Now I love Batman: The Brave and the Bold, it's blown my freakin' mind and completely changed the way I thought about how "good" stories can be presented (short story: I was one of those "It should be dark and serious to be good!" people) just as much as Cowboy Bebop changed about how I thought about anime. I love it so much its taken over BTAS as my favourite Batman cartoon and may even be my favourite cartoon ever. I even let out a girlish squeal (and I'm a guy) when in Game Over for Owlman Joker unveils his Jokermobile.
Still, no series is without its flaws, so what are the problems that really itch you?
For me, the scenes where a hero references Batman a heap when not in the presence of him just really doesn't work. For Jaime it does, but Elongated Man and Plastic Man arguing over him for instance is quite grating.
I'll reserve judgement on the Outsiders as Tucker has stated that they will be much more like their comic counterparts this season.
I also don't like how in episodes that feature a lot of characters a heap of them are oddly silent. I understand its to reduce the money spent but sometimes it feels almost as bad as the recent Public Enemies where a heap of characters move around silently.
The show appears to be getting much more women present, with 3 of the 4 new episodes featuring them significantly (Huntress, Ramona and Mera), but there were very few in the first season.
The use of Steppenwolf and the Female Furies grates me much more than it should because of how normally comic faithful the series is.
Probably most of all though is the strange gradual disappearance of Batman voiceover narration. It was used frequently (and I very much enjoyed it as a new way of seeing Batman's character) but has gradually waned. I'm hoping it will pop up more this season as the first four episodes are exempt since Death Race relies on us not knowing what Batman was thinking and the others only had him as a minor guest star. Incidentally, this doesn't affect the show when the episode is good though, but I still would like to see it again.
