  • Dock Ock

Venom, though not the arch enemy, is still dangerous in his own right. The symbiote knows all of Parker's secrets in a way no other villain can. It is very personal in Spider-man life.

Although Venom is my favorite villain, this guy gets my vote.

1-I'd say Norman is privvy to a LOT of Spidey's secrets & has a longer standing in that regard.
2-what has Venom done with that knowledge? Nothing. Spooked MJ, roughed up Black Cat, helped Aunt May fold her laundry. The Goblin was the first villain-to my knowledge-to ever invade ANY hero's personal life, making Venom's intrusions look weak by comparison.

GO OCK! I swear he was the first villain to EVER whoop someone's arse so quickly and at the beginning of a series.

This wasn't Spidey's first defeat, as so many claim; it was his first time getting thoroughly OWNED.
And, might I add, Ock was able to do this without any trickery or sneaking up on him.

Oh yh, tht was Vulture

When did Vulture ever manage to sneak up on him? I remember during the whole "everybody knows who I am" debacle, Vulture was hired to go after him by the government, & he hung back b/c he didn't want Parker to sense his presence & reverse the ambush.

He did a long time ago, back when Ditko was the artist. He snuck up on Spidey, knocked him out and dropped him into a water tower to drown.

Didn't say it made him the arch rival, it may not be useful for him, but it's just a personal connection to Parker that is higher than most villains, I would say.

I forgot all about that.
How'd Toomes manage to sneak up on him? Or were his reflexes not as sharp in his rookie year?

He essentially stole Spidey's underwear. That's not the kind of connection he has to Norm & Otto; both of these men are, in many ways, who Peter Parker could have been & in many ways they're who he aspires to be. Take away the crime, the evil, the insanity-whatever you wanna call it. Peter Parker would love to be Norman Osborn; a self-made man who turned his love of science into a billion-dollar empire. And he'd be just as happy leaving his mark on the world of science, as Otto Octavius has done. He couldn't give a rat's ass about being an effective journalist-which Eddie Brock wasn't.
My son asked if Brock chose the name "Venom" b/c the suit's actually poisoning him. I found that an interesting take.

I dont have that issue so I dont remember. I'm thinking that he actually wasnt paying attention to his Spider-Sense. Whoops.

You of all people should know that there is more to it than that. The black suit knew everything about Parker. More than any villain ever, except maybe one that could mind-read. It shared all his emotions, and thoughts. Maybe not the most important factor, but you can't deny it was one of the deepest connections one could undergo with.

Curt Conners is a Scientist also, and a failure at that, he could also mirror Parker's motivations too, he work for the better good for crying out loud. That doesn't, however make him the one of the top three.

Venom.

Followed by Goblin and then,Ock.

It was a parasite that acted like a jilted lover. It's just that Brock is such a ludicrous character. And he got so overused in the 90's that by 2000 I was just sick of him. I actually like him more in the movie than in comics.

It seems that you may not understand my meaning; I think the Green Goblin is the arch enemy of Spider-man. Venom is a character that I like, but is not the arch enemy. That being said, the Black suit, not Brock, was the closest a villain could get to Parker, without someone reading his mind. That doesn't mean he is the best, or the most popular.

I've always thought that Norman Osborne was Peter Parker's arch enemy. Doc Ock is Spider-Man's arch enemy.

:ff: :ff: :ff:

I also hate that Venom seemed to bring out the worst in Peter. Cowardice, first of all. Spidey has taken on far more threatening villains & never once backed down from any of them, but he was always trying to run & hide from Venom. And then making deals with him? Yeah, "With great power comes great responsibility" sounds a lot like "Agree to let a murderous psychopath roam free" & "Repeatedly ally myself with said psychopath."

Spidey thought Vulture didn't see him and started taking photos of him. Vulture however spotted him and flew behind him and was just quick enough to attack Spidey before he could react from his spidey sense. It was technically his first defeat, but Dock Ock was the first to fight Spidey and win so quick, with no upper hand or advantage.

When it comes to Peter being scared of Venom I think that all you have to do is just look at him. Venom,at least when drawn by Mcfarlene,is one creepy and scary looking creature! He looks like he came right out of a horror film. I'd say he looks a lot more monsterous than any of Spidey's other foes. You also have to take into consideration that Venom,or the symbiote, actually tried to take over Peter and got deep inside his mind. This "creature" is strange and very frightening. I'm sure the memory of this "alien" thing, and what it tried to do, continues to haunt Peter Parker. Venom, knowing all about Spidey and his deepest fears,is a very scary thing.
And I agree what you're saying about the team ups,but I look at it more from Venom's POV. He HATES Spider-man. Venom despises everything Spider-man represents. I don't care if it's Carnage or whomever, but why in God's name would Venom even consider teaming up with his most hated rival?
Another example of the writers screwing up the character. Venom should never be an anti-hero. He is a creature of evil.

Green Goblin is always my favorite.

Then Venom, then Doc Ock. I love them all however.

Do y'all realize that Marvel has tried to replace all three of these guys?

What's up with that? I've never seen a replacement Magneto. Is there a new Joker or Lex lurking around somewhere?
