We previously got a look at a bunch of other clips showing Susano’o moves. His gameplay revolves around using the eight seals located on the bottom of the screen. These are unlocked with his drive. The arrow indicates which one is selected and switches for each time Susano’o lands a hit. These seals correspond to a special move, and include some that can be leveled up twice.

Learn More About BlazBlue: Central Fiction’s Naoto, Hibiki, Nine, And Izanami. October 26, 2016 . 9:00am

Four character profiles explain Naoto, Hibiki, Nine, And Hades: Izanami’s motivations, as well as give ideas of how they play, in BlazBlue: Central Fiction.

20 comments Read >

When people pick up BlazBlue: Central Fiction, they’re going to be able to fight as six new characters. Mai Natsume, Es, Susano’o, Naoto Kurogane, Hibiki Kohaku, Nine the Phantom, and Hades: Izanami. To help people learn more about everyone, official character profiles have been released for four of the new fighters. Each one also talks a little bit about how the character plays.

Naoto Kurogane

The protagonist of the novel, The Bloodedge Experience, Naoto mysteriously wields the Bloodedge, the same power that Ragna has. Naoto has been sent to the BlazBlue timeline by Raquel Alucard – a world in which he died long ago. Confused and lost, he tries to find a way home.

With a balanced playstyle, a sneaky ranged game and good, solid damage, Naoto is a great pick for the player who wants a character who has the tools to deal with any situation.

Hibiki Kohaku

Hailing from a clan of assassins dedicated to serving the Mutsuki family, Hibiki is Kagura Mutsuki’s loyal assistant and the only reason any NOL admin work gets done in the city of Ibukido. Under his calm and cool exterior, a seething murderous intent drives him.
Hibiki is fast and slippery, with the ability to project his shadow as a projectile or as a teleport at will, he can pressure from many distances and change position on screen instantly. His ability to pressure the opponent with highs, lows and side switches will suit the player who likes to rush down his opponent.

Nine the Phantom

One of the Six Heroes who stopped the Black Beast from consuming the world long ago, the wife of Jubei and the mother of Kokonie, Nine was presumed dead for a long time before being revealed as the Phantom who served Hades Izanami. Driven mad by her experiences as the Phantom, Nine has her own plans for the world.
Nine has quick attacks, incredible range, a dash that teleports her around and even a full screen overhead projectile attack. Nowhere on the screen is safe from her attacks. Nine is a fantastic pick for the players who enjoy driving their opponents crazy with oppressive space control.

Hades: Izanami

Inhabiting the body of Saya, the sister of Ragna and Jin, Izanami is the former Imperator of the Novus Orbis Librarium and the one who had been pulling the strings of events up until this point. Izanami is an immortal being intent on granting ‘the gift of death to the world’. Discarding her co-conspirators, Terumi and Relius, as well as her title of Imperator, Izanami prepares her end game.
Izanami is a mix of pressure and zoning, with the ability to change her ‘mode’ between follow-up attack options and multiple projectiles. She’s hard to catch, with her ability to float and move around the screen in irregular ways. Izanami is an excellent pick for players who enjoy having lots of options and frustrating the opponent with unpredictable play.

BlazBlue: Central Fiction is immediately available in Japan for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. North America gets the game on November 1, 2016, with Europe’s version following on November 4, 2016.

BlazBlue: Central Fiction’s New Characters Answer Questions. November 8, 2016 . 12:00pm

Es, Naoto, Hibiki, Izanami, and Nine’s arcade storylines in BlazBlue: Central Fiction are all enlightening,
offering important information about the game’s world, lore, characters, and motivations.

9 comments Read >

When people go through BlazBlue: Central Fiction, they have five new playable characters to choose from. Es, Nine, Hibiki, Naoto, and Izanami are all immediately available to choose from at the start. While getting to finally control Nine and Izanami is something we’ve wanted since we’ve known about their existence and involvement in the BlazBlue storyline, Es, Hibiki, and Naoto are outliers. They’re cool characters, but you might wonder if they really have a place here. Each one fits perfectly within this storyline and offers answers to questions we might not even know we had, elaborating on their own roles and the nature of the game.

Hibiki seems like the most innocuous of all five immediately available new BlazBlue: Central Fiction cast members. He’s Kagura’s servant and an assassin, someone who just seemed to be there in BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma. While having someone with that skill set as a playable character is interesting, especially since he makes use of shadowy abilities and clones to attack enemies, his real strength comes form the way in which he’s used in the plot. He’s one of the characters to have Act 1, 2, and 3 storylines in the arcade mode, following his activities throughout the game. We watch as he becomes something of the ultimate tool. Through him, we get to see how the wants and needs of someone who doesn’t seem to have any would be exposed and exploited. He’s interesting in the same way Litchi is, as both are flawed characters who are descending into some dark places. Through him, we learn more about himself and some of the other characters.

