I really want to see Superman testing his limits against people as strong or stronger than him, we'll get to see him in true danger for once.

Also the scene showed that Supermans main powers are his will and determination.

Then how come he couldn't have used that will and determination to tell Lois the truth before he left?

Can't you see the inconsistency here?

Please don't bring up an argument that has already been done countless times.

I dont think it is an inconsistancy, because they are totally unrelatable situations IMO.

If Superman didnt get rid of NK, the whole of America would have been in mortal danger, including Lois and Martha, Superman HAD to be rid of this thing, no matter the consequences.

Not saying goodbye to Lois, simply doesnt relate to that IMO.

I agree. Can't we have a friggin' thread without discussing stuff that has been covered endless times? :whatever:

Anyways...The lifting of NK certainly does it for me. It's the climax to a great 3rd act. It is a beautiful scene, and Superman goes to extremes to get rid of NK and save the world. As stunning as the Plane sequence is, I just have a deeper connection with the 3rd act overall, it is so much better.

Also he did say goodbye before he lifted the huge landmass. ;)

Watching SR again last night i completely agree, actually, i think it is my favourite 3rd act of ANY CB movie, the amount of emotions it takes you through is astonishing, from elation when Superman saves Lois, etc from the boat, to hate for Lex during the beating scene, to elation again when Lois saves Superman, to sadness when he leaves the plane thinking he is going die, to awe and amazement when he goes for the re-charge, etc, i could go on and on. The emotions it makes you go through are amazing and something very few CB movies manage to achieve.

Also he did say goodbye before he lifted the huge landmass. ;)

Exactly, he took ownership and corrected a mistake he made earlier because he thought that would be the last time he saw Lois once he leaves the plane.

The movie shows how Superman grows in many aspects.

Can't you see the development here? :)

Yeah, and why is it in the Matrix Neo didn't believe he could be a leader, and then at the end fully embraces that role?

Why does Dr Hammond say that he hates kids at the beginning of Jurassic Park, but at the end of the movie has formed a relationship with two of them?

Why is that Jim Carrey's character at the beginning of Liar Liar love his job where he lies all the time, but by the end decides to stand up against injustice?

How dare characters develop and adopt new qualities throughout the movie!

EXACTLY, brilliantly put, the character developed in SR, he didnt stay the same throughout which is easy to do with Superman. He developed into a different and better person by the end of the movie, and was rewarded by finding out he is a father.

Honestly, there is nothing in the film that indicates any real growth, b/c the characterization is so poor and shallow throughout. Additionally, SUperman's character is unlikable.

It's all surface, there is no depth. THere is no why- it just happens.

The other problem is that they started him out with the wrong characterization. He should never have been in the position in the first place. Incorrectly characterizing him in the beginning negates the validity of the whole story and negates any perceived growth, b/c he should have been there in the first place.

So doing the right thing in one's personal life has nothing to do with doing the right thing in one's public life?

It seems that if you act differently in one aspect than in another it is inconsistent.

If Superman's greatest powers are his "will and determination" why wouldn't that apply to any situation? It's not as if those characteristics are limited to certain situations, are they?

IMO, his failure to say goodbye to Lois is a lack of "will and determination," an inability to overcome his difficulty in order to do the right thing.

It's exactly the same thing. Lifting NK was an act of will and determination to do what was right, what he had to do in order to fulfill his responsibilities and make right what was wrong. Not saying goodbye to Lois is the exact opposite, the lack of will and determination to do what is right and failing to fulfill his responsibilities and doing something wrong.

The unfortunate thing is that you are looking at Superman discovering his fatherhood as a reward. Why is it a reward? He did the wrong thing and we are supposed to be happy and proud of him? What about Jason? The perspective is all wrong. When you become a parent, the focus and priority is on the child, not the parent.

SUperman behaved horribly. He deserves no reward.

Which is why i feel the character developed, come the end of SR he is not the same character as the start IMO, he has learned from his mistakes, and will spend the rest of his life trying to apologise for them by being there for Lois and Jason, if a sequel is made, this is what we will see IMO.

IMO he deserved a reward for all of the deeds he performed in the movie, doesnt he deserve an award for the saving the plane? Or going around Metropolis saving people instead of being selfish and going to save Lois (a truly heroic act IMO)? Or risking his life to save America (another truly heroic act, because if he fails, he perishes)?

As i said, he made a mistake, paid for it, apologised, and grew into a true hero by the end of the movie.

Who cares about this now? SR is forgotten and its sequel is dead. Bryan Singer is fired, JL is comming. Its all over now.

BTW, the plane sequence was the only great scene in the movie, IMO.

Lest I was mistaken, this thread was about discussing your favourite scenes. Lets stick to that, shall we? We have other threads to discuss other matters.

Who cares about this now?

Uh.....some of us who still post here perhaps? I'm sure you really love SR, since you're still posting here. :p

SR is forgotten and its sequel is dead. Bryan Singer is fired, JL is comming.

Uh....do you have any hard fact that the sequel is dead & Singer is fired or you want it to be dead? Until there are any hard facts, you are wrong that Singer is fired & the sequel is dead. :whatever:

And yes JL is coming, but guess what? Batman 3 will be out soon & he is in JL. It can apply to Superman too. But hey, deny that anyway then.

Either we stick to discussing favourite scenes without getting ugly, or I shall have to close this thread and impose infractions upon you guys.

The sequel will happen.
