It's so MTV-ised now that being called a "punk" isn't a bad thing any more. It get's me really mad that people know Green Day but not

-Stiff Little Fingers
-New York Dolls
-Velvet Underground
-Damned
-Buzzc0cks
-Dead Kennedys
-UK Subs
and so many more
I don't want to be called a "punk" and I find it insulting to me musical integrity to be called one. It just another corporate prison made by big record companies to sell records. Listen my friends, if your a true punk...why do you label yourself as one. Labels are for the corporate ****es. AFI isn't punk and never will be. They are just more of the corporate ****e punks that are the rage at record companies. Go inject some herion and die please-good charlotte, sum-41, AFI, Simple Plan, Blink182, all american rejects....ect.....ect.....ect. Thanks for your time and **** off

Rancid, Bad Religion and NOFX are the only punk bands in that poll and even they are starting to go pop.

Punk is not a sound, it's a statement.

Amen.

Most of the bands in this poll aren't even punk at all. They're pop or alt rock trying to pass themselves off as punk. I like all of the bands listed but it disgusts me that people don't know the difference between these bands and real punk.

My favorite Punk bands: Blowtorch Betty and Butt Trumpet.

Okay... well....ummm......they are......shut up. Just love the music. I have NO problem with a band like Rancid. Good Charlotte are sell-outs. I dont see SUM-41 as sellouts because they never preached against big record companies. But GC were all anti-sellout but now they play for adoring teeny boppers. I'm just trying to say that punk has lost it's way. Man.....you like ...Green Day more than Dead kennedys and the Damned.....wow....oh well....i can't say i hate Greenday. But they did start this crap. Punk is dead IMO. I doubt any of you agree with me.

do you consider punk a type of music, or a "statement"?

It's both. I don't like genres...i prefer to hear things without hating them because of a name.

Good Charlotte :o

Actually it's Green Day but meh

I'm partial to The Hives myself, so "other".

They aren'te ven !!!!ing punk, they're pop, just because they sell their !!!! at Hot Topic doesn't make them punk rock at all.
That's a band I can't stand. I mean, them and a Simple Plan, calling themselves punk and being trendy when that's the very antithesis of what punk rock is.
!!!!ers. The whole lot of them.

Of any of those listed, only Rancid is even punk. The rest is just mainstream alternitive rock. I voted other, because in my opinion, there hasn't been a good punk band since the eighties. I'd say the closest thing to a good punk band these days (excluding the greats that are still around like The Damned) are some of the Garage Rock bands like White Stripes and The Hives.

Oh... I did forget two insanely good punk bands. Flogging Molly and The Dropkick Murphys.

I agree... to an extent.
I think blink-182 qualifies as punk simply because of their earlier work. With their self-titled album and their "new direction" they certainly don't have that punk element anymore, but they were punk, and that's why I think they deserve consideration. And my vote.

Their not a Punk Band!!!

They are. They are the punk that came out of bands like The Velvet Underground and The Clash. They can be called Garage Rock but you can't say they aren't connected to punk rock.

It's lost on you?
A Simple Plan and Good Charlotte could, as PLAS said a while ago in some other thread, merge into A Simple Charlotte or A Good Plan and no one would notice. They aren't anything special and they appeal to more mainstream tastes.
While the latter could be applied to blink-182, the fact that they were, at one point, the embodiment of everything punk still has to stand for something, especially when compared to those other bands.

Dude.
They have Cheshire Cat, Buddha, and Dude Ranch.
That's 3 albums.
Then they shifted into more mainstream with Enema of the State, and now they've matured and done some more mellow stuff with the self-titled disc.

Those mostly suck
Leftover Crack isn't bad
Jello Biafra still owns you all
I like old punk better
Before it died
Oh Against Me! is really good

Wow someboy else around here knows Left Over Crack? Damn. Damn skipy Biafra owns all. Punk was a part of the seventies and eighties. People are too complient these days to be punks. It's stupid to think of these bands as punk since punk was a reaction to corporate rock and disco... all of those bands ARE corporate rock and played at dance parties along with YMCA. You can't say that the meaning behind punk has changed... that would be like calling George H. Bush a hippy because the hippy movement has become about bringing on nuclear holocaust in the nineties.
