Bought/Thought January 21, 2009 - SPOILERS

But what W25 says it true, it's a bought/thought thread spoilers are part of the reason for the thread to exist.

I just HATE this scummy attitude. Few things on message board piss me off more than a mindset as lazy and utterly selfish as this. I don't even care about the X-Factor spoilers - I don't read it - but people like yourself have spoiled plenty of others things for me in the past. For all the time it takes to do this: [BLACKOUT]about two seconds[/BLACKOUT], you think you'd at least be considerate of other posters.

Rant over. Sorry folks.
He has a point, though. This thread is and has always been about people's thoughts on comics that have come out this week, which indicates spoilers.

But I see your point as well, so from now on I'd appreciate it if people could explicitly put "spoilers" in the title of the B/T threads. We used to do it before but I guess it became common knowledge to expect spoilers in B/T threads, so we stopped. I've already changed this thread's title to include it.

*Shrug* Oh wells. I didn't see any such plea, and it's probably already on Wikipedia by now.
Very first page.

I'd have to agree. I have my own personal lists of books that i buy, but I often come here to find out (thru spoilers) what i missed and if the spoiler sounds good, I often go back out and buy that book. Reading a spoiler tag doesn't even come close to seeing it with your own eyes. So although I understand the writer's plea, many of us out there are pretty selective and the ONLY way for us to know what we are missing is to read these tags.

That's why we've been using spoiler tags instead of avoiding telling spoilers altogether like Peter David wanted. If you want spoilers, there they are. In fact, my review completely disregarded his request not to give a blow-by-blow.

Black Panther, i think.
Indeed, and speaking of Black Panther, I can't wait for that new series.

Also, I'll be writing my review on the issues I got tommorow. I just completely forgot to write my review these past 2 weeks.

I liked Uncanny X-Men Annual #2. I didn't get into Acuna's glossy art, but I dug Breitweiser's sketchier (to me) art. It's a fun story that uses Namor and The Hellfire Club to a nice effect. Fun Tony Stark appearance as well. Emma is pretty awesome.

Dark Avengers #1 is a nice set-up issue. Good read, but kinda basic in structure. Nothing much to add except, does it weird anyone else out that Deodato draws Norman Osborn to look like Tommy Lee Jones? How many times has he been used as a reference for a character design?

Another great issue of Green Lantern, #37 continues to stoke my salivation for The Blackest Night. The cliffhanger is amazing. Some of the splashes made me want to buy another copy, cut them out and hang them as mini-posters. (I thank you, Ivan.) Sad about Laira though.

Thunderbolts #128 is the first issue of this series that I have purchased besides the House of M tie-in. I am thoroughly impressed. After all the hoopla surrounding Obama's appearance in ASM, this is the one that people should have bought. The pow-wow amongst Obama, Osborn and Samson was well-done. Yes, only a few of cover members were utilized for this ish, but their use was satisfying. That cover is awesome. Mattina wins.

X-Factor #39. Holy Crap. I spoiled it for myself by flipping through it before I read it. Still, the images aren't nearly as horrifying until the the issue is read in full. I'm very interested to see the fallout from the events in this issue.

Secondary note on this ish: I like to see reactions to new issues before I buy them, but I stay away from spoilers. I know enough about reading reviews to know what and what not to read, so I know that it isn't a hard endeavor. I appreciated the "personal plea" from Peter David and I, for one, will acquiesce to his request. As pointless as my stance may be, some need to meet the creators half-way.
Manic, what the hell are you doing? You post a review that gives a detailed summary of the stories events in spoiler tags and then school another poster for not reading the recap page before posting a spoiler. I can't fathom the logic you use to allow you to post that review.

Like I said, I'm meeting Peter David half-way. I went into a spoiler-heavy thread, warned people not to read the spoilers, and still put up spoiler tags. I'm not going to not spoil a comic in a review.

I didn't all-out ignore the plea.

I'm new to the Green Lantern stuff, but I'm glad I got into the "Rage of the Red Lanterns" and this issue in particular. Loved the art and can't for the arc to conclude and then, of course, "Blackest Night" :woot:

Just wanted to apologise for yesterday's angry outburst. If these bought/thought threads are specifically intended to be heavily spoilerific, then that's my mistake in not frequenting them enough. It's just that whole "I'm not bothering to use spoiler tags" attitude really riles me up when it's popped up elsewhere. I've had many a lengthy argument about it over on the Dark Knight spoiler boards, amongst other places. But sorry again if I came across as abusive.

It's not your fault for not knowing. Many of us are used to the B/T threads but new people are coming and going from the Hype all the time. That's why I've asked that future B/T threads have an explicit spoiler warning in the title.

Fired.

:thing: :doom: :thing:

This is the bought/thought thread, this thread ALWAYS has spoilers. I am NOT blocking out spoilers in a spoiler-laden thread! If someone reads without their understanding that's their tough luck.

I agree with Keyser Soze...

I still don't understand why can't we spoiler tag major revelations. There are people waiting for the trade for certain titles, yet reading others monthly. Or decide to pick it up later, hearing there some cool stuff in it. Or just simply not managing to get them in time. I don't know why should someone be discouraged to come into a BT thread to ***** about Osborn sexing up their mother in the latest Spiderman, and trying to avoid information about Multiple Man
going Blob on his own child, cannibalizing him.

I finally read the Obama issue of Spider-Man, and just have to say that it's too bad that the single worst, most boring issue after Brand New Day had to be that one. What a waste of an opportunity by Marvel to get new reader interest with all the people begging to get a copy, and that's all they can do with it.

BTW, can anyone tell me what the comic shop ratio of the first print was? My comic shop told me it was 1/100...but, there are waaay too many prints of it on ebay to make me believe that could be the case.

About the spoiler issue, all I can say is this when I visit the Bought/Thought thread. I never get a chance to read all my comics on time on a weekly basis; but, I love to see what other people thought of comics I have read. Thus, if I see someone reviewing a comic I haven't read, I skip it. Seeing the title is enough to let me know to avoid it. What does spoil it for me at times is when people just blurt out a spoiler in general conversation on the thread. (Luckily, when I read this issue on Sunday, I hadn't seen any of the spoilers, because it really would have ruined the effectiveness of that scene.)

I have to assume if they'd let Slott do the Obama issue it would have been 22 pages of like, Obama whipping off his suit to fight crime at Spidey's side as the mighty Hope-Man!

Which is to say, everything it should have been.

well i enjoyed the book, especially the last few pages with Peter and Betty, and i was happy it wasnt about Obama. but i do agree it wasn't an issue they should have tried to use to bring in new readers.

Are you talking about the actual Obama story or the main Peter/Betty story?

I'd have broken my BND prohibition to buy that.
