My teen angst comment was perhaps a little harsh ;)

You see I thought Lois was supposed to be the connection to humans...at least it should be.

:cwink: It's ok.
Both can be, why not? However, the fact that Jason is half Kryptonian and half human makes that link even more interesting, imo.

And great comments everyone! Keep them coming.

Interesting sure thing, could discuss for hours the paths this story could go.

Ah I just think the current JLA animated series version of Supes got it right, for the most part.

Agreed, Aveit. I like this human god as you say. A totally perfect Superman is boring and dull, plus he is Not Jesus. He made a few mistakes, but he seemed to have learned from them by the end of the film. And that's what is all about. Plus, even when he felt the worst (he hears that Lois doesn't love him anymore, and after the beatdown), he still performes his duty of protecting and saving the world. Unlike Spidey...:cwink:

Exactly, he doesnt go off moping for hours on end or quitting his superhero life. He sucks it up, and gets on with it, saving many lives in the process.

I'm surprised no one mentioned this scene, but my favorite scene is Superman vs. The Bank Robber. Just as the robber gets ready to gun down the two security guards, Superman flies in front of the bullets and walks towards the the robber as the bullets are bouncing off his chest. That always really pumps me up even though we all seen bullets bounce off Superman before. Then when the robber runs out of ammo in his machine gun, he pulls out a pistol and fires it in Superman's eye and the bullet crumples up and falls to the ground.

My second favorite scene is Superman and the airplane.

Agreed, a great (though not quite the best), that always seems to get me pumped as well, i cant explain it, as you said, we have seen it all before, but the scene is just so pumping for some reason!

I watched this the other day i must say the shuttle save was the most impressive scene, just the way he carried it on his shoulders and flew it off...

as for dialogue, when supes talked about how people were crying out for a saviour, i think that's probably some of the best dialogue given in a superhero film ever...

Its an amazing line, and one that is totally relevant to our world today because it is SO true, and it almost has me weeping everytime, because i have been in the prescense of a few people when they have been crying out for a saviour.

100% yes - we have needed that Superman to come back into our lives for a while. A real hero with real good morals. I like it!

^Routh and Singer got that accross perfectly IMO, they gave us a Superman that we felt very safe in the presence of, as we knew he would protect humanity from any danger.

This is built up throughout the movie, and makes the beating scene on the island all the more shocking because of it.

Obviously I liked the plane rescue scene but it was the little moments that made me love the movie. There are so many, here are a few...

- Clark returning to the Daily Planet, turning around and looking at us for the first time with that dorky grin plastered across his face.
- Superman telling Lois her tape recorder is in "her left pocket" because he clearly saw her putting it in there just minutes before as Clark Kent (and she thought he peeped through her clothes! *chuckle*). The camera even lingers on it. She is so clueless.
- Farm Clark waiting for the sunrise and thinking of childhood.
- Clark's fun "I saw you on the.... *makes a plane with his hands*" line to Lois at the Daily Planet, that was brilliant.
- Clark's sharp, steel-y look at Richard when he kisses Lois in front of him.
- Superman's pointed "... Not everyone" remark to Lois when she says everyone seems pretty happy he's back, his sideways glance there was great (almost a bit "Man, are you for real?").
- Echos of Kitty's heels as she marches angrily toward Lex to slap him.
- Jason's cheesy "You're bald!" line worked for me.
- Superman's shocked look on his face (though fleeting) when Lois tells him she doesn't need a saviour. Also Superman turning away from her after that. And I liked the hurt in his voice when he asked: "Why did you write it?"
- Bullets bouncing off Superman's chest, the bullet in the eye sequence and Superman's little "teasing" eye brow raise at the end when he looks at the robber.
- The way Lex says "alien", tilting his head to the side.
- Jimmy's cake for Clark, already missing a slice or two, showing us just what the co-workers think of Clark (aka they don't think of him at all :woot:).
- Superman visiting the Fortress for the first time since his return, flying toward the camera, stopping in mid-air and going downwards with hands outstretched (also the sun rays in the background were breath-taking!)
- Reference to "Gotham" on the news
- Kitty clinging to Superman after the car diversion scene, asking him to bring her to the hospital (I thought they had nice chemistry, his soft and surprised "Oh" when she jumps into his arms was funny)
- Superman's speech to Jason at the end
- Lois jumping into the sea to save Superman
- Kitty's high pitch at the end of "You didn't actually have to CUT THEM!", love the way she said that.

