Diablo III’s Necromancer beta is back from the dead

May 11, 2017 8 comments

The Necromancer beta for Diablo III was around for a short time, then swiftly died off and went quiet as Blizzard tinkered with various aspects of the class behind the scenes. The good news is that it’s back again with the results of that tinkering on full display, although the bad news is that you can take part in the beta only if you’re invited. Reanimating the fallen is a special art and not everyone is prepared for it, you see.
Those of you who were already bored by testing the class will be happy to know that the latest beta build has redesigned and altered several Necromancer skills along with introducing Legendary items for the class. There are also set bonuses to play around with, various bug fixes, and of course the simple joy of summoning skeletons to do your dirty work. Let’s see if the beta lasts a wee bit longer this time around.Read more

Diablo III turns out to have lore, summarizable in a minute

Confession time: I have spent an absurd amount of time in the Diablo universe over the years (ask me about that time a Best Buy dude was a jerk to me when I went in to buy Lord of Destruction because lol girls don’t play Diablo II! Grrr.).

And I’ve played a ton of Diablo III, though I usually stop short of obsessive grinding. But I couldn’t really tell you the details of the lore. Playing ARPGs for the lore is really not what I do.

That’s what makes the LORE YouTube video on Diablo III’s lore so illuminating. I have played through this game half a dozen times and couldn’t have narrated this mess of a storyline. As the video itself notes, everybody’s clicking through the dialogue to get back to the game!
The LORE channel is pretty damn amusing overall; the channel’s done clips for World of Warcraft and Elder Scrolls Online too. Check it out below:

Take a look at Diablo III’s Necromancer class cinematic intro video

May 31, 2017 4 comments

Ever since last year’s BlizzCon when Blizzard announced the Rise of the Necromancer pack for Diablo III, we’ve known the classic class was coming to the game. In fact, we’ve been watching it through the beta all spring.

We still don’t know when it’s launching or how much it’ll cost (although we do know the pack won’t be free — the vast majority our readers guess it’ll be in the $10-$20 range, but we’ll see).

But today, we do get a glimpse into the marketing side of things as Blizzard has released the cinematic intro video for the male Necro. Enjoy!

Diablo III players on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will apparently be able to avail themselves of an all-new bundle option.

The ESRB has posted an entry under the “Diablo III: Eternal Collection” header that suggests the new package will include the base game, the Reaper of Souls expansion, and the upcoming Rise of the Necromancer DLC, which itself includes the Necro class, minipet, wings, two character slots, stash tabs, a portrait, and a banner.

Release dates and pricing aren’t yet known, but Blizzard has been rolling out teasers with more frequency so far this spring, so we’re betting it’s not far off now.Read more

Diablo III previews the lore of the Necromancer and new patch 2.6 areas

June 26, 2017 4 comments

You may well not need the lore behind Diablo III’s Necromancer to enjoy the class. All you need to know is that it’s a class that revolves around dealing with the dead or dying, and since dead-or-dying organisms make up 90% of the population in any Diablo game, it’s kind of a given that you’ll have plenty to do. But if you do want that lore, you can find out all about what makes the Necromancer unique right here, whether you’re an old fan of the class from its original appearance or just love the idea of making corpses explode now.

Of course, the new areas coming with patch 2.6 will be relevant even if you’re not going to be getting on the corpse-exploding train, so you probably will want to read up on those and watch the video just below the cut.

Players will be visiting the Shrouded Moors, the Temple of the Firstborn, and the ever-changing Realms of Fate. Of course, if you’re eager to play a Necromancer and explore the new areas, you’re in a perfect state.

Diablo III is testing item changes and no XP support for its next patch

August 16, 2017 4 comments

Look, we realize that you can’t really test for abandoning Windows Vista and Windows XP support for Diablo III patch 2.6.1.

But that change is coming for this patch, and it’s noted right at the start of the patch notes. The patch is also bringing a huge pile of new item changes, including changed drop rates, changed set effects, and changed abilities on individual items.

If you have a spreadsheet for comparing the values of your various class armor sets, said spreadsheet will get more complicated on the test realm.Read more

Diablo III seeks smoothness and balance with Patch 2.6.1

September 14,2017 11 comments

It may not be as sexy as a new expansion or class, but sometimes it’s a worthwhile thing for developers to sit down with a determination to polish and shine a game until it feels and plays better better than before.

This is the two-part goal of Diablo III’s Patch 2.6.1 according to the devs: “We wanted each class to have multiple builds with different styles that can play in similar difficulties. […] Secondly, we want to smooth out the overall endgame experience. This means making sure each build plays well in high-density situations and group play.”

To accomplish these tasks, the devs are buffing up some neglected skills and evaluating a whole bunch of player feedback. Some of the specific tune-ups include the Barbarian’s Whirlwind build,Read more

Blizz Looking to Hire Production Director with 'Massive Multiplayer Game Dev Experience'

Posted Oct 03, 2017| 32 Comments

We already know that Blizzard has no plans to make any significant (or any at all) announcements at this year's Blizzcon with regard to the Diablo franchise. However, a new posting on the site for a Production Director has caught our eye.

The job looks for a candidate "to bring the Diablo franchise into the future". While the usual requirements for the job are fairly standard, the "Pluses" section is what has caught our eye.Read more

hmmm......I wouldn't want Diablo to go full online MMO. if they want to include that as a separate mode in the next game, or as a separate spin-off game, then fine. but I like that I can enjoy Diablo 3 as a solo, single player dungeon crawler game.

