Best horror movie of the '21st century'...?

:o any movie with paris hilton. Her acting alone makes the movie a horrific experience, even on mute.

ZING!

About HHE "ripping off TCM," TCM is one of Aja's favorite movies and he's likely to have strong homages to it in every movie he does, but it's not really ripping it off.
The imagery may seem familiar to genre fans from TCM, but it's based on a family of cannibals that actually existed centuries before TCM, or even the events that TCM is based upon.
I also thought the script was fantastic, I cared as much about that family as I ever have about any ensamble in a horror film. I could actually picture my own family members interacting when I was watching the Carters during the first 45 minutes of this film, their chemistry and their dialogue was that believeable.

What I loved about The Descent is how multi-dimensional it was(which I talked about in previous posts), if they'd done nothing but the subtle suspense thriller it was during the first half I think it would've weakened the film immensely.
As it is, it worked on so many different levels. It was brutal, yet still subtle, psychological, contained a strong morality tale element...

The Descent is my favorite horror film of all time, and Aja's Hills(significantly better than Haute Tension, which I also loved)isn't far off.

I've seen plenty of great horror film since 2000, those being two of the best.

Wholey smokes man fav's of all time?

They aresolid flicks, but favorites wow, not saying its dumb, cause I like both

I though Aja was direciting the sequel and someone else directed the first one? or is it the other way around

Other way around, Aja directed the remake, and the sequel(which was offered to Aja but he declined) is being directed by a newcomber named Martin Weisz.

HHE was good too. Didn't quite like it at first but it grew on me....

In terms of creepiness? The Ring. The sequel could have been a LOT better, though. I haven't seen the Japanese version, so I can't say which one I like better.

I absolutely implore you all to watch the original JAPANESE version of Dark Water. The US version is okay, good acting, not very scary. The Japanese one starts off creepy and escalates until it's genuinely frightening at the climax.

I didn't care for the Japanese DW at all.

I thought the American version was a bit tedious too, though much better acted with a more effective wrap up.

Weren't there 2 Dark Waters (U.S.)?

One theatrical movie with Jennifer Connelly and one TV movie with Demi Moore?

No, Demi was in a paranormal thriller called Half Light (annoyingly creating confusion with the awesome Athlete song).

^.Funny, i just watched that yesterday. Not a horror, not bad.

I though it was a well done little movie, with much better character development than Ringu. It had nearly no originality, though, and it pales in the horror department when compared to the other three asian movies, namely Ringu, Ju-on and the eye. These were done to scare, while Dark water felt more like a family oriented horror movie. Which isn't a bad thing per see, mind you.

It was still a very good little movie, one of the only other asian ghost movie to not just feel like a needless shallow copy of the ring.

I recommended avoiding most of the other asian horror movies, though. Maybe if people go back in time they might find some interesting gems (like the original Godzilla, or Matango or Onibaba) but the recent horror asian boom hasn't done much aside from those mentionned.

I'd like to put the host in there, since it's even better than all of the movies above mentionned, imo, but I really can't, since it's main goal never really is to scare. It's more of a sci-fi movie than an horror one.

I haven't seen Tales of two sisters, though, which I heard was pretty good. But i've been so burned by most ghost movies these last few years (heck, I was tired of the asian ghost craze 5 years ago, let alone today) that I haven't had the courage to watch it yet. I did tried recently to give Kairo a chance again, and was finally able to watch the whole movie (they made a remake named Pulse out of it recently) and good lord, it really was as bad as I remembered. Horror movie my ass!

Tale of Two Sisters....well, I don't want to give much away, so I'll just say this. It isn't truly a ghost story, so much a psychological tragedy. Very good...confusing at times, and it could've been polished here and there, but still very good.

I think Dark Water Us is one of the classiest horror films in the last 10 years or so, and is the closest thing to a hitchcok like thriller we have had in a while

Is it the best?? I dunno, but I have no problem putting it in the same league as Descent, HHE, DotD, Slither, and co

Also Silent Hill I enjoyed alot, probably not the best, but I think last year was a very solid year for horror movies in hindsight
