That was a beautiful anime short. I wish more modern anime was that good.

These reactions sound too good to be true...BR is one of my favorite films, so here's hoping that this really is a worthy sequel.

Those early reactions are mostly from nerd/fanboy sites (Collider, Nerdist, Den of Geek, IGN, i09, Cinemablend etc). The next batch of reactions/tweets will be even more interesting as the critics in attendance are the major publication types.

I think even the major publications have warmed to the original due to its heavy influence on pop culture over the decades. So if it is in the same vain stylistically as Scott's film, they theoretically should be pleased with this one.

Not really a lot of British journos are saying the same thing and we're the harshest judges. We get it a day earlier than the US.

Also Blade Runner is a cult classic so BR fanboys are the harshest judges.

I've seen #BladeRunner2049 and really enjoyed it. It's GORGEOUS, marinating in its heady concepts. Sylvia Hoeks is a scene stealer.

I saw #BladeRunner2049 a few days ago, and the more I think about it the more I love about it. Gorgeously directed. Sylvia Hoeks is AMAZING.

Gosling, Deakins, Villeneuve, Ford, Hoeks, Zimmer & Wallfisch all working at the top of their games.

Cinematography is beyond words.

In ongoing effort to dillute/discredit film critics, WB has given junket & fan-boy press greenlight to tweet "sentiments" about BLADE RUNNER

https://***********/AskDebruge/status/912789874121498624

Studio is terrified you'll hear it's slow. They've reinvented the definition of running time. "Spoiler": BLADE RUNNER 2049 is 2 hrs 44 mins.

So at best a slow, suspenseful abstraction with fantastic cinematography and good performances, and at worst a dragging mess whose lofty themes just cave in under their own weight and no amount of well shot scenes or standard issue good actors can save.

It should be slow and deliberate. It's a noir film in sci fi clothes.

LMAO! If anyone complains Blade Runner is slow as criticism then you just don't get Blade Runner. Best move on to what you do like Independence Day: Resurgence or some other crappy sci-fi.

You're gonna have people going because they think it's a scifi action romp and also because they're fans of Gosling and Ford and have no idea how plodding yet methodical the original flick is. I'm waiting for the group of teenage girls that go because they "heard it's cool" or like Gosling and then immediately take out their phones or walk out as soon as it starts getting dialogue heavy.

Glad Sylvia Hoeks gets praise. I like her and I hoped she gets stuff to do in the film.

Debruge from Variety is saying what I thought. Nerd/fanboy sites will go kkkrazzzy for this and WB is letting 'em go all out. WB is playing it smart. The movie is probably a knock out but that doesn't mean that those geek guys won't fawn over BR2049 a bit too much. Anyway, I'll wait for the raves from the trades and other major publications. Villenueve has my trust. He has earned it.

I can't post the pic due to language but according to BBFC, the approved running time for BR2049 is 163 mins and 14 seconds.

The girls are actually getting good notices for this one. Sylvia Hoeks and Ana de Armas has been mentioned in some of these early tweets. They are being singled out as the standout performer. This is very nice.

This movie is not supposed to be dialogue heavy, Villeneuve likes to go light on the dialogue. But honestly....could care less what those kinds of people think. I'm happy with the runtime, and apparently the movie is gorgeous (no real surprise there) .

Debruge is a critic himself, and sounds slightly ******** with his comments. I do expect there to be negative reviews for this, it shouldn't come as a surprise next week when it happens. I'm surprised as it is by the initial positive reception, but as more people come out and see it obviously not everyone is going to like a noir sci fi thinker like this.

I also thought early on that Sylvia might end up having the best character in the movie.

Armas too? I thought she's a crappy actress, even though gorgeous.

Holy hell 2:44 slow film. They're gonna evacuate sleeping theaters. 2 hours of the original Blade Runner put people to sleep. But 3 hours...

Blade Runner 2049 is stunning visually. Some truly inspired moments. Not sure as a story it 100% works? Lower those expectations a tad. (1)

Villeneuve has some truly masterful sequences. Deserves Best Director nod consideration #BladeRuner2049

And no joke Harrison Ford is fantastic. Best Supporting actor nod is not a reach. #BladeRunner2049 (3)

Deakins, Prod Design and Visual Effects? Major, major player #bladerunner2049
#oscars

Obviously this kinda praise upsets OutofBoose.
Leto is amazing.

In all seriousness....WB...thank you for letting the film be 2hrs 44 mins. If thats whats required then great. Now do the same for DC films.