With Es, we gain a better understanding of her character and how everything she has done influenced the BlazBlue series. In her own XBlaze – Code: Embryo and XBlaze – Lost: Memories stories, we saw her interactions with Legacy Weapons like the Sealed Spear: Izayoi and the Master Unit, watched her decide to stay in the Boundary with the Embryo, sealing the Wadatsumi Gate and creating the Phantom Field. All of these things end up factoring into BlazBlue: Central Fiction’s storyline in some way and, with her presence, we see the role she’s destined to fulfill after her previous, happy life. We understand how her presence will help Ragna achieve his destiny. Her connection to the Azure gives us an additional opportunity to comprehend something that may otherwise be beyond us.

Naoto is interesting, in that his presence helps us better understand the nature of timelines and realities in the BlazBlue universe. We always had some idea that the novel series he’s from, BlazBlue: Bloodedge Experience, was a prequel to the video game’s timeline. As we go through his act in the arcade mode of BlazBlue: Central Fiction, we better understand the true nature of his world. We’re able to see how it connects to the one we’re more familiar with and understand more about people like Izanami, Hazama, Relius, and Rachel. The interactions he has with other characters and the comparisons to Ragna, the Bloodedge we’re more familiar with, helps define him as well. Through his storyline and conversations with other characters, we begin to learn more about the Naoto from the video game’s timeline and his family, and more about how this conclusion impacts his own time and place. Naoto’s inclusion makes me believe Arc System Works is giving us a hint as to the future of the BlazBlue series after BlazBlue: Central Fiction.

Izanami is an interesting force, more so in her own arcade storyline than anywhere else. Though, her appearances throughout BlazBlue: Central Fiction offer more information than we’ve ever had about the nature of her existence and motivations. We finally know exactly who and what she is. We understand what she wants, what her desire is. Thanks to her increased presence in every storyline, as well as her own, we end up knowing absolutely everything we’d want or need to know about Saya, Noel, and everyone who shares a bit of these characters. With her presence, we’re getting answers to questions we’ve had since BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger.

I like to think Nine is the most important of all the new playable characters. Her limiters are removed and she’s freed. She’s working to achieve her goals and shares responsibility for much of BlazBlue: Central Fiction’s plot. In a game filled with Observers and Chosen, she’s one who’s overseeing many people’s desires and plucking important parts to create something that can change the world. She’s as complex to play as she is to understand, and through her storyline and interactions with characters like Celica, Kokonoe, and Ragna, we finally understand why one of the Six Heroes would suddenly be one of BlazBlue’s biggest bads. I’d even suggest saving her arcade mode storyline, as well as Ragna and Noel’s, for the very end, due to the truth that comes from knowing exactly why she’s doing everything she does.

Each one of BlazBlue: Central Fiction’s new characters carries so much weight. These new fighters each have an important place in the storyline. By going through each of their storylines, we’re learning more about themselves, this world, existing characters, and maybe even the future of the series. Characters like Izanami and Nine are very obviously major players. They have been for some time. But these other new contenders are more critical to the plot and future of the series than they might otherwise suggest. While people tend to have their favorites in a series such as this, I strongly recommend playing through Es, Naoto, Hibiki, Nine, and Izanami’s arcade modes. The things you’ll learn will do you good.

BlazBlue: Central Fiction is available for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

BlazBlue: Central Fiction Offers Closure And More Questions. November 25, 2016 . 12:00pm

While BlazBlue: Central Fiction answers many of the questions that came up during BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, Continuum Shift, and Chrono Phantasma, it also offers new possibilities for future games.

23 comments Read >
BlazBlue: Central Fiction is the end of an era. With this installment, a quartet is complete. Many questions we’ve had about its world and major characters are answered, allowing people who have had enough and are ready to go to walk away. But, for people who do still find themselves craving more from this particular line, it manages to offer additional questions to continue the story. To make things easier for people who want to know what happens, here’s a general summary of the things that happened and where the series could go from here. It’s a very confusing, twisting and turning storyline, so we’ll go over the most important points and how that ties into the future.

Warning: spoilers for BlazBlue Central Fiction lie ahead.

Let’s start with something simple. We know BlazBlue is trapped in a time loop where the world keeps getting reset. Certain special people, like Rachel Alucard, maintain their memories despite this. At one point in the story, Rachel tells a tale about a young woman who wants to be saved by her prince. Except, he never saves her. He keeps fighting the monster instead. She keeps resetting the world because she wants to be with him again. Ragna is the prince. The Origin is the young woman. Ragna kept becoming attacking her, which is why she would reset the world.

