Thanks for these Faora! Wonder what the reception will be like in Japan... I'm hoping it continues to do well overseas. It still seems like the movie everyone here in the UK is seeing (until Thor comes out next week at least!)
Maybe cute Ana will attract japanese in movie). Hope about $40-50 milions).:yay:

I said a few pages back how I think...
the giant hologram Joi saying "you look like a good Joe" wasn't meant to show that his Joi was just following her programming, I think it was supposed to be a coincidence but it was that moment which made K realise he HAS a name now (given to him by HIS Joi) and that he is more than just a replicant and that although this giant Joi may look the same (and even say the same things) she's just not the same (even if they are, to HIM she's not and that's what makes her "real" - noted how it was supposed to mirror the scene between Deckard and Rachael Mk2 earlier)

Hence why he ripped his bandage off his nose and suddenly got the willpower to kick some ass. I don't think you'd feel that way if you thought everything you'd felt wasn't real. You'd probably go to bed and eat Ben & Jerry's cookie dough ice cream under the duvet
Anyway the whole point of not giving a definitive answer and leaving ambiguity is so we can have these conversations and form our own decisions based on what we see/interpret. I still can't decide if Deckard is a replicant...

I interpreted the last “Joi” scene as K realizing she was just a program. She calls him Joe, revealing it wasn’t just a personalized thing between them, and the shot lingers on the “what you want to hear” tagline. To me that’s a pretty strong implication.

Yeah that's a totally valid interpretation, but not the one I get from watching the same thing. Which is why I love this movie. Hopefully people will still be dissecting this in 35 years!

This movie certainly stays with you for a few days after seeing it.

I really wish the ending would have been a bit more upbeat. I really wanted [BLACKOUT]K[/BLACKOUT] to live after all he had been through.

Also, Luv seemed to have a sadistic pleasure in doing things to humans.

That was my interpretation of the scene also.

This was the best movie I’ve seen all year. I’m not even a huge fan of the original, but good God this was great. I hope it gets a lot of nominations for awards; maybe that could lead to a re-release and more $$.

BR2049 is flopping in China. It has abysmal audience ratings (the ratings for this movie basically equates to a 'D'/'F' CinemaScore) and it's OD was an appalling 2.4 million. It's was tracking higher than GITS at one point but GITS has left BR2049 for dead when it comes to final numbers. To further rub salt into the wounds, Geostorm is doing very well and it is curb stomping Blade Runner so far with 4XBR2049's figures and way better word of mouth.

Nothing new about China. Only Transformers, Furious and comics. BR2049 not for chinese).

Shame, was hoping it would give this movie a boost.

Well....look on the bright side, guys, this'll probably be out on blu ray quick, probably by Christmas and I can't wait to own this thing.

Good not everything needs to cater to Chinese box office. The box office splits are pretty abysmal anyway.

Deadpool wasn't even released in China, so good on Deadpool.

Good job chinese censors.

my ONLY complaints in the movie were the lack of music queues from BR 81, and the movie was so LOUD in some parts (mainly the music) my theater's speakers could not handle it lol (to be fair the theater is over 25 years old).

At least the Chinese don't deny climate change. They could be a lot crazier.

Probably a dumb question but I really want to catch this in theaters and because I've been terribly busy this month, I get a chance to see it tomorrow. It's been years since I've seen the first one and to be honest, can't remember much of it at this point.

Is it a better experience to rewatch the first one or does it work as a standalone? Theaters in my area are already pushing it out and I'm thinking in watching the first one down the line.

I actually saw this with my mom who'd never seen the original, and she liked it. I think it works just fine as a standalone.

I can't believe this movie is doing THIS poorly. That makes me a sad panda. :(

They spent way too much on it. I know they probably had to open up the checkbook to bring in Harrison Ford, but they didn't need to make it a $170 million movie.
