They still like that!!! Green day took a huge risk and going political because deep down inside this is how they felt!!! Why shouldnt they be allowed to express there feelings!!! Name one mainstream band that was political before Green Day??? NONE!!!

I really don't have a problem with them being political. Dylan and John Lennon were both artists whose songs often dabbled in politics and other world issues.

It's just that Green Day is so blatantly bias in their music that it becomes annoying and in your face.

2 of my favorite BJ Armstrong quotes:

“A guy walks up to me and asks 'What's Punk?'. So I kick over a garbage can and say 'That's punk!'. So he kicks over a garbage can and says 'That's Punk?', and I say 'No that's trendy!”

“I'm an idiot anyway, but sometimes you feel like an idiot times ten when you're stoned.”

First, American Idiot is borderline political!!! They dont say anything directly about President Bush, or Republicans, or even Democrats!!! So how exactly is blatantly bias???!!! I read almost every Green Day interview and I never read anything where they say "Hey liberals are right, conservatives are wrong!"

Oh, come on, you honestly can tell me that there is not a mere inkling of bias on the album. The album's title track is full of slander against Bush.

Ass is not a "bad" word here so I think he's typing "Azz" to trick Jesus into thinking he doesn't use vulgar communication.

Green Day fans seem to have pre-schooler mentalities.

They drastically changed their image. Green Day started out like The Ramones. Their songs were fun and really didn't care whether or not they were second rate as far being musicans and songwriters as long as they were making music and having a good time.

Now, they've gone all serious and political and have trashed everything they were about.

As for Weezer, does it really need to be explicity stated. Just one listen to "Beverly Hills" explains all.

this isnt selling out. green day concsiously deciding on their own to try to take their music to a new and different place, rather than retreading the same old ground is not selling out. BUT, if this was an unwanted change in style that was forced onto them by the record label, and they eventually caved in at the sight of all the dollar signs waved in front of them...then that'd be selling out. but, if they made the decision on their own, without money having any influence int he decision, then thats not selling out. that being said.....new green day sucks....especially american idiot.

and in regards to weezer (this also applies to green day) just because a once great band ends up making a crappy album (i.e. blue albume to make believe) doesnt mean they sold out....it just means the band failed that time around.

holy s#!t, are you serious? you seriously think no band before green day ever had political messages in their music?

Don't you all know Green Day is the most innovative band in the history of innovativeness. They started everything. Political messages and maturity? Green Day started it all. They also started the guitar, base and drum fad. Green Day started Punk in England too. I think they also discovered America but history from that era is sketchy at best.

If I'm not mistaken, Billy Joe Armstrong invented the lightbulb. Man's a friggin' genius.

You know the whole "walking" thing. Billy Joe started it by thinking how am I going to get over there?

Exactly, and as far as punk rock goes, Joe Strummer and Joey Ramone sucked so bad and did nothing to make punk rock so influential and as popular as it is today.

Billy Joe Armstrong invented the wheel and fire.

billy joe was the sex pistols muse when they wrote god save the queen. it was the influence of american idiot that caused the ramones to write bonzo goes to bitburg.

Billy Joe created *********ion, and shared this gift with the world because he is just so damn generous.

Billy Joe is widely considered by scientists across the globe to be the pinnacle of human evolution. Mankind has never witnessed a more advanced organism than him.

I meant after 9/11 they took alot of the politcal songs off the radio. Green Day took a chance by going politcal. They were one of the first mainstreams bands after 9/11 that got political and still got radio play!. Sorry thats what I meant I should have been more specific.:O
