Box office discussion

Feels like the Summer season is really going to kick off now with MI & Lilo and Stitch arriving this week.

I watched Mission Impossible/Final Destination last Saturday and both theaters were packed!

Not an awful hold for Thunderbolts. Hoping WOM keeps it alive long enough for Marvel to possibly take away the correct lessons from it.
Marvel isn’t going to take any positive lessons from, Thunderbolts unless it reaches profitability.
We are not there yet.

The movie was a gamble. It was obvious it wasn't gonna be some box office juggernaut.

The good news is the movie didn't suck and didn't perform terribly as Captain Marvel. Its also outgrossing some Mcu films (domestically and worldwide). So it wasn't by default become the lowest or 2nd lowest Mcu film ever. Though adjusted for inflation, that's the probably the case.

Lets just hope MCU doesn't greenlit Champions and Young Avengers.

Things certainly looks better on the domestic side after a strong April and May:

Percentage wise ,how much behind 2023?
6,6 % according to Box Office Mojo. So it´s not a gigantic gap. But it remains to see if the rest of summer, to start with, can keep up with 2023 when there were Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in June and the Barbenheimer phenomena in July. On the other hand the end of 2025 should be stronger than 2023 with Avatar 3, Zootopia 2 and Wicked 2

I feel like there should be a yearly increase now. By the end of the year, it should be over 2003 to 2008's 9 billion domestic annual total (excluding 2005).

I wonder if the box office totals would ever reach the 10 million mark again - like 2009 to 2019, and peaked in 2018 with 11.89 billion.

After the July movies, the only huge movies I can see are Wicked 2, Zootopia 2 and Avatar 3. Most of Avatar's numbers would count to 2026, and I don't see Wicked 2 outgrossing its predecessor.
