whhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?
I was actually looking forward to it after all the amazing reviews and it was very....average. Nothing spectacular. Although I do love Scorcese but definitely not for this film

I'd say No Country For Old Men is the best Best Picture winner of the decade. But the funny thing is, I don't think it was even the best film nominated - There Will Be Blood was superior, in my opinion.

And that to me is incredible. No Country For Old Men was undoubtedly an incredible film, a deserving winner and one of the finest films of the decade. But you had, nominated alongside it, There Will Be Blood, which could very well be THE best movie of the decade. Both films were so good that, in any other year, either one of them would have stood out as the clear winner. But they both came out in the same year and so were nominated for Best Picture at the same Oscars.

Ugh I can't stand Slumdog Millionare being a Best Picture winner, and before you jump to conclusions, it has absolutely nothing to with TDK, I just legitamately don't like it on its own merits, or lack there of.

The Wrestler should've gotten nominatied and won best picture.

Hell, I even liked Frost/Nixon and Milk more than Slumdog.

Anyway, I chose Return of The King. It was the perfect ending to a trilogy, and I felt it worked well as a stand-alone film.

2007 was a good year.

Yeah, I can think of at least 5 films I could say deserve the title "Best Picture" in any other year:

-Sweeney Todd
-There Will Be Blood
-The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
-No Country For Old Men
-Juno

and there was also:

-Atonement
-Michael Clayton
-Eastern Promises
-American Gangster
-3:10 to Yuma
-Charlie Wilson's War (light, some hated it, but I liked it)

In general 2007 was a great year for American film.

Zodiac. :cmad:

Ah, crap. I just pulled an Academy. ;) :oldrazz:

Yeah, like most people due to its March release date, I forgot about Zodiac. Put that on the "Coulda/shoulda Best Picture" list.

I also just remembered Into the Wild being a really good film from that year.

Like I said, 2007 was awesome.

I didnt even like The Hurt Locker... prefer to get my war movie fix somewhere better

Slumdog Millionaire was such a unique and wonderful film that just captured my heart...Its story was so rich and uplifting especially during a time when depressing cinema was ruling Hollywood...I loved the film and it will a alltime great with me

1. Slumdog Millionaire
2. Return of the King
3. The Departed
4. Gladiator
5. Crash
6. No Country for Old Men
7. The Hurt Locker
8. Million Dollar Baby
9. A Beautiful Mind
10. Chicago

The Departed, hands down.

As for a list:

1. The Departed
2. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
3. Gladiator
4. Chicago
5. A Beautiful Mind
6. Slumdog Millionaire
7. No Country For Old Men
8. Crash
9. The Hurt Locker
10. Million Dollar Baby (I actually hate this movie, even though I loved Mystic River and Letters from Iwo Jima)

The irony is only The Departed and Gladiator--maybe ROTK, as well--were the actual best films of their years. All the others I can think of anywhere between 2-15 that I thought were better. But that's just the Academy, eh? ;) :oldrazz:

Yeah I though Crash was a little better but other than that I completely agree with you. The Departed be in my top five

Easily No Country for Old Men for me. A Cormac McCarthy fan couldn't have been happier.

No Country For Old Men - 10/10
The Hurt Locker - 9/10
Return of the King - 9/10
The Departed - 8/10
Gladiator - 5/10
Slumdog Millionaire - 4/10
Crash - 3/10

Haven't seen Chicago, Million Dollar Baby and A Beautiful Mind. Need to rewatched ROTK, too. I don't think I've seen it since its theatrical release.

I'm pretty sure I'm the only one in the world who dislikes those.:csad:

1. No Country for Old Men
2. Gladiator
3. The Hurt Locker
4. The Departed
5. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
6. Million Dollar Baby
7. Crash
8. Chicago

I never saw A Beautiful Mind but I'm sure it's better than Slumdog Millionaire, anything's better than that over rated heaping pile of feces.

Why exactly do people hate Slumdog Millionaire again?

Of the movies I've seen, I don't think any of them deserved to win best picture (only commenting on the movies I've actually seen).

Gladiator (2000) - It was okay, but I liked it better the first time when it was called Braveheart.

Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King (2003) - Good movie, but weakest of the trilogy and least deserving of the win, I liked the movie, but it wasn't the best picture, all of it's awards were for the previous two snubbings.

Million Dollar Baby (2004) - The second half was so boring, was happy when Clint Eastwood finally pulled the plug and I could turn it off.

Crash (2005) - This movie was crap, the "racial tension" was so heavy handed I thought I was watched a very special episode of an '80s sitcom. Have no idea way this got so much praise.

The Departed (2006) - A good movie, but like LOTR won for so many MS snubbings before.

Slumdog Millionaire (2008) - I hated this movie, it was total crap, so every pivotal moment in this kids life pertains to a question he's asked on Who Wants to be a Millionaire?!?! Really? Maybe if they took out the Who Wants to be a Millionaire parts it would be better, but seeing as that's "glue" holding the movie together it completely destroys the movie.

I've got to go A Beautiful Mind, Crowe shows there why he is the greatest actor of his generation. Hands Down. Connely is great in it too, along with Harris and Bettany. Damn now im going to go watch that movie.

Here's what I think:

1. Return of the King
2. No Country for Old Men
3. The Departed (I still prefer the HK original The Infernal Affair better)
4. The Hurt Locker
5. Million Dollar Baby
6. Gladiator
7. A Beautiful Mind
8. Slumdog Millionaire
9. Chicago
10. Crash

I said Gladiator. That, RotK, The Departed, and A Beautiful Mind are the only ones that I feel actually deserved their wins. The rest can suck it.

Why exactly do people hate Slumdog Millionaire again?

I don't hate Slumdog Millionaire at all. I thought it was a good film, but it definitely wasn't a best picture winner to me, though to be honest 2008 was a weak year Oscar type films, especially compared to 2007.

1. Return of the King
2. Million Dollar Baby
3. The Departed
4. Gladiator
5. Crash
6. A Beautiful Mind
7. No Country for Old Men
8. The Hurt Locker
9. Chicago
10. Slumdog Millionaire (trash!)

I have some biased reasons but The Departed wins for me. I guess next in line for me would be LOTR

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Easily my favourite film (along with the other two films of the trilogy) and it was great to see the Academy finaly acknowledge epic scale fantasy.
