You mean who was better acting the role or who had better material writing the character?

Henry Cavill has moments being very wooden in his delivery, half of the material he worked with botched the character of uperman, he was also part of Batman V Superman.

Christopher Reeve was ideal in the role, he was so ideal he even gave it a lot of thought as he was acting the role in the bad half of his movies. None of his work made the character less than a beacon of hope and a symbol of what humanity should be like.

The poll is missing Brandon Routh, he's the second best actor in the role, and is even charming in the often maligned yet very underrated Superman Returns. It appears that he was also the best thing about the recent Crisis on Infinite Earths, not just as the best part of a terrible thing, he was genuinely impressive to people who saw it.

The others have their issues, but I will just state that Dean Cain is my favorite, he seriously needed to improve his style instead of "Umm.. uhhhh.. mmmm", which he did that a lot.

I liked Dean Cain in the role ever so slightly better than Christopher Reeve. I like his overall version of the character more significantly better than Reeve's, though.

I liked him.

A big ommission here is George Reeves. But the answer is Christopher Reeve and it isn't even close. This is one of those questions where I don't think it is even in doubt. Reeve OWNED this role.

Reeve, easily. He had the comic accurate looks, the charisma, and great acting ability in the role. Everyone else is lacking in one or several departments.

And I agree that George Reeves should've been on the poll, he's probably second best overall, and was the first truly iconic live action Superman.

Cavill was great if anything because his Superman portrayal was more geared towards what the modern day Superman should be

He gives Superman a deep sense of moral complexity and emotional nuance not seen since the DC Animated Universe. He teaches viewers that Superman should not be taken for granted and that he had to rise above many mistakes to become the symbol of hope and justice his parents always knew he could be.

Man of Steel is my favorite superhero movie and I still think it deserves a true sequel. I've said that before and I'm sure I'll say it again. I can only hope Henry remains on board for future installments of the Superman saga. Henry, Superman and the fans deserve better.

Cain was an incredible Superman. Really the perfect Superman for the 90s. That show is underrated. It did need a bigger budget though and a more focused storyline,

Thank you, finally glad that we can agree on something. This should be about who had the best Superman portrayal, not about politics

I hate to say it, because I really wanted to like him, but Cavill is probably the worst of this list IMO. Best special effects, the look/suit, biggest budget, and he was in BvS (one of my favorite superhero movies ever) but he just didn’t have the genuine warmth the others exuded.

I find it really hard to rank all the Supermen. I haven’t seen all of Lois and Clark or Smallville but I was impressed by Cain and Welling in the seasons I have seen.

Brandon Routh was so wooden as Superman though so how you rank him higher than Hoechlin or Welling I will never understand

Cain was great as Clark but his Superman was awful imo. He’s the only Superman actor that looked uncomfortable in the suit. All the charisma and charm he displayed as Clark is gone when he’s Superman. The only reason he isn’t dead last for me is because of Kirk Alyn.
