The Diablo is in the details. Blizzard Entertainment CEO Mike Morhaime brought up Diablo for consoles at DICE late yesterday. It's a subject that's received plenty of industry chatter, but the closest we'd previously gotten to it happening (since the 1998 release of the first Diablo for PlayStation) was a report late last year that the company was "exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles."

"I think you could make an argument that a game like Diablo might play very well on a console," the executive noted while discussing Blizzard's preference for PCs due to flexibility. "It's something that we're actually doing an investigation into to see if that could make sense."

He concluded that there are a "number of issues" that Blizzard would have to solve in order to bring its games over to consoles, with some of his concerns involving the ability to patch effectively and inevitably add expansions. Asked directly if he thought Diablo would be the Blizzard game that could most easily be ported for consoles, he nodded in the affirmative.

Yeeeeeeeeeeees!

If I want to play Diablo on consoles, I'll download Torchlight on XBLA

....Or buy Diablo... for a console?

As cool as Torchlight is, it's no Diablo.

Both Torchlight and Titan Quest improve upon the Diablo formula. e.g. No cluttered inventory needing you to jump back to town every 5 minutes in Torchlight and no constant need to buy portal scrolls in Titan Quest, no loading screens in Titan Quest, open planes into dungeon areas seamlessly. No loosing every item you have when you die. Many of these aspects were a chore than fun in Diablo. The only thing Torchlight is missing is CO-OP, which, will be added in Torchlight II and will be sold at a cheaper price than Diablo III. It's also worth noting that both Titan Quest and Torchlight had designers from Diablo working on it who aren't with Blizzard anymore, Titan Quest had the creator of Age Of Empires working on it. I don't really get why you would play it on a console anyway, a crappy notebook will probably run Diablo III.

They did that already!

Am I the only one who remembers Diablo for PS1? :p

What a bizarre title for a thread

Also, might rent it for PS3 or something. I thought the last one was kind of fun, what little I played it.

Though I'll probably have a new PC for gaming by the time Diablo III comes out, I think it's great they're porting it to consoles. Out of all of Blizzard's games, Diablo makes the most sense on game pad.
