I've gotten more into reading lately, but I haven't done any extensive nonfiction reading. What nonfiction books have you read in your lifes that have given you more insight than others? I really don't have much of a knowledge of nonfiction literature. I'm talking along the lines of Sigmund Freud, Carl Gustav Jung, Friedrich Nietzche, philosophers, poets, etc.

Any recommendations?

Man's Search For Meaning by Victor Frankl was really good.

The Bible.

no

I read part of genises and then just stopped about 25 pages in. Those works have detailed lessons to teach that I have heard summarized, but overall the whole thing just doesn't appeal to me. I want something more modern. Like, anything written after 1600 or so.

Pages?

The Bible has a lot of pages.

over 1600... ugh :closes eyes: a.d.

Doesn't a.d. have a new name now that makes it less religious?

CE - Common Era.

Collapse. About how societies have failed.
Dreams From My Father. Barack Obama's book.
Assata. Assata Shakur's book.

The Bible is not nonfiction.

It doesn't sit in the non-fiction section of the library without reason.

Isn't it found in the Religion and Philosophy section?:o

War Lord, a lot of the stories in there are completely debatable, but DON'T start a bible debate in this thread. Make your own thread for that, if you have no other books to add than "the bible," then kindly **** off.

I'm not the one who started the debate. Abbadon did.

Enough, don't idle on the bible. It's too well known, I want to hear about things I may not know about.

wow................ i thought you were a radical atheist, jonty?

The Power of Myth
The Inner Reaches of Outer Space
Thou Art That

Definitely read:

People Patterns - Stephen Montgomery
Steps to an Ecology of Mind - Gregory Bateson
An Experiment with Time - J.W. Dunne
The Wilderness of Dreams - Kelly Bulkeley
Psychological Types - Carl Jung
The Origin of Illness - Norberto Keppe
Soul, Psyche, Brain - Kelly Bulkeley (editor)

But it is more important that you understand persons with psychologies different from your own. As you read these choice works, you should also read the Bible as War Lord suggested, to gain understanding of completely different worldviews.

The Meditations - Marcus Aurelius
The Consolation of Philosophy - Boethius
The Histories - Herodotus
The Art of War - Sun-Tzu
The Book of Five Rings - Miyamoto Musashi
Henry Gray's Anatomy of the Human Body

Last Chance to See - Douglas Adams