In BlazBlue: Central Fiction, we see that most of the roster has survived the end and are considered Entitled, ones who possess Drives and could rebuild the world with their dreams. If they defeat Hades: Izanami, they can make their own world with the Azure. Ragna isn’t qualified, so he begins defeating the other people who are qualified, taking their memory and dreams so they become unqualified. They turn into seithr, but he remains. (Es is also fulfilling her role as Embryo Storage and “stores” people’s existences along the way.) Since Doomsday is going to happen as long as Hades: Izanami exists, Nine uses her Requiem spell, giving her life in the process, to stop Hades: Izanami for a week, giving Ragna and the others time to possibly set things right.

Ragna takes Noel and Mu to the Black Beast’s corpse, after Rachel tells them it could act as a Cauldron. Since Noel is the Origin recreated and her and her sisters all share the same soul, she and Mu fuse together. Ragna and Noel come up with a plan. Instead of killing Ragna killing Hades: Izanami, he distracts her so Noel can observe and fuse with her. (This happens as Minerva is sent to counteract Requiem’s explosion as time resumes, preventing the world from being destroyed.) As Ragna and Noel go to reunite with Jin and Tsubaki, they find Nu. Since Nu’s soul is complete, Noel can’t fuse with her.

Nu can still be controlled, though. Terumi activates her and sends her to attack Tsubaki. Hakumen protects her, at which point Terumi kills him. Terumi takes Hakumen’s body and becomes Susano’o. He takes Noel and the Master Unit. He then heads to the Gate. We learn Ragna is the Azure Guardian and is determined to end the Central Fiction. This means going to the Gate with Jin and Trinity to face Terumi. Terumi tells them he wants to destroy every world the Origin creates. Jin and Ragna each fight Terumi, with Ragna using BlazBlue to pull him out of Susano’o. Jin takes then takes Susano’o, with Trinity’s help, and kills Ragna and Terumi. (This makes Susano’o a hero, so Terumi wouldn’t be feared.) In the Azure Horizon, Ragna kills Terumi and takes back Noel. She fuses with the Origin, making her soul whole again. (She still considers and calls herself Noel.) Ragna then reunites with his siblings, says goodbye, then takes Noel and Jin’s dreams and memories of him.

Ragna is the Central Fiction in BlazBlue: Central Fiction. He is the constant, the thing that the Origin is attempting to connect with. They speak, she asks why he kept attacking him, and he apologizes and says she won’t be alone any longer. Ragna activates and stays with the Master Unit, removing himself from everyone’s memories, restoring their dreams, and reconstructing the world without Amaterasu or Takamagahara in the process. Amane is there to see him off and have his memories taken. Ragna’s sword is left behind at the gate.

New questions arise in BlazBlue: Central Fiction’s ending, as there are a number of cliffhangers. Many people are happy and well. Noel and Lambda are both sisters (as in nuns), living with Nu at the church. In this new reality, Homura is the Imperator and accompanied by Jin, Kagura, and Hibiki. We see people like Litchi, Tao, Mai, Amane, Kokonoe, Jubei, Tager, Bullet, and Valkenhayn alive and happy. Everything is good with all of them. It’s others that hint at something more.

Many characters have new possibilities ahead of them. Naoto is a big factor and needs to find his own world again. How might it return? During BlazBlue: Central Fiction, we see something go into Carl’s eye after looking in Kagutsuchi’s Cauldron, despite Nirvana attempting to pull him back, and see him showing interest in Relius’ work. He has a mask like his father’s in the epilogue and is exploring the First District. Could history be repeating? Will he turn into a man like his father? Rachel and Tsubaki, who is bearing Hakumen’s sword, are at a grave that has Ragna’s sword beside it. Rachel doesn’t know whose grave it is, but says she will never give up, continues to hope, and will try to find him. She ties her ribbon to the sword. But, after Rachel and Tsubaki leave, the sword disappears. Will Rachel go looking for Ragna? Does his sword’s disappearance mean Ragna exists as an active participant in this world? And what happened to Hazama and Relius? Could either come back?

While the story that began in BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger has clearly come to an end in BlazBlue: Central Fiction, things aren’t over. Ragna, Jin, and Noel’s story has been resolved. But, there are many possibilities ahead that could be explored in future entries. Could Naoto be our new protagonist? Will we see Carl become an antagonist on par with his father? Will Rachel end up actually searching for, and finding, Ragna? We’ll have to wait and see.

BlazBlue: Central Fiction is on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

this game is pretty fun. lots of single player content that puts SF V to shame.

though I am a bit disappointed that the DLC characters like Es and Mai don't get the full 3 acts in their story modes ( they only get Act 3 ).

