I love Hauer, but I think Mr. Earle is pretty obsolete at this point.

Mr. Earle was fired and humiliated. Roman Sionis wants to humiliate Bruce Wayne. It makes sense that he would turn to a man with knowledge of the corporation who also holds a grudge of sorts.
Every action has a reaction of course.
Plus, as you said, Mr. Hauer is brilliant in the role. I truly hated that litte worm.

Mr. Earle should turn out to secretly be named Roman Sionis!

Mr. Earle is really Black Mask?
I don't think the fans would see that one coming.

I'm not sure how I feel about Black Mask. On one hand he is a realistic and grounded villain for Nolan, but on the other he isn't exactly a great character and he would be the fourth in face incident characters (scarecrow with mask, Joker with face paint, Two-Face with burn). Also he seems a little bit of a step back to em from the freaks circle, I'd like to see the freak element dominant in 3.

I think bringing Black Mask would work really well...

After the Joker's doings and such...Roman comes into the mob and clears everything up and becomes their leader!

But this time...They won't turn to a man they don't understand...They understand fully on what he wants and that is Batsy!

this is why black mask and/or dead shot should be in the 3rd movie. obviously batman will be a target by both gotham citizens and the underworld. dead shot will try to assassinate batman and black mask could be the one who highers him for the job.

^Could work...But Black Mask is suppose to be pretty badass...And that would be quite the p*ssy move of him to not take matters into his own hands!

im not saying that black mask would just sit behind a desk and give orders, in the end a confrontation between him and batman will happen, but black mask as the leader of gotham's underworld should understand that he cant kill batman by himself, he needs a trained assassin. :cwink:

Personally I think that if they include Black Mask they need a flashback to Wayne's past. Have Bruce, Roman and Tommy Elliot as childhood friends so that it's all a little more credible.

I know Roman Sionis was Bruce Wayne's childhood "friend" in the comics, but I've grown weary of the superhero movie cliche that all villains have to be somehow connected to the hero. I'd prefer to see Black Mask as a businessman with no more than a casual connection to Bruce Wayne who got pushed over the edge. Maybe we could see them together at a party or a business meeting, or they could casually mention having met as kids, but I don't want more than that.

seven posts and already being insightful.

okay, who are you?

It's been suggested by other posters already, but if any sequel picks up more or less right after The Dark Knight Rachel's funeral is a possible way to introduce Roman. Sure, it's still a bit cliche but that doesn't neccesarily mean bad. Nor does it mean Bruce Wayne has to know who he is other than his family name. If Bruce was out of the picture for years it's not unreasonable for Roman Sionis to have been involved with and have been in love with Rachel, or to blame Wayne for her death.

I've heard this before, and although it makes since, to me it brings up the problem of "Oh look here is a guy who has been here forever and knows everybody and even though the audience has seen a good portion of all these characters's life they have never seen or heard of this guy before"

I think a hinted past would be better. Maybe imply Bruce and Roman were acquaintances in college. It gets the same message across without the cornyness.

okay, who are you?

Heh, that's the second time since I've started posting here that someone's called me smart. :woot:

If you must know, my name is Rachel Dawes and I'm a lawyer in Gotham.

I like Black mask. You can express a lot of things under a mask, just look at Heath in the prologue, apparently some actors say it's kind of freeing in a way.

Well, with bringing him in as an old flame of Rachel's from Bruce's time outwith Gotham it'd explain why he'd never been mentioned before, and why Bruce doesn't know of him. Perhaps he's returned to Gotham after years of living elsewhere to take over the family business?

There's the college idea also or just bringing in Sionis as a business rival rather than having any sort of past connection at all to Bruce.

i say bring in black msk as the ceo of a company new to gotham, but have some little remark about from roman about bruce and caves, bats or something like that, meaning they may have brifly known each other after bruce fell in the well.

As long as they take the time to mention Elliot and Sionis at some point we should be good. I just wish they did something similar already. I hate it when childhood friends spring up from nowhere, with no prior clue that they even existed.
You can set up both Black Mask and Hush without much difficuty I think.
As for actually casting him and how he could work in a film.
I think that he should not be the central focus but rather a distraction. Whilst Bruce is fighting Riddler he doesn't notice his old friend Roman slipping further into insanity until Lucius Fox is kidnapped and held for ransom.
You can involve Mr. Earle too.

Good idea, Batman would be so pre-occupied with riddles and the riddler himself that his personal relationships suffer as a result.

For a female which will probably be needed, id bring in Talia ... would be good to sort of come full circle back to Ras ....

if you'd ever seen a koala run you would be scared. ronny would be scared
