World Best Lex

Where's the poll? 'Cos I could say Alexander the Great. :oldrazz:

Clancy Brown

LOL, if you actually saw Clancy Brown try to play Lex Luthor, you'd change your mind.

He does a great voice for Lex Luthor. To say he IS the best Lex is an insult to the animators.

It's very hard to say who the best Lex was. They've al been superb.

Ultimately I think Gene Hackman was the best. He went up against the best Superman (Reeve) and was a believeable match for him. He did some comedy scenes, sure, but when he turned nasty, he was chilling. And you could certainly believe he was a criminal genius.

Gene Hackman is the best pre-crisis Luthor.
John Shea is the best post-crisis Luthor.

Shea was great, he was incredibly suave yet evil at the same time. He almost defeated Superman by sheer charisma.

Not really much like any comic version of Lex, really.

Either Hackman or Spacey.

Rosenbaum's Lex is turning into too much of a drama queen nowadays for my liking. Damn Lana.

I voted John Shea but it's a tie between J.Shea and M.Rosenbaum. Both are good ; J.Shea gave the tone immediately and throughout the first season of L&C, he was really really mean. M.. Rosenbaum was sweet and nice at the beginning and turned into a extraordinary character. I love both extremely.
(Should I mention that they can be topped by the one and only Clancy Brown ?)

Thats nearly sig worth lol

TAS Lex is my favorite, but Live action I like Spacey the best well Spacey towards the end of SR during the beatdown scene especially

Tough but it's definitely between Shea and Rosenbaum. Shea actually got the best lex material to work wiht in scripts so he edged it for me.

Hackman I suppose. Although Shea was pretty good as well.

Rosenbaum though I'm absolutely sick of this cock teasing. Go all out Lex already.

Of course, Kevin Spacey.
If my signature doesn't change, you will understand

"Kevin Spacey can easily act menacing and amusing and good and evil and mysterious and calculative and winner and loser and hater and lover and friendly and dangerous... ALL AT ONCE!!!!!! "

Good point. I liked Spacey. However, I assume that he's playing pre-crisis Luthor so IMO, Gene Hackman, kicked his ass.

Yeah, I agree that Spacey basically played the Pre-Crisis Lex in SR. A Pre-Crisis Lex Luthor with shades of the Post-Crisis version, but still a Pre-Crisis Luthor nevertheless. :)

Kevin Spacey is a great Lex and he actually went bald for the role, not like stupid Gene Hackman.

The Lex from Lois and Clark was great too. the guy from Superboy in the old tv show wasn't bad either, but the second guy that played him, after the first guy left, and they said he had plastic surgery to explain the difference in appearance.:yay:

The Hackman.

The Hackman.

No question. Some dislike the way Hackman's Luthor engaged in comedy antics with Otis, but when he became serious, he was chilling. "No - by causing the deaths of innocent people." No other Lex has been as convincingly genius, or as sinister. How about the way he coldly lets Miss Teschmacher know her mother is going to die? Just looks at his watch and shakes his head.

Admittedly, Lex became a lot broader in Superman II, but naturally he became less of a threat when three evil Kryptonians arrived. Even in Superman IV, Hackman gives a performance deserving of another, much better movie.

He's the perfect comicbook villain, really; convincingly evil and admirably sly, but so charismatic and entertaining you want to see him return. Forget all the 'post Crisis/pre-Crisis stuff', and whether he's dark or serious as you want him to be, Hackman's Lex is simply a superb cinematic villain and a worthy foe for the greatest Superman of all.

Rosenbaum and Clancy Brown are tops.

Amen!

And may I add Hackman's Luthor, would never ever stoop so low as to sleep with an old dying woman to recover his position.

Michael Rosenbaum, for six years, had done a great job as a young Lex Luthor, and he slowly becomes more and more evil, and this being his last season on Smallville, I predict for that truly evil LL to come out and play, as like Kevin Spacey's version in Superman Returns.

I've never liked any of the movies Lexs. Rosenbaum has gotten pretty close to being to being a fave. But Clancy Brown is Lex to me.
