I grew up off of 98th Ave, near the coliseum. I think I may have passed through the nice part of Oakland once or twice. She could be staying in the nice part of Oakland? We only have armed robberies once every few days on this side of town!
Let's see...
Logan mentioned that her roomies are all a bunch of art school types, so they might be going to the College of Arts in Oakland. Or maybe they're just going to Laney. Who knows. Anyway, they're living in a freaking warehouse, but the only warehouse-type area I can think of near there would be along the 880 freeway, a little bit before 7th St. before you reach West Oakland, if you're heading Northbound. That's a fairly decent part of Oakland, right?
If it's a psychological thing, I'm not bothered. Hell, I'm the guy asking for Dani Moonstar to get her powers back. But if Cyclops resorts to cruel and unusual physical torture, I'm heading to Marvel's office in NYC and cracking skulls. He was definitely speaking figuratively about the light show, 'cause he says right in the next sentence that the guy was hurt no more than he would be in a regular acupuncture clinic. The Purifier/Church of Humanity Member/whateverthehellbigotofthemonth shrieked because he fears needles and think that they're hurting him much more than they actually are, which is what people who fear needles tend to think.
I'm not defending the situation, I'm just making the situation perfectly clear. It's a question of whether you think psychological torture is equatable with physical torture. And keep in mind that superheroes dangle people over heights all the time, often to illicit information, and that literally every single telepathic hero in comics make a habit of projecting worst fears into their enemies' minds whether they want it there or not. For dozens of telepaths, it's their primary ability.
