Bonds only 4 Home Runs away from Ruth

Ruth did it on Jack Daniels. Based on that fact alone, he'll always be the King.

:D

But this makes one think how good Ruth would've been had he access to the healthcare and work out equipment of today. (assuming he did actually use them instead of gorging on the alcohols of today)

I wish Baseball would wipe all records obtained between 1995 and 2006, because almost everyone of them were obtained through drug use. I know that isn't going to happen, but how those records were obtained brings shame to baseball as far as I'm concerned.

Once in a lifetime opportunities must happen to everybody, but I wish it would happen to me in terms of lottery.

Despite what the media would have you believe it's not like he just injects steroids and sits around waiting for it to kick in. He still has to work-out.

And on another note, explain how steroids would give him a better eye for the ball when batting?

I'm a body builder. I know precisely what steroids does and how. I've seen plenty of guys on it, who achieved great results that left the rest of us 'natural' builders in the dust. But it's cheating, plain and simple. While steroids do still require muscle use in order to build, you do not have to work out as hard, and you certainly cannot achieve the same results in muscle growth WITHOUT steroids, period. Don't sit here and claim otherwise. There's a reason why people use steroids. It's for the immediate gratification of building mass WITHOUT all of the time-consuming effort and pain.

And no one is trying to say it gives him better balance or perspective in order to hit the ball. That's the TALENT that got him into the major leagues in the first place. There's no need to enhance that. But smacking the ball hard enough consistently requires POWER - not talent. And that POWER is precisely what he forged through the use of ILLEGAL drugs. And that power, derived from the illegal use of muscle enhancing drugs, is what put him in the record books.

I can't believe you're defending it.

Wont happen, and youre generalizing. Oh every guy who broke a record mustve been on steroids. You cant prove it now, its too late.

Great explanation - I've also been training for years, and without a doubt his steroid use allowed his usual "fly-outs" to become homeruns because of a huge increase in power and bat-speed.

Records are made to be broken, sure, but not by this clown.

You must have missed the word, "almost".

The fact that so many players are on steroids and that is a safe generalization based on the testimonies of the players themselves, any record that is broken is meaningless as far as I'm concerned and it is going to hurt baseball.

I used to watch the sport whenever I could, but now I don't even take the time to look up scores in the newspaper. I suspect there are more people with my viewpoint than those who disagree.

Well I know alot of people are critizing Bonds over possible using steriods but I just believe you shouldnt pick on one person half of the players today take steriods.

I think Bond will break it but I think he should quit after that. Really I think Bonds should just tie with Ruth and leave it as that to pass him I think will be cheap.

Really? Do you have proof?

You don't get a 35 year old man suddenly gaining 40 lbs of muscle over fall and winter and suddenly playing like he's ten years younger, especially since his prior record was very respectable, but not spectacularly outstanding just by coincidence.

He's also admitted to using cream and clear, but didn't admit that he knew they were steroids.

Yeah and how many of them are set on beating an almost century record?

According to the Senate Testimonies, it might as well be everybody.

Dont dodge the question, you know that saying that more than half the baseball players take steroids is a gross misgeneralization.

wow, a musclebound/hugeheaded/chemically enhanced freak is going to do the same thing a chubby guy could do like half a century ago.

suuuuuuuuure must take talent!

Do we know the actual percentages of baseball players that are juiced?

No.

However, that doesn't remove the fact that the only way to fix the problem, is a wholesale cleansing. Anything less is going to fail.

Than the Sith is right.

A record that was established by a steroid user, needs to be wiped away in order to save the integrity of the game.

Thats not what youre saying, youre saying all records within a specific time period should.

Since we know that steroids were a problem from the mid-nineties, it's a good place to start and would get the clear majority of all records that were achieved through drug use.
