What do you think are the best horror films? Or what are your favorites?

My top 5 would be:

1. The Thing-There's like no part of this movie that doesn't freak me out!:wow:

2. Nightmare on Elm Street-That scene where Tina gets killed by Freddy still sends chills done my spine!

3. The Descent-I was so surprised how good this was: the first scare to the last was excellent. The claustophoic atmosphere still makes me uncomfortable.

4. The Sixth Sense-The most disturbing images mixed with a brilliant story=classic horror!

5. 1408-Also surprised by good this was. Not outright horrifying, but enough scares and twists to keep you on the edge of your seat.:woot:

Scariest....

REC and SIGNS. Both films ****ed me up. Signs for the most part.....Aliens scare me. :(

The Blair Witch Project. the kids running and talking in the background.. silent theater.. yeah, that was good stuff

Scariest (Nobody laugh)

The Blair Witch Project: I still can't watch it by myself.

The Exorcist: Subliminal scares are my number one thing. The scene where the Mother comes home and goes through the house still scares me half to death.

No others truly frighten me, but all of my favorite movies are Horror.

Favorite Slasher Film: Friday the 13th (1980)
Favorite Ghost Film: Poltergeist
Favorite Haunted House: The Amityville Horror (Original)

It would take me hours to list every horrnor movie I love.

'The Descent' continues to scare the everloving ---- outta me.

I would have to say the last movie to frighten me would be The Ring (American Version). I didn't turn my back on televisions for a while.

Alien. It's the best horror movie ever. IMO, it's the only horror movie to deserve an Oscar.

when i was a kid i rarely watched horror films and when i do they freaked me out but now horror films doesnt scare me at all, the ones that scared me was
Signs- just the part when they showed the alien from brazil, omg i couldnt sleep for days
Scream- just the mask, as a kid whenever i was alone at home at night OMG i never want to hear the phone ring
The Ring- yea that part when they open the closet made me never go and change my cloths for months

I thought The Orphanage was insanely freaky. I was, like, clenched into the foetal position for the entire running time.:csad:

Also, Jaws has had a serious impact on my life and led to a considerable fear of the ocean...

Plus, Dawn of the Dead'78, Evil Dead 1-3, The Devil's Rejects and the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre just plain 'ol rock.

i think the only horror movies to truly frighten me was the original texas chainsaw massacre and the brood.

Oh, I forgot The Mist! I had to take a walk to clear my head after that one.

I have yet to see a horror movie that scared me.

The only thing that has ever really freaked me out or stuck with me, is this scene from The Shining -

I first saw it when I was in elementary school. People just staring blankly is one of the only things that freaks me out. (Though it's used pretty poorly in a lot of movies now-a-days)

The Grudge 1,2,3, The Ring 1&2 aswell. They gaved me chills.

I love A Nightmare On Elm Street, but it's more likely entertaining for me.

*The Ring

*The Others

*Poltergeist 1 & 2

*1408

*Haunting in Conneticut

Scariest Horror Movies You've Ever Seen

As younger:
Hellraiser
The Blair Witch Project

Now:
The Descent
Martyrs

1408 is a great one. I love the Nightmare in elm street series and the first two halloweens (not the remakes), funny thing is on one of the NOES (new nightmare) I was watching the movie (I was 14 at the time and the message on the screen was written out "ANSWER THE PHONE" and as soon as I read that my own phone rang and scared the **** out of me. Everytime I see it now I have to laugh.

28 Days Later had its moments. The Blair Witch Project and [REC] also come to mind.

Merge FTW.:yay:
Nah. Yours can be like... the Remake Horror Thread. Because that was most of the pictures you posted at first were.

But really. Scariest horror movie? Well... watching Blair Witch Project at night in a creaky house wasn't the most pleasant experience in my life. :hehe:

The Descent had such great jumps in them, it even got me once when I knew it was coming. That made me look like an idiot in front of my friends :hehe:

Also. Head Trauma was just all around creepy and freaked the **** outta me.

The Shining & The Exorcist still scare the **** out of me like nothing else.

What Lies Beneath << under appreciated and underrated.

Evil Dead series
Phantasm series
Poltergeist
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
