Compared to what Lewis Carroll wrote, yes, it was. Because it was absolutely nothing like the books whatsoever. And that is simply a fact.

The books were pretty much nonsensical, and Burton kept to the basic plot of the books and Disney's cartoon movie.

Yeah, I didn't hate it. He could have gone the American McGee route and made Alice a mental patient and the Red Queen the twisted part of her psyche that blames herself for surviving the fire that killed her parents. *Sigh* I really loved that game. A pity he didn't try the same with Oz.

....I once use to say that there were five movies that would never, ever be remade. They were too iconic, too sacred to touch.

Those movies were: Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Gone With the Wind, The Godfather, and THE WIZARD OF MOTHER ****IN OZ!!!!!!!!!!

They are using the exact same script from the 1939 film? My love for humanity just faded a little bit. This is terribly sad news.

That's the problem I have with the project. Making a new adaptation of the book Wizard of Oz I have absolutely no problem with. In fact, I would like to see a faithful adaptation of the book hopefully someday. But yeah, using the script for the 1939 musical? WTF?

They will never top the 1939 film. It is a classic that has stood the test of time as one of the greatest cinematic achievements. No technicolor? No Judy Garland? No Depression context? No golden Hollywood style? No thanks.

Adapt the book(s)? Sure. Adapt Wicked? Go for it. By why remake one o the most important films in Hollywood's history that every generation still enjoys? It makes no sense, in my opinion.

Why don't they just do an original Oz story? It's not like they have to pay royalties for it.
