Best Movie Effects?

Last I heard about JP4 the dinosaurs talked. So, no not really hyped for it.

Jurrasic Park's CGI isn't as astounding as everyone makes it out to be. For its time, it was obviously the top thing, but the effects have gotten better. The driving force behind JP's greatness seems to be nostalgia/ the memory of the animatronics.

There, I said it. Piss off. :cmad:

some of the best CG that I've ever seen and visual effects? Hard Target... and Half Past Dead... the classic Segal film

....Uh.. Leave..

Jesus20thcentury

Had some amazing effects. The way he leaped in the air and punched holes through the robots. I thought I was...there.
Just amazing.

actually it wasn't called that. But it was some movie with jesus walking around in an apocolypto future brooding, and killing robots.

I disgust you how?
is it cause I'm the only memember of JAL's little club?

I'll agree with many and say Jurassic Park. Its one of the few movies where the effects still looking amazing after over ten years!

Starship Troopers to me still holds up as an incredible mixture of traditional and computer effects, though it's nearly 10 years old.

The effects were the only good part of that movie.

Remember: "I'm going to be a fighter pilot."
D. Richards sucks.

Yeah, I agree. While the effects of King Kong and Gollum were well done, they just don't look realy. I guess they look cool, but I could always thell they were essentially expensive cartoon characters.

CGI is much better when it's used tastefully with practical effects. The CGI should be enhancing the practical effects, rather than the opposite. Like in the Star Wars prequels. Nearly everything is CGI, with a few practical effects thrown in. It doesn't look cool to me really.

As everyone has mentioned, Jurassic Park is where it's at.

There's no digital character nearly as emotive as Kong, the dinosaurs in JP basically just have to growl and snarl, Kong goes through every emotion, this applies to Gollum too.

i think Jurassic Park was revolutionary for it's time and there weren't any movies that could match it's effects for a while but movies have come to the point where effects like Jurassic Park's are getting pretty easy. i judge special effects on if i can tell how they did it or not. example...when i first saw Jurassic Park i didn't know how they brought the T-Rex to life besides certain shots of the animatronic. if you asked me what was the best effects movie back in the mid 90's i certainly would've said Jurassic Park. the last movie that made me wonder "how the hell did they do that?" was Pirates 2 with Davey Jones. i saw the first trailer and thought to myself "wow, they seamlessly incorporated cgi testicles onto a dude wearing a costume!"

then i heard that Davey Jones was 100% cg and i lost my mind. if PotC2 were shown back in 93 (the year JP came out)...i'm sure even the best special effects artists would've been floored.

JP had the very best in special effects -- for its time. Now, Stan Winston's animatronic shots will always hold up because they used real props. But take a closer look at the toonsaurs and you'll see visible comping in the stampede shots, floaty physics on the raptors (the kitchen scene most notably) and texture mapping that PS3 or Nvidia's new 8800 card could produce and juggle plates.

None-the-less, a kickass movie.

Personally, King Kong didn't convince me in every shot, but Gollum got progressively better from TT to RotK, and I forgot as the film went on that I was watching an animated character.

And jeez, kids, quit the Spielberg orgy. He was on the set of Schindler's List while most of your beloved effects were being produced by brilliant animators over at ILM. If you're gonna give love to a film, then at least give credit to the right people.

-- END!

Kong and Supes from Superman Returns come to mind.

I also have to list the Enterprise-E in Star Trek: First Contact.

I see it and still am amazed by how good it and the other starships look. :wow:

Tron, obviously.

Seriously, the Starfleet/Borg battale in ST:FC, Doc Ock in SM-2, the Matrix (but only the first one), Jurassic Park...all I can think of for now.

King Kong,Jurrasic park,LOTR's off the top of m head

Revenge of the Sith. It was a ****ing crime it not only didn't win for Oscar for best visual effects last year, but that it wasn't even nominated.

Narnia? Gimme a break.

Sith was way too artificial for my taste. I'm not trying to hate on the series or anything but they might as well just made the movie entirely cgi without bothering with actors.