Etc, etc. I could go on but you get the gist. :cwink: I seriously can't pick just one scene.

Snoo you do mention a lot of very nice little touches in that movie.

Hehe, yes. It's the little moments that make the movie for me, although the big scope of the movie, the flying, Superman's heroics, etc, are all great, too. But it's the details that I appreciate the most.

I know to some people the moments alone aren't enough but as for me, they made me fall in love with Superman all over again. :yay:

Hi, Snoo!! AWESOME list, and I agree with you that the movie is full of many nice/great little moments that made me love the movie so much. Of course I also love the plane scene and all the other bigger scenes in the film, but I also appreciate and deeply enjoy the little bits. I liked your selection, especially the ones I bolded. The Superman's speech to Jason at the end is in fact my favorite scene in the whole movie...so beautiful and poetic! Nice to have you around, Snoo! :yay:

p.s. I'll be back tomorrow to write some of my other favorite moments in the movie. Have to go now. lol.

I just wish they had given Lex a more appropriate role.

Hi Mostpowerful, sorry for my late reply to you! :yay: *waves* I haven't been around this past week but I'm back. Anyhoo, thanks, glad you like the list and I hope you can post yours soon!

Whenever I watch the SR dvd, I always jump to most of these little moments first. While the Requiem for Krypton doc is amazing and I can never get enough of backstage footage, Brandon training and actors talking about the movie, I still get the biggest thrills when I watch my fave scenes. Clark waking up at the farm before sunrise and Clark arriving at the Planet are usually the first scenes I play.

Yay for the little moments! Though honestly, not all of them I listed are exactly "little". :woot: 'Sides, sometimes the smallest of moments can make the biggest impression on you. A lasting one. I could replay those I've listed in my head over and over again.

During my first viewing Kitty actually took me by surprise a little. Her "You didn't actually have to CUT THEM!" line (I looove it) and her jumping into Superman's arms while he can't do anything about it were very memorable to me from the start. The two had great chemistry together and I've actually seen some people admit they'd rather have Parker Posey play Lois! Look how pretty she is on this pic. Very Lois-like, IMO.

Anyhoo, I really like her Kitty, she cracks me up to no end. I'll be happy if the character reappears in the future, I believe Parker said a long time ago she'd like to come back?

I know some people find the character stupid but I thought she was fun.

Hehe, I just might post another list of fave scenes, too. :yay:

Hi, Snoo, so glad you responded!!

I liked Kitty a lot! I think Parker Posey is a very good actress and yes, she is very pretty in that pic, and I also agree that she could have made a great Lois, but I think she is too old for Routh. Actually, I am one of the few people who liked Kate as Lois, though I agree that she looked and sounded to young at times, however, I liked her for the most part and think she was even great in some scenes. I think some people dislike her because her characterization was toned down, and for her bitterness at Superman and her disdain for Clarky. Me? I liked the story and plot, so I had no problem with that, and Kate has grown on me. SR is obviously a more mature and realistic take on the character, and I so dig it. By the way, it is great to find another fan who loves SR! I can feel it in the way you talk, which is the way I talk when discussing this film that I adore.

Here are some more of my favorite moments:

-The little smile Supes gives to Kitty as he is lowering the car. So supermanish!

-LOVE the way the camara pans around Supes when he is floating in space and listening to the cries of the world. It blows my mind! Supes is almost like a god, but so human at the same time. Very compelling scene!

-When Clark meets Jason for the first time, "who are you? I'm Clark, I'm a friend of your mom from before you were born." Ha, is he only knew the truth there... Love Rouths acting. This guy is soo good to emote emotion and great with his body language. He is very subtle, and I like that. His acting style is great for film. He seems very real and sincere. I think he is very talented and can't wait to see him in more movies.

-"I'm sorry I left you, Lois. I'll take you back now." So gentle and sincere is Supes here. His sentence is short and to the point, and I believed him. I also love the way the camare pans around them and the music right before he apologizes to Lois. Heck, the whole flying sequence is magical for me.

