Alright so me and some friends were discussing who the best rappers of this generation are and we all got in a big tussle over it haha. Were not including 2Pac or Notorious BIG, or any of those older rappers because there not of this generation. I'm strictly going off of how good their lyrics/rhymes are and how much flow they have. I could give a **** about how popular they are, for instance Lil Wayne is not one of the best rappers of this generation!

For me it would have to be Wiz Khalifa (if you havent heard of him, look him up he is honestly one of the best rappers I've ever heard) His flow and rhymes are crazy!

Or old school Kanye West (graduation album). Dont start bashing me yet, let me explain. I know alot of people have this grudge against Kanye or whatever, and they hear some of this main stream music and think he is garbage. But if you take a look at his music from a different stand point, he actually has great talent and alot of good lyrics. Not to mention really good flow!

What about you guys?

I don't know if they're the best but the only two rappers I really care about are Lupe Fiasco and B.O.B.

BoB:

I just recently started listening to this guy's stuff, he's another rapper who steps outside of the box IMO, I'm pretty sure he's gonna be around for a while.

Kanye West:

Even though he is cocky as all hell, the guy gets his points across, he speaks his mind, I wasn't a big fan of 808's and Heartbreak but the old College Dropout Kanye wasn't anything nice

Lupe Fiasco:

I give Fiasco props for just being different with his style, I think that's the best thing about rappers like that, it helps set them apart from others.

Papoose:

That alphabetical flow that he did a few years back....nuff said. Dude has flow for real.

Chamillionaire:

Chamillionaire hasn't been out in the media as of recent, but the dude has put out loads of mixtapes over the years, if anybody has followed him, they will remember the Mixtape Messiah series that he put out, the first one IMO was the best one since he pretty much dissed Mike Jones, as if anyone likes him anyways. His first mainstream album was pretty good, his second album was ok, pretty big challenge to do a rap album without cursing.

Lil Wayne:

Even though some people may not consider him to be one of the best, I give him credit. Back when Cash Money consisted of Juvenile, B.G., Turk, and Wayne. They were more in the spotlight and Wayne sounded almost similar to them, he stepped outside the box and has pretty much gained alot of recognition.

I like B.O.B like someone mentioned, Lupe, 'Ye

I'm also a fan of Little Brother

Immortal Technique and Vinnie Paz I guess.

This generation (generation y?) has no clear leader in the mainstream rap game.

Em doesnt count right?

Lupe I think has alot of talent but I havent really seen that recently with his LASERS stuff, but I would put him up in the top

Nice to see some love for Chamillionaire. Ridin was catchy but that whole album was fire and he is good. Listen to his verse on the Can't Stop Partyin Remix His version>>>>Weezys

Papoose is good, but dude fell off hard and he keeps the same flow almost every track

If 50 stayed on par with his GRODT days he would lead the list but his skills have slipped so far

Kid Cudi is getting there. I wanna see how his 2nd album is

Lloyd Banks has crazy punchlines, he used to be my favorite but he's kind of slipped. Beamer, Benz, or Bentley was good

and no way Lil Wayne in hell should be up in the best of the generation. He may be popular but he's pretty wack: "Dear Mr. Toilet, I'm the sh**, got these other haters mad cuz my toilet paper thick" "I peek at chu like a Pokemon (Peek at chu=Pikachu) Most of the time he just pronounces words funny so they rhyme and not even like rhyming "four" (fo') with "go". He just these outlandish mispronunciations
I have a love hate thing with him. When I like one of his verses, I LOVE it. But when I dislike it, I HATE it and I mostly hate his verses. Also he's experimenting with other genres turned into this:

But if I had to pick one I'd say Kanye. Yeah his attitude stinks, but he has 2 classic albums and one very good album with great rhymes on each. Good wordplay, good flow. He balances club/pop songs with just regular good songs. So yeah Id say Mr. West deserves it

I like Knockout, can't explain it. i pretty much hate lil wayne's music, preferred his block is hot days. i usually only like 3 of 10 of his songs, if that.