I wouldn't mind if they introduced some kind of character creation/customization in the next game, though.

I think the next game is going to take a lot of cues from games like Destiny.

^^ hmmm......I hope not......lol.

but as long as it retains a strong single player story campaign, then I won't mind if it adds some MMO multiplayer elements.

Diablo III Returns To The Darkening Of Tristram. December 29, 2017 . 10:00am

The Darkening of Tristram event will return in Diablo III between January 1-30, 2018.

8 comments Read >

Blizzard
is bringing back Diablo III’s Anniversary Dungeon. The Darkening of Tristram event will be back for the second year in a row on January 1, 2018 and run until January 30, 2018. This temporary event is a tribute to the original Diablo. Once someone enters the dungeon, the UI changes, a pixelated rendering effect alters the appearance of the game, the characters and monsters will move differently, and the frame rate will drop to about 30FPS.

People who wish to participate in The Darkening of Tristram will need to be playing in Adventure Mode and head to The Old Ruins of Tristram. A portal can be next to a fountain and will take you to a 16 level dungeon. There are unique monsters calling back to original Diablo enemies, The Butcher’s Cleaver and Wirt’s Leg Transmogrification weapons to earn, and The Butcher and Royal Calf pets to unlock. You even get a Red Soul Shard for getting through the dungeon, acting as a callback to the original game’s Soulstone. You can even earn event-specific achievements.

Diablo III is available for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. The Darkening of Tristram event takes place in the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions of the game.

Announcement reportedly "several months off."

Blizzard is developing a Switch version of Diablo III, according to sources of Eurogamer.

Last week, the developer posted a short video on Twitter that led to speculation of a Switch port, but an official response from the studio said that, “As of now, we do not have any current plans to announce Diablo for Switch.”

Despite this, Eurogamer claims the project is “very much in production,” but that its sources would not confirm whether the game’s “Reaper of Souls” and “Rise of the Necromancer” expansions will be included.

According to Eurogamer, the Switch port announcement is currently “several months off.”

Greetings heroes, I am community manager Brandy Camel, also known as Nevalistis.
On behalf of the Diablo team, welcome back to Sanctuary for our newest season. For those of you still rocking your heroes in Reaper of Souls, you might have noticed we did something a little bit different for Season 14: Themed Seasons.
The Season of Greed is our first Themed Season and we plan to explore additional themes in the future. If you like to know more, click the link in the video description below.
We’d also like to let you know that the forges here at Blizzard are burning hot. And we have multiple Diablo projects in the works. Some of them are going to take longer than others. But… we may have some things to show you later this year.
We hope you stay tuned, while we work to bring these Diablo experiences to life. None of this would be possible without the support that you have shown us for over 20 years.
So whether you first joined us in Diablo III or you are a seasoned veteran, thank you. Diablo is, and always will be, part of Blizzard’s identity, and we can’t wait for the future.

Diablo III Eternal Collection for Switch launches November 2
Published 7 hours ago. 9 comments.

Action RPG dated for Switch.

Diablo-3-Switch_09-13-18.jpg

The August-announced Switch version of Diablo III Eternal Collection will launch on November 2 for $59.99, Blizzard Entertainment announced.

Here is an overview of the game, via Blizzard Entertainment:

Endlessly playable and continually evolving, Diablo III provides a lifetime of challenge and adventure, and the Eternal Collection includes the multitude of features, refinements, and updates that have been added to the game to date. On top of fighting through an epic story campaign that spans the High Heavens, the Burning Hells, and beyond, players can earn bountiful rewards in Adventure Mode, a never-ending onslaught of activity with constantly shifting objectives across all of the game’s locales. Diablo III Eternal Collection also includes Seasons, a recurring game mode that encourages players to create fresh characters, earn exclusive Seasonal rewards, and crush hordes of demons to earn spots on their region’s leaderboards.

“The gates of Hell will soon be opening once again, and we couldn’t be more excited to have Nintendo Switch players joining the battle,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “Whether they’re bravely diving in alone or teaming up with friends, Sanctuary’s newest heroes are in store for endless adventuring—and endless loot—when Diablo III Eternal Collection launches on November 2.”

Diablo III Eternal Collection has been forged to take advantage of the Nintendo Switch System’s flexibility and versatility, whether players are using the Joy-Con controller or a Pro Controller. And true to Diablo’s spirit, players will have a wealth of options when it comes to cleansing Sanctuary cooperatively—parties of up to four can play together, either by sharing a screen on a single Nintendo Switch, linking their consoles together wirelessly, or connecting through the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service.

Diablo III is the fastest-selling PC game of all time.* The Reaper of Soulsexpansion introduced the mighty Crusader class, the infinitely-replayable Adventure Mode, and a host of other game-defining features, like the random loot-filled Nephalem Rift dungeons. In 2017, Rise of the Necromancer resurrected the fan-favorite Necromancer class from Diablo II, bolstering players’ forces with the gruesome powers of blood and bone. All of this is included in Diablo III Eternal Edition for the Nintendo Switch, on top of platform-exclusive bonus items, like Ganondorf’s cosmetic armor set, inspired by the iconic villain from The Legend of Zelda series.
