BOUGHT/THOUGHT June 6, 2007

I didn't mean to sound pretentious or elitist, although I'm sure it comes off that way. Again, I'm not saying "Read the books I read, because they're the best!" I just wonder why a classic Spider-Man/Superman fan can't be bothered with Invincible. It's like a hump that some people are able to get over and some can't.

I like to describe Invincible as a mix between 60's style written Marvel Comics with a 21st century grit to it.

It's got amazing continuity with some balls attached to it.

:yay:

The continuity really is astounding. So much happens in one little book. It's like if the entire Marvel Universe was condensed into one title.

You're right... I'm going to change my description and you can edit your post to reflect that.

Um, yeah.

It is, but I seriously have to wonder how far he's pushing the law's limits. I mean, a bloodied, gutted Bush is on the cover.

Why would it be "illegal"?

Isn't there a freedom of arts, or speech, or anything that allows one to voice an opinion that might not be popular, and still be protected by law in the US of A anymore?

:csad:

Yeah, but when it comes to the President, these type of things are usually taken pretty seriously as "threats". I'm sure if Ellis stays overseas he'll avoid any black bagging that might take place.

So many people running it and all their priorities are still so out-of-whack? That's actually...less flattering than if it were just one person at the helm.

Dude. More than fifteen people are in SHIELD.

IIRC, specifically threatening the life of the President has never been held to be protected speech. For that matter, fighting words in general I think are held apart as a category - you can't go up to someone and be like "So hey, I'm gonna break into your house and murder you in your sleep," or similar, and then tell the police you were just exercising your First Amendment rights.

I'll grant as there's a space between a story about murdering the current President of the United States, and a specific threat to murder the President of the United States, but this does seem to be toeing that line just about as hard as it can be be toed.

...Just so it's clear, this is by no means coming from any particularly pro-Bush viewpoint. I'm not questioning whether Warren Ellis is justified in his criticism of the president, just whether his criticism is crossing the line into being a federal offense.

Exactly. I never said it was illegal, either. Just that I wondered how far Ellis is pushing it.

Well, having somebody come in and violently murder the President is about as far as you can push it without having KILL THE PRESIDENT on the last page in big black letters.

In the end, it really is just a comic book that no one will read. Then again, that's never stopped King George before....

But dude, If someone made a comic about bruatally killing the queen of England, and released it in England, I garantee that person would be in some deep ****.

Is today illiterate day?

If there was an "emoticon" for beating my head into the wall...I'd use it here.

Here ya go.

Wow, I didn't realize Monstro was the fireman from Amazing Fantasy 15. Go figger.
