Box Office 2018

I doubt something can beat Avengers: Infinity War.

I doubt something can beat Avengers: Infinity War.

I think it'll be pretty safe at the top. Had it come out last year and The Last Jedi was still on the horizon it would have been a tough call but at this point Infinity War has 2018 all to itself. It makes perfect sense, though. Everyone knew it was going to be the biggest movie of the year.

And TLJ's overseas take was in the end so small relative to what IW is doing that they're not going to finish anywhere close. But last year before TLJ came out we couldn't have been so sure.

Wow, Star Wars is really dead in China. Solo makes just a little over $7 million in the two first days. So it looks like it will barely make it past $10 million for the entire weekend.

I wonder if Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom can make as much money as the previous one.

I don't think it will. The trailers have underwhelmed me and the first one set the bar so high that I don't think it has a chance of hitting that number. That said, it doesn't need to make that same amount to still be a huge hit.

Yeah I believe it will make 1 billion easy.

A freaking Star wars movie probably won't make more than Detective Chinatown!.. Now that's just unfathomable! Lol.

I think it's getting harder and harder to predict the top 10, especially when you have all these Chinese films holding their own against Hollywood at the box office. But I'll try...

1) Inifinity War
2) Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
3) Black Panther
4) Incredibles 2
5) Solo: A Star Wars Story
6) Fantastic Beasts 2
7) Deadpool 2
8) Aquaman
9) Antman & the Wasp
10) Mission Impossible

Well my list is starting to look rather bad. Solo is bombing, no way it ends up at #5. Be lucky if it even cracks the top 10. And Deadpool 2 is having terrible holds, I can
See A&W and Aquaman out performing it.

Revised list

1)Infinity War (easily stays #1)

2)Black Panther (breakout hit; don't see JWFK surpassing it)

3)Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (Overseas should be massive)

4)Incredibles 2 (animated family film; anticipated sequel)

5)Fantastic Beasts 2 (Should match the first film thanks to overseas)

6)Aquaman (good release + holiday + James Wan)

7)Antman & the Wasp (MCU momentum, can even see it surpassing Aquaman)

8)Deadpool 2 (won't match the first fim; holds aren't strong enough)

9)Mission Impossible (end up in the 650-700M range like it's predecessors)

10)Toss up between Solo, Wreck it Ralph 2, and Venom. I'm unsure if any of those films can beat Ready Player One though (580M world wide).

World Cup didn't stop Transformers from doing $1 billion in 2014. If Jurassic World can't top that movie at least I'd be very surprised.

What does everyone think Solo will end up making WW ?

Can it limp to $500m ?

In the 400-450M range in my view. It had a 65M opening overseas (in 90% of movie markets). That's terrible! It bombed hard in Asian and Latin American countries, and serverly underperformed in Europe. With Jurassic World coming out in less than 2 weeks, it's over for Solo overseas..
