can't wait.
Sorry about the rant... I'm hyped up for the show!!!

Up The Irons!!!
Sam

The Beatles are the greatest band of all time.
Pink Floyd is right up there too.

U2

They are still making good music now and have a new album due out early next year I think. Apparently it's really good and could be their best work since Achtung Baby.

Impossible to answer. Impossible.

But I'm bored so: The Beatles. :hehe:

Same here.

Very hard to say, I listen to so much music of all types (well except country lol)

so many amazing bands trying to do different things in varying eras, hard to give the nod to anyone in particular. I'd say by era it'd be Beatles, Floyd/Zeppelin, Radiohead, Muse.

uuhh...for me it's Genesis at first and then Barclay James Harvest , Alan Parsons Project and.....don't shoot me...the Bee Gees :word:

but like you said before....actually it's impossible to judge

Not best, just favourite:

Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, Talking heads, The Doors, Velvet underground

And individual singers: Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Bjork

Favorite. Don't listen to much rock, but I enjoy goo goo dolls.

No such thing as best band, but my favourite is Metallica \m/ my musical passion.

I feel like The Rolling Stones is the only sensible answer, and I don't even like them all that much.
