John Boorman is attached to direct the $25 million, CG-animated pic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

The adaptation of L. Frank Baum's original novel will be Boorman's first animated film.

Produced by Laurent Rodon and Claude Gorvsky at France's Films Actions and John Boorman's longtime associate Kieran Corrigan, and currently in pre-production, "Oz" is written by Boorman, Ron Mita and Jim McClain (Robots).

The film is scheduled for a summer 2010 release.

The English-language adaptation maintains the tale's main characters and settings. Unlike the MGM classic, however, it's not a musical.

Sounds interesting, i have always wanted to see another adaptation of the story.

Okay I was for a remake of wizard of oz but not as a 25 million dollar CG film :down

I was hoping they'd go with a 100+ million dollar live-action films and make it a huge fantasy epic. Can't say Im interested about this idea :down

Animated film? No thanks. :down

The only way I see a remake working if it was a Live-Action Fantasy film directed by Tim Burton or Del Toro.

Agreed that is should be in live action, but I would not pick either of them to direct. Thier aesthetic is so strong that I think it would overpower the story. What I would love to see is an Oz that really mirrors the original illustrations.

Beautiful and bright.

Number one: Why is this an all CG pic?

Number two: Don't they realize how much potential they have in doing a giant live action version of the original Baum book?

I've never even heard of this guy.

I really hope they decide to scrap the CGI idea. It's time for a live-action version that is faithful to the book.

Return to Oz was great IMO but it failed because it was creepy as hell. As a kid I had nightmares for weeks after seeing it about the roller guys and all the people turned into statues. I like it now, but if they do Oz it needs to be a little more LOTRish in terms of scary. Have the big scary scenes, but don't make them so creepy you're going to frighten away a generation of youngsters.

I do like a lot of the art direction for Return to Oz. The Lion, Scarecrow, and TinMan all look like thier illustrations, and Dorthy is actually played by a child.

Yep this

Return To Oz was a good film but audiences expected the happy singing Wizard Of Oz and instead they got creepy Oz that traumatised children durning Disney's Dark phase which was awesome btw.
