That's right. Let's go. This one will need some particular explaining. Based on interest in original and classic punk, I wanted to make a poll based on the revivalist punk of the 1990s that admittedly mainstreamed the genre. For that reason I picked the originators of this movement in the late '80s and early '90s and am avoiding the suburban "punk" at the end of the century like Blink-182 and Sum 41. So sorry to Blink fans and fans of that sound.

I also added The Killers, simply because this electronic post-punk, New Wave, alternative-ish band's lead singer, Brandon Flowers, has repeatedly spoken of his disdain for these "punk revival" bands of the '90s, Green Day especially--and considers himself closer to the ideals of original punk. So I decided to include them (heh). Anyway, onto the list!

Green Day, out of sentimental value. Why are the Killers on this list?

Might wanna read the first post.

Green Day, by a mile. Can't really stand any of the others.:o

at their best green day was mediocre, and that was a LONG time ago...generally they're garbage. offspring arent even worth considering. bad religion had some good stuff. rancid's out come the wolves album is good stuff too. killers are just garbage. i guess i'll go with bad religion? i dont know, im not comfortable with my options, ha ha.

Fair enough. I'm a big Green Day fan myself. Well I like most of their stuff, anyway. Still, nostalgically love Dookie and personally I find even though they've gone away from their original sound, they still found a creative and strong way to stay relevant through politics in American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, as well as popular without "selling out." But that's just my take. I know most people either like or hate Green Day. I'm one of those rare few who love 'em.

And I guess I'll quit adding pictures because at least one (or all) were not appropriate to use. I won't use pictures in the future, then.

*rereads* Oh hey, look at that.

I guess I can kind of see how they'd fit, but mostly that's just some brat trash-talking the competition. Don't get me wrong, I like some of the Killers' songs, but I don't really see them as anything like the singer apparently does. Those bands came from a different part of punk rock than the Killers (not that I call them punk themselves). They follow more of the Ramones/Rezillos/Stiff Little Fingers/Husker Du side of punk, while the Killers take more influence from the Velvet Underground/Television/Cure side (hell, they even did a song with Lou Reed).

I've yet to hear anything from Green Day, Offspring and The Killers that I liked. I've not heard anything from Bad Religion yet.

So I won't vote.

So, not a fan of Kerplunk! or Dookie, nor anything from their new sound with American Idiot or 21st Century Breakdown (albeit the first single off this album is one of the weakest). :(

Fair enough, I know some love and some hate Green Day, but their earliest stuff I still have such nostalgia for. Admittedly Insomniac-Warning were weaker hit-and-miss records.

I like The Offspring OK, but I never was a huge fan. I think The Killers began strong with Hot Fuss, but they haven't reached that point again, IMO.

The Killers.

i hear good things about Bad Religion from my skater friends. punks not my cup of tea, but when i looked them up on youtube i dug some of their stuff.

Yeah, though I love a lot of their songs, the Killers are pretty out of place on this list.

I guess i'll go with Green Day.

I suppose I should reiterate. The Killers have repeatedly called Green Day not-real-punk, or at least Brandon Flowers has. And when promoting Sam's Town (their worst album, IMO) said those bands were not close to original punk and talked favorably about his punk influences in comparison. He also then said Sam's Town would be one of the great American rock 'n roll albums.

I like Hot Fuss, but I thought that ego was pretty big, so Iput them in this poll.

Green Day's stuff on "Warning" (some of their worst material, IMO) was more punk than anything from The Killers have ever put out.

I don't know. I would call Insomniac their worst album. Warning was forgettable, but it had one of my favorite Green Day songs, Minority. I liked Waiting as well and it had a B-side later released, Ha Ha You're Dead, which is a fun track. I wouldn't call Killers punk, but more post-punk new wave electronic and they have produced some really good stuff, albeit not recently.

Why's that? It was always in my top 3 of GD albums.

Recently, I began to like GD more after their American Idiot album, but I can never really get into them fully. Not that interested in Rancid except for a couple of songs, and Bad Religion can be hit-and-miss. I like the Offspring and the Killers, but admittedly they have their share of bad songs as well.

Green Day. I do like The Offspring though.

Insomniacs not terrible, but I find it as a whole forgettable. It is obvious they just came off their great breakthrough record, which is still the best GD album imo, and they wanted to follow Dookie up. So, they followed it up by trying to sound exactly like Dookie, which came out only like a year or 18 months or something like that earlier. It just felt kind of rushed and bland. I just prefer Dookie, Kerplunk! and Nimrod. Warning has the most bad Green Day, but it also has one of my favorites of their's, so I let it slide a little bit and had a few good other entries. And I am one of "those" people who really like their new stuff and seeing them grow up and branch out with American Idiot and 21st Century (though I know many fans from the '90s dislike their sound evolving). Just my opinion.

But I could easily see why some would rank Insomniac above Nimrod and Warning. Though not some of the others. BTW what are your fav. GD albums and for that matter any of the bands listed?
