Bird Box

It was good, I'd recommend checking it out. It is better than A Quiet Place which I found to be disappointing. I'm not a Sandra Bullock fan but she does real good, so does Malkovich. It's more of a survival movie than it is a horror movie. I'd of liked it if they executed the horror elements mote graphically.

I finished this and... nothing really stands out. No great scenes, just a bunch of okay ones (and a few really bad/dumb ones). Bullock's pretty good, but not great. Trevante Rhodes does well and his character is likable enough but it's no MOONLIGHT. I liked Malkovich and his character bordered on interesting but in the end it's a bit of a thankless role. And the overall story might have been kinda fresh ten years ago but it's very "been there done that" now, especially coming out the same year as A QUIET PLACE. It's a lot of apocalypse/disaster gimmicks and tropes thrown together. More like TROPE BOX.

The kids were super cute but man did it feel like a cheap way to get you emotionally invested. There are so many shots of the kids' cute faces and it's like, yeah, I get it, I don't want anything bad to happen to them, either.

Just saw it. This thing is overrated as hell lol...

Its not overrated, just over-discussed. At least within my circles...most people I talk to are rating it about the same as I did....its just okay. Nothing special.

I think the memes have made it a bigger thing than it actually is. Some of the memes are better than the film itself.

This movie sucked. Couldn't wait to turn it off.

Thought it was ok. A lot of what I didn't like were classic things that I dislike in horror movies like characters being dumb, not getting attached to the characters, etc. Feel like the probably could've trimmed it down by like 15 mins. Some of the characters were really unneccesary like MGK, Rosa Salazar, and Jackie Weaver, especially the first 2. Rosa Salazar is a good actress with a decent amount of roles under her belt and Jackie Weaver is Jackie Weaver, so I'm really surprised how they used them.
I liked Bullock, Malkovich, and Trevante Rhodes a lot, but yeah it's a medium level film. I wouldn't watch again. For sure if I saw this in theaters I'd be pissed.
They for sure are.
Companies are doing this now. A podcast I was listening to with some music industry insiders were saying they now have people dedicated to it. That's music but still...

I mean it worked. If it wasn't for the memes I probably wouldn't have checked it out. Wanted to see what the hubbub was about

Yeah no one, or very few, are saying the film is anything special. It's just a meme thing now.

It was a Lifetime movie with Sandra Bullock and more money in the budget. It was just okay.
I don't know about all that. Although I've never seen a Lifetime movie.

I like the one description Forbes gave to it: "The Happening, but better. A Quiet Place, but worse"

I thought it was just fine with good acting. The memes are funny.

Up until the the grocery store i liked it, i didn't like how they glossed over 5 years, which would have been bear on impossible given the circumstances.

I felt it was more a metaphor for social media - giving into it and believing the hype will ruin you.

Some issues throughout but overall I quite enjoyed this. I think it works much better as a character piece than a post apocalyptic movie though. I will say though I think it's super important that Netflix makes these type of mid-quality movies, their TV side is fine but their film side is really hit or miss.

I'll just add, the fact Netflix released the viewing figures for this is kinda significant. Most movies wouldn't do those type of numbers in 2 months in the cinema.

That's silly and a monumental stretch

EDIT: I see online now that a few people have this theory. I also see some people think it's about racism. And some people think it's about PC Culture.

I think people are just attaching whatever they dislike to the meaning of the movie or are looking way too deep into it

I saw the film because of a short video that Netflix released of some birds "reviewing" Bird Box :o

And what exactly is the meaning of the film??

You mean to tell me the writer of the book had absolutely no underlying theme, message or metaphor....

Now That's silly and a monumental stretch

Something tells me this wouldn't have done as well as a traditional theatrical release. More people will bite from the comfort of their own living room through Netflix.

I would have never gone to the cinema to watch this - quiet night in.. sure... I would actually pay $10 to watch a movie at home - I reckon many would!!
Imagine WB, Sony etc had a streaming service - game changer!

Not every film or story needs to have some deep meaning.

And if the creators meant for to be a commentary for whatever? Then they did a mediocre to poor job of it