-When Superman is outside Lois's house listening and looking through the walls. Yeah, I love this scene and I know a lot of people have problems with it, not me. We could discuss this scene alone for a long time, but for now I just want to go to the point. I LOVED the expression in Supes's eyes here, he said so much without words. He looked very sad and lonely. I feel like he was wondering that maybe, if he hadn't gone away, this home and this child could be his, something we all know He longs to have: a family of his own, to live a normal life like everybody else. I felt sorry for Supes. He was the Outsider, The Last Son of Krypton. I think he wanted to find out more about Lois's new life, and to find out if this new "guy" Richard was the real deal. After all, Lois is Superman's real and true love, so I understand his concern and desperation.

-"Are you ok?" LOVE that moment!! lol, It's when Supes and Lois lock eyes for the first time after some years (in the plane, right after the plane rescue). Supes voice is so gentle and reassuring and so Supermanish the whole scene. Heck, he didn't even need to talk for me to believe he was Superman. IMO, Routh exudes and inhabits the character, especially here in these scenes. Great cinema moment that I will never forget!! Superman did return for me. Period. And I want more!

*ok, it's all for now, but I'll be back to add more favorite little moments! See ya!

I agree that Routh has a great way of getting across emotion and the point of a scene. He is a great actor. In fact I think he did a great job at trying to do the best with what he was given to work with.

The only thing Routh lacks for me is the real presence of a man. You know a mans man. Like Reeves had. Reeves had a more respectable strong presence that Routh does.

Nice selection.

Superman's speech to Jason was for me the definitive moment where I - as much as was liking the movie a lot - started to loved this film.

Loved those touches as Kitty's heals but overall the way Roputh captured the old Reeve's kid-hearted Superman/Clark persona. In little gestures and glances you cannot not forgive this hero for his mistakes.

Same.

I liked the Suoerman looking inside of Lois' house too.

One of my favourite moments also is Brutus playing the piano with Jason. Instead of emphazising the stress of the moment in a obvious way - which is what every superhero movie or action movie does - Singer gives us the opposite; a calm nice moment in the middle of the tension which provokes the exact opposite. Like Hitchcock, Singer made the moment even more stressful by underlining it with a nice little piano tune. At first I was very nervous about Brutus' intentions towards Jason and then everything dissolves into the tune while Lois is trying to secretly ask for help. It's a dichotomic moment where the piano tune made me be more worried about the actual danger of the situation since the movie itself was showing me the danger but not underlining it in a consistent way.

That was a nice obervation, right there. Never thought of that scene in that way.

Thanks. I can't remember the Hitchcock's movie where the climax is underlined by the heroin singing "Que sera sera" (it was a remake from another Hitchcock's film, I think The Man who Knew Too Much) but it's a very peculiar way to make you nervous; what the hell? This thing for sure is about to explode but they're giving me a nice piece of music.

It was the Man Who Knew Too MUch- Doris Day singing her signature song from her later TV show!

I would have to disagree with the Brutus scene - it was nothing so high class.

It was a scene that we did not really need. It did highlight how helpless Lois was but it only served to set up the kid in an uncool manner.

I'm not sure if masterpieces are "needed" or not, but I'm certainly thankful for them.

Jason was set up long before that scene happens. The situation on that scene remains stressful, not knowing if Brutus is going to harm Jason in any second preparing himself to harm Lois right after that. Everything with a innocent piano tune going on.

Gladly enough you'll have thousands of movies that will put "danger music" when a danger scene is going on.

I saw it as a way to make Lex's thugs look some what classy. Oh look he can play the piano. The whole scene felt drawn out and in no way carried any suspense.

I didn't find it classy at all.

I didn't find it classy at all.

Neither did I.

It was sinister. Like a violent child molester preparing himself. Pretending he's all soft and classy when he's actually a monster about to be unleashed. In fact, it what happens, only that against Lois, not Jason. But the first time I saw it, I thought Jason was going to have problems.

Ahh yes that came accross loud and clear - Lexs thugs like children...

Which begged the question in my head why would Lex hire these freaks?
