Les Claypool looks like he smells really bad.

Yeah, but his redneck version of Snoop Dogg's "Gin & Juice" is pure genius.

Yeah, in his days with the Police, Sting definitely was pretty good. Pastorious always gets overlooked. Probably because he died so young. Check out some of Billy Sheehan's solo stuff. I think you'll dig it if you're a bass player.

will do

the problem with this is taste

one of my favorite bass players is the guy from AC/DC, the guy has great tone, his lines are always punchy and right on the money and he's not flashy at all

I also love Flea's style, he's funk, punk and hard core at the same time

Les is an amazing performer, but his style is too weird for a lot of people

Cliff Burton was great, very groundbreaking for his time (although he was basically a mixture of Geezer Butler, Lemmy and John Enthwistle), but he never had a chance to show his full potential

John Paul Jones came up with some of the greatest bass lines ever laid down

Justin Chancelor of Tool is also a very prominent player in his band

John Enthwistle is was and will always be the one that put the bass on the map

but I doubt anyone remembers the bass player from Mindfunk, he was a freak

gotta go with les

I had the opportunity to watch him and his Fearless Flying Frog Brigade warm up (and the actual show) before his 2005 show at the Fillmore. good stuff :D

Jerry was a race car driver
And he drove so goddamned fast
He never did win no checkered flag
But he never did come in last

I haven't heard that. People should stay the f**k away from King Crimson covers. The sh1t Levin used to do with the Chapman Stick was friggin' unreal.

Out of those listed, I voted for Sting.

I'd have to go with Flea here. He's Animal on Bass.

I thought Paul d'amour was tool's bassist.

I vote for John Paul Jones, but if John Myung had been an option, it would be harder for me to decide.