Now that we know eight of the nine titles to be at EVO 2017, event founder Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar, shared his thoughts on some of the games that made it in and some that didn’t in a recent interview with Shoryuken.

Here are some highlights from interview between Zavian “mushin_Z” Sildra of SRK and Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar.

On Street Fighter V topping its entrants record:
mushin_Z: Street Fighter V topped a massive 5100 entrants in 2016. Are you confident SFV can break that record in 2017?
Mr. Wizard: Records are meant to be broken, so anything is possible! We have a lot of space this year, so accommodating tournaments that break records should be doable.

On having both Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U in the lineup:
mushin_Z: Smash fans are likely thrilled, but not everyone is, surely–what justifies the inclusion of both Smash 4 and Melee once again?
Mr. Wizard: Having the 2nd and 3rd most entrants last year, with a very diverse cross-section of Smash players, says a lot. These are two dedicated communities and we see the value in bringing them both back. Smash is in fact a fighting game, and they deserve to be represented at Evo.

On having both Arc System Works’ main fighters, Guilty Gear and BlazBlue in the lineup:
mushin_Z: Air-dashers might be surprised that both Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 and BlazBlue: Central Fiction made it to the main stage this time, more likely expecting one to edge out the other. What made you decide to let them share the spotlight? Did the upcoming release of GG Xrd ReV 2 make a big difference?
Mr. Wizard: We were all set to let BlazBlue have the spotlight this year, but then that surprise curveball of ReV 2 getting announced a few days ago changes things up. We wanted to make sure that we could include both games this year, as we recognize that they have different communities for those games. Evo 2014’s BlazBlue Finals were epic, so we’re looking forward to seeing what players can do this year!

On Pokkén Tournament and other titles that didn’t make the lineup, but will get a chance via votes:
mushin_Z: Pokkén Tournament debuted last year, and is now out of the lineup–was it a hard game to cut? How strongly was it considered? And were Killer Instinct or Mortal Kombat X even in the running this year?
Mr. Wizard: Every fighting game is in the running and is considered every year. One of the key elements that we look at is if people are still playing it, and how often. Evo can only do so many tournaments every year, so that’s why we included all those titles in the vote so that we can make sure everyone has a shot at the final game.

EVO 2017 is scheduled to take place from July 14th through July 16th at the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Those of you looking to attend can get more info on the official website. You can also head over here to donate and help a game get into the main lineup.

Here’s an overview of the game, via its Steam page:
About
Combined with 2D fighting game and visual novel, the BlazBlue series has been supported by many fighting game fans. The latest installment, BlazBlue: Central Fiction, serves as the ending to the Azure Saga and reveals the truth that has ever been in mystery.

First time in this series, “Naoto = Kurogane, “Hibiki = Kohaku,” “Nine = the = Phantom,” and “Izanami” appear as playable characters and three DLC characters from the console version—“Es” from the XBlaze series that shares the same worldview as Blazblue, “Mai Natsume” from the BlazeBlue spin-off manga, Remix Heart, and “Yuki Terumi,” the true form of “Susano’o”—-newly join to bring total 35 playable characters.

Introduction of New Systems

    • [Overdrive]
      • Each character can strengthen his/her unique ability for a certain time.
      • When [Overdrive] is triggered, the Overdrive icon changes its shape and a purple gauge is displayed.
      • This gauge will decrease over time and when it disappears, [Overdrive] is terminated.
      • [Overdrive] lasts longer if the character’s health is low and the round timer stops during activation
      • After using [Overdrive], the Overdrive icon shows a number counter. Overdrive can be used again when the number reaches 10.
      • The number increases over time or damage taken, but during [Active Flow], it increases much faster.
    • [Exceed Accel]
      • It is a very powerful attack that can be used during [Overdrive].
      • After it is used, [Overdrive] immediately ends.
      • When activated during [Active Flow], the damage and effects are boosted.
    • [Active Flow]
      • Fighting aggressively and landing attacks or using heat gauge etc. starts [Active Flow].
      • It enhances the fight power and shortens the [Overdrive] cool time etc. to make favorable fighting conditions.

Since the release of the Nintendo Switch back in March, Arc System Works has released a few titles on the console’s eShop. There are also plans for a BlazBlue title to be put onto the Switch, though whether this would be a new entry in the series or a pre-existing one remains to be seen.

In regards to the Switch, Redbull recently asked BlazBlue creator Toshimichi Mori if he could provide any update to the plans involving his series and the console. While Mori could not share any new information, he did say that, thanks to the introduction of Arms, he feels that “fighting games can definitely find a home on the Switch.”

Here is Mori’s full response:
“As far as announcements go, I unfortunately can’t say much today, but what I will say is that with the introduction of fun competitive games like Arms, I do believe fighting games can definitely find a home on the Switch. Stay tuned!”
