What movie do you think has the best effects? I am starting this cause I just got done watching 2001:ASO and I am very amazed by that films effects. What do you think?

We talking CGI or prosthetics or Pyro effects here?

I think Aliens has a great mix of miniature and great prosthetics effects :D

without a doubt, the T-Rex from JP1. When I first saw that, I just didnt know how they did it, being the first CGI heavy movie. The rex stands up today - even more so than the sequels.

We're talking about all special effects.
Fritz Lang's Metropolis, I suggest you guys watch some of it if you haven't, that movie has the best effects for its time 1920s they still hold up and were design very geniusly.

King-Kong and Gollum were the best CGI-characters ever done for me

Definately Jurassic Park. Everything is flawless- and most of all, looks real. King Kong and Gollum might be more recent, but not for a second did I buy them as actually being there. You just see them and go, Oh, CGI is getting better.

When the fact is 10 years earliar CGI/Animatronic effects were already perfected in Jurassic Park.

I like alot of Model work and stuff, ever seen Star Trek: TMP? Those have great effects, 2001:ASO has great effects.

CGI is less expensive and can look better it just doesn't alot of times.

for their time: Golem and faust and metropolis. Also Jason and the argonaughts, i mean look at the skeletons WOW

Yeah, I agree. While the effects of King Kong and Gollum were well done, they just don't look realy. I guess they look cool, but I could always thell they were essentially expensive cartoon characters.

CGI is much better when it's used tastefully with practical effects. The CGI should be enhancing the practical effects, rather than the opposite. Like in the Star Wars prequels. Nearly everything is CGI, with a few practical effects thrown in. It doesn't look cool to me really.

As everyone has mentioned, Jurassic Park is where it's at.

Jurassic Park as many have said.
I also like the gore used in Night of the Living Dead(original). Very simplistic but believable.

I like Return of The Jedi's effects best of the Star Wars Saga. Overall Jurassic Park and Star Trek: First Contact and Nemisis were pretty cool.

The Abyss, was really the first step into CGI.
Terminator 2
Jurassic Park
Hulk (I don't care what anybody says, the Hulk looked 100% real)
Terminator 3 has some surprisingly good effects.
LOTR trilogy
King Kong (Kong was amazing)
Batman Begins (the CGI is completely unnoticable)
Superman Returns (The only problem was CGI being needlessly used)
POTC2 (Davey Jones was great)

Im always amazed at how well Blade Runner has stood the test of time.

Isnt there suppose to be a new extended release of it this year?

Jurassic Park - best CGI ever.

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow had some great eye candy CGI in it.

But as for the best, Jurassic Park could be just that. Spielberg pwns in this department.
