Like the thread title says, who was the best big screen Gobby?

It is hard to believe, but in five Spider-Man movies, three of them have featured the Green Goblin in one form or another (yes, Franco's counts, the "New Goblin" shtick was to sell toys and he is never called that in the movie).

Please make sure that you have seen TASM2 before you vote. Part of being a hero is making a choice. Now, choose!

Im resisting the temptation to vote before seeing the film.

Dane would have to be pretty bad to lose this one for me.

Dafoe has a better story (and closer to the comics), but DeHaan's has a superior look IMO and his story (while different to the source material) is great too.
Both of them are incredible actors, but my vote goes to DeHaan's.

Dafoe. In spite of the goofy costume he nailed the persona, and the whole Norman/Goblin split personality. He had great scenes both as Norman and Goblin. You could believe his father/son relationship with Franco, and the kind of paternal thing he had going on with Peter.

Franco comes in second. He was one of the highlights of Spider-Man 3, and he played a great conflicted Harry.

DeHaan's Goblin was too brief, one note, and practically a cameo.

Dafoe Dafoe Dafoe all the way.

Franco is great.

Dane's sucked.

In terms of acting, Dane.
Screentime, Dafoe.
Costume, Dane.
Theme song, Dafoe/Franco. (they had the same, didn't they?)

It's like, if you could give Dane Dafoe's screen time and theme song, we would have the perfect Goblin, imo.

It's like 50/50 with Dane and Dafoe.

I voted for Dafoe, because despite the goofy costume, he nailed the vindictiveness and crazed stalkerish personality he has in relation to Peter Parker. He is just nasty, but like the Stan Lee version, at least mildly sympathetic, though not to the point of being redeemable (like say, Curt Connors should have been).

But I will give one nod to Franco, besides playing the great conflicted Harry, he also was the one who played the most subtle mind games with Peter Parker like it was a DeMatthis GG storyline. As that is a big part of the character in the comics, he got the cruelest in many ways considering DeHaan's [blackout]killing Gwen seemed accidental on even his part.[/blackout]

It is not like I do not think Dafoe could not be topped, but they really gave him and Franco both an easy pass with the mishandling of the character in the newest movie.

It's an unfair poll, it should be between Franco and Dehann or when the time comes Cooper and Dafoe.

I'll always go for Dafoe as I like Norman better.
Dehann was great, the design was good and for the small screen time he was scary, the facial expressions were good.

Franco's Goblin was awful. The design did not remotly look like a goblin. Say what you like about the costume in SM1 but it did resemble a goblin. As a goblin he was less menacing than Peter's land lord. Trying to get to Peter with a break up with MJ? He's actually doing him a favour :funny:. Also, his motivatons were flawed. Harry wants to avenge a father who murdered and tried to murder inncocents? All Dehann wanted was a blood donation.

There was no point for Harry to look like a goblin. He wanted revenge.
That was a much stronger motivation to kill Spider-Man than hating him for not getting his blood - even after Harry got the spider venom which appearently had the same effect...

So, at least Harry in SM3 had a motivation to do what he did.

haven't seen the new movie yet, but appearance-wise, I NEVER liked the LOOK of the Goblin in the films, with his perpetually open mouth... the rest of his look never really grabbed me, though I think his glider is one bad-ass looking ride/weapon...

I am sorry, but this poll is perfectly fair. They all played a version of the Green Goblin and since Webb and company saw it fit enough to make Harry [blackout]be the one who killed Gwen Stacy[/blackout] and be the first Green Goblin, then he can be evaluated as such.

Besides, I genuinely believe that Norman Osborn won't be the Green Goblin in TASM universe, because of the same reason DeHaan's only became the Goblin for 2 minutes: it's redundant. The Green Goblin was a major part in 2/3 of Raimi's trilogy, and here we are only in TASM's second film and he's back in some form or another. Much like refusing to put "with great power..." in TASM1, making it Harry who does the deed and making him kind of a jerk-off even pre-transformation is all out of reaction to doing something different from the Raimi trilogy. Sony, and especially their merchandising partners, will not want another GG movie in TASM3. Expect to see Harry back on the glider for Sinister Six and not before..

With all that said, if you want to compare Franco and DeHaan, I still prefer Franco. Besides being the more comic book accurate version of Harry Osborn, he plays some nasty mind-games with Peter. Like in the comics when he became Peter's neighbor one floor down, and started stalking MJ "as a friend" just to toy with him, Franco's Harry (through poor writing methods, granted) convinces Peter that he is having an affair with MJ. That is actually more of a knife-twist than anything DeHaan or Dafoe did, as [blackout]Gwen's death[/blackout] was mostly accidental.

As for looks, I actually liked his sky-board. The snowboard costume, meh. But I'm starting to realize that Goblin just doesn't visually translate to live-action. I didn't think DeHaan's meth addict teeth were any better.

As for motivation, again "you killed my father" was Harry's motivation originally int the comic books. And in that Harry's defense, the evidence looked pretty damning. Now compare that to DeHaan's Harry who...was begging for a blood transfusion because he was dying? He wasn't going to die for 35-40 years. His dad made it past 60. Harry, who is about 18 in the movie, had a little time to actually work on the cure. Instead, he kind of behaved like an idiot.

I'm the first to prefer James Franco
Yeah, he had the best Goblin story

Then Dafoe's Green Goblin

Deehan has an ok part, but he's not fun

Dafoe, easily.

Then Franco.

Idk wtf Dehaan's thingy is supposed to be, but a Goblin it is not.

Of the Harry Goblins I preferred Dehaan, but Dafoe as Norman tops them both easily IMO.

Looks goblin-y to me.

If only they had used Dane's design on Dafoe, we would have had the perfect Goblin.

Seems they are trying to make him look like Heath Ledger's Joker.

Willem Dafoe looks like Goblin with NO makeup. My vote goes to Dafoe.

(Btw, I liked the costume, as cheesy as it is.)

Dafoe. Because even though the helmet was probably the wrong way to go, they at least had the forethought to put the Green Goblin face on it. Dane Dehaan looks like Evil Ed from Fright Night crossed with Beavis.

For now I'll go with Dafoe's Goblin. But I really liked how DeHaan looked as the Goblin and I think they can do some pretty cool stuff with him in the future.
