“Better Call Saul” star Bob Odenkirk will produce and star in the action thriller “Nobody” for STXfilms.

Odenkirk will produce with producing partner Marc Provissiero through their Odenkirk-Provissiero along with Braden Aftergood.

Derek Kolstad, who wrote “John Wick,” is attached to write the screenplay about an ordinary man who comes to the defense of a woman being harassed by thugs, then learns later that one of the thugs is the brother of a drug kingpin and is out for vengeance.

Executive producers on the project are Kolstad, “Deadpool 2” director David Leitch, Chad Stahelski and Kelly McCormick of 87eleven. STX’s’Drew Simon and Kate Vorhoff will oversee production.
So Saul Goodman accidentally wanders into the John Wick universe... the poor bastard.

This is a really cool idea. Unlike Atomic Blonde which while cool was really seen-this-all-before, the notion of a totally random guy with no skills finding himself in a hardboiled action-flick situation feels really fresh.

Especially he's being played by Bob of all people, not like the old "we're supposed to buy Arnold as a suburban everyman" days, haha.

It really is. I can't to see this because it's going to be a trip seeing him play quite a different character compared to his past work.

Sounds really interesting and I'm already loving this cast . Bob Odenkirk is definitely a guy with a lot of range, so it should be intriguing to see how he pulls off this role.

Based on that interview, I think Odenkirk’s character is a former hitman.

Interesting to hear he’s been training for the film.

Yeah this is going to be a trip, just saw the trailer.

Saw the Redband trailer and yeah this looks all kinds of awesome. I'm definitely getting vibes of John Wick and A History of Violence which is definitely not a bad thing, because I love those movies.

Also, its always great seeing Christopher Lloyd in films these days.

Looks like it will be fun but very derivative of John Wick.

This looks great. The “History of Violence meets John Wick” comparison is very apt, although I would also throw in “The Long Kiss Goodnight”, with the angle of the retired professional killer having settled down with a family and certain circumstances having him reveal his true nature to them and protect them, minus the amnesia.

Just a small thing, but I love the fixed POV camera angle of the gun landing in his hand. Always cool to see action filmmakers experimenting with that kind of stuff and trying new things.

Also, if this ended up being a stealth spinoff of the John Wick film universe, I would not be one bit shocked. :D

This looks good. Yes, it's a storyline that we've seen before a bunch of times, but then again most action movies have a storyline that we've seen before. Some action movies that try to be a bit too clever, aren't always as east to enjoy ( IMO Tenet danced that line).

In contrast, some of the most enjoyable movies are familiar plots repackaged in an interesting way.

What IMO it really comes down to are the characters. You can have all the best stunts and jaw dropping effects , but if the audience doesn't care about the characters, the film is forgettable.

IMO the best action films have 3 essential elements:
- a hero we can relate to and cheer for.
- some pretty outrageous stunts....but not so much that we shake our heads in disbelief.
- a memorable and engaging villain, the best villains are the ones we can actual like because they're charming or funny or just impressive. Alan Rickman elevated playing villains to an artform, and was criminally underused in the Potter films.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this film.
