Bohemian Rhapsody

I was under the impression this was a Mercury bio pic originally.

Ok and yes it seems to still be very much about him. Obviously. But we definitely get to see a lot about the band in general as well. The trailer pretty clearly shows that.

Massive Queen fan. But I’m slightly confused, is this meant to be a biopic for Mercury? It looked more like one for the whole band.

Apparently Baron Cohen bailed on playing Freddy because the band wanted the second half of the movie to be about the rest of the band post-Freddy. Which is insane of them to think that's a good idea.

We don't really know what the new version is, but I doubt it's that cut-and-dry that he dies halfway, they probably tempered that some. Freddy'll be the main lead, but sure the other guys are still demanding some focus too. I'm pretty confident in Singer in terms of balancing that though, if he has weaknesses as a director ensemble stuff wouldn't be one of them. Freddy'll be the Wolverine/Keyser Soze, but it won't be solely about him alone with the other guys pure background.

Why I heard SBC bailed was he wanted to make a balls out Freddy Mervury R-rated film. The good and the bad. The band wanted more sanitized version of Mercury's tumultuous life. In real life, Mercury wasn’t really the nicest guy.

Interesting, I hadn't heard the R rated thing. The stuff I saw said he disagreed with the movie continuing on for a significant time and showing Queen life after Freddie, and that yeah - they only wanted to show the good stuff and not really get into the partying and hedonism. But I don't know that Sacha would have been demanding some all-out hard-R in general thing, and that wouldn't be his call anyway. Pretty sure the studio would want this out to as wide an audience as possible.

He talks about it here and specifically wanting to go all out on Freddy’s sex life.

As far as music biopics go, I imagine this'll be more like The Doors, which had a large focus on Jim Morrison and less so on the other members of the band even though they were very much present throughout the film.

Saw the teaser and the trailer and I got chills, it looks epic. The only thing I don't understand is why they didn't give him brown contacts.

Those pants should be tighter boy. :D

Man, this looks awesome! And I am confident that it will be as well. Can't wait. :yay:

I gotta say anyone who hasn't watched the Live Aid gig Queen did for a while should refresh themselves with it. Amazing performance.

I've lost count of how many times I've watched it.

They only did 6 songs and were only on stage for 20 mins (as opposed to something like the 3 hour sets that the likes of Bruce Springsteen does at a full concert), but Freddie held the audience in the palm of his hand and it remains one of the greatest live performances ever.

Queen were on a very slightly downward trajectory at the time in terms of popularity after their highs in the 70s and early 80s, but between this performance and their musical contributions to the Highlander movie the following year, they were reinvigorated.

My only question regarding the movie: are Rami and company singing the songs themselves or are they being dubbed over with the original pieces by Freddy and company?

Sometimes contacts mess with actors' eyes. Daniel Radcliffe didn't wear colored contacts as Harry Potter because they hurt his eyes or something.

From what I've heard it's gonna be a mixture of Ramis actual voice, Marc Martell, the Freddie impersonator and actual Freddie's voice.

Man this movie looks brilliant! I hope it doesn't disappoint!

I can barely contain my excitement.

It looks like a blast. I’m not always really into musical biopic type movies but this looks fun.

Randomly caught 5 minutes of Night At The Museum the other night, haha, forgot Malek was the Egyptian prince dude in that.

So Brian May tweeted about this today. I was never really expecting it to not have his support given he was in the team behind the film, but nonetheless, encouraging.

Haha, yeah, weren't the band all exec producers on this? What's he gonna say?

That being said, the movie does seem really impressive from everything shown so far, so he's unlikely lying.

I do appreciate Fox for not ramping up the Oscar press yet. I feel like A Star Is Born, Widows and a few others are starting so early that they'll be forgotten by November.

Widows maybe, but A Star Is Born ain't going anywhere.

The venue is part of the same complex as Wembley Stadium, where Queen famously played to 72,000 as part of 1985's Live Aid concert. Bohemian Rhapsody, the upcoming biopic about the rise of the rock band Queen and its legendary lead singer Freddie Mercury, is to world premiere at – almost – the same venue as arguably their most famous live performance.