J. Cole. J. COLE. End of thread, seriously, he's that good. If you haven't heard him, download his mixtapes.

Honorable mentions to Kid Cudi, Lupe Fiasco, Wiz, and Wale... But they aren't nearly as good, IMO. Cudi and J. Cole's albums are both supposed to drop on October 26th, too.

I would post some J. Cole songs, but I can't cause of the language. Grown Simba, Can't Cry, Lil' Ghetto N****, Balance, Problems, and Lights Please are some of his best.

J.Cole is good, but he hasnt even dropped an album yet. LEt alone a classic album like College Dropout

Lupe Fiasco For me the Best Rappers of This Generation. Kanye West's first couple albums were ghostwritten

DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince are better than all generations.

Immortal Technique
Buck 65
Hadouken
Tech N9ne

It's funny, I almost forgot about Eminem, he gets alot of props as well. Eminem's style is pretty crazy and his production is just as crazy, I remember when I first heard "My Name Is" I thought that the song was supposed to be some sort of joke, dude was for real lol. Eminem is great. Chamillionaire has always been among the best IMO, not just because I'm from Texas. He always stood out, Slim Thug, Paul Wall, Mike Jones etc all seem to have the same subject matter that never really changes. At least Chamillionaire can talk about it in a different context and can change tempo while he's doing it. Dude has talent.

I'm gonna disagree with you guys and say Lil Wayne is absolutely one of the best.

Big Sean, J.Cole, Childish Gambino, Kanye, Drake, Kid Cudi, Lupe Fiasco, Immortal Technique (does he count?).

I feel like Kanye and Eminem are the definitive 21st century rappers, especially kanye.

Im surprised this thread isn't dedicated to how great Drake and Young Money are.... lol

I really liked drake before he was popular but his style has changed since then. Hes becoming too main stream and his flow is the same in every song, he never switches it up. His new album isnt that good at all

Blasphemy.

Eminem is the best rapper of this generation and I don't care what anyone says. Not only is he the best of this generation, but he's the best rapper ALIVE and the best rapper of ALL TIME. Yes, he's had missteps like any other artist, but when he dies he will be remembered for his impressive body of work (he's a ****ing Oscar winner!!), creativity, insane flow(s), rhyming techniques/metaphors, and overall influence on the rap game. EVERYONE in the game respects him and he constantly has placed rap at the forefront of our pop cultrue. He's one of (if not THE) biggest artists (not just rappers) of the 2000s. Some people love to say that mainstream artists are overrated and and all this ********, but Eminem is one of the few mainstream artists with the talent to back up his popularity.

Some Wikipedia facts:
- Named Best Rapper Ever by VIBE in 2008 (during his hiatus, no less)
- He has had 9 #1 albums (7 solo, 2 with D12)
- 13 #1 worldwide singles
- Named Artist of the Decade by BILLBOARD in 2009
- 2 of his albumbs among the Top 5 highest selling albums of the 2000s
- Has sold over 12.5 million albums in the UK
- The Marshall Mathers LP is the fastest selling solo album in US history
- Won 11 Grammys (including one for Relapse)

Aside from all that, he can murder anyone in a rap battle, he can destroy pretty much any beat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brYY3Dri7xw), and he easily had the best BET cypher (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brYY3Dri7xw). Best of all, he doesn't feel the need to be featured on every song by every artist. When Eminem drops a verse, he does it for a reason and you know he's gonna kill it. Even Relapse (not one the most popular albums by Em) has its merits -- it was an experimentation with theme and flow and he still killed it.

There's an argument to be made here for personal preference. Obviously, Em isn't everybody's favorite rapper. Others prefer Biggie, Nas, Tupac, Jay-Z, or even Weezy, and for good reason. They're all different artists with different abilities and accomplishments.

Having said that, Eminem is just the BEST.
