Box office discussion

Captain America Brave New World looks like a massive hit compare to Snow White's opening.

I was going to see Snow White Maybe, go with some friends. But we have all
Lost our enthusiasm for that.
And we all went together to see Mufasa on Christmas Day.

Does anyone know or have suggestions behind the global downfall at the box office. For years I just put it down to Covid and things would improve after this, but the 'you can stream it, why bother ?' length of time has maintained, even with the option of the 'big screen' now available again.

Not an impressive year so far domestically:

This Ne Zha 2 / Minecraft box office domination is not really grabbing my interest to watch them. I'm skipping both (in streaming too) just like how I still haven't seen Super Mario and the Sonic movies.

I think the biggest problem right now is the extremely shortened theatrical window. The whole industry is giving contradictory signals, they want you to leave home to watch movies on the big screen, but they also try to keep you at home watching all the content possible and releasing movies that have been in cinemas for just two or three weeks. They're shooting themselves on the foot. They want to have the cake and eat it too.

I'd happily go back to cinemas if they allowed for excitement to build up. There's none of that. Everything comes and goes *pop* like that. The only reason I go to the cinemas is so I don't get spoiled. One day after a movie opens, the entire thing is released into the public one way or another. I couldn't even fully enjoy Deadpool & Wolverine because all the cameos appeared in a public convention.

Oh too bad for those in China who won't get to see these American films in the big screen. I would hate it so much if my local cinemas stop screening Marvel movies and several movie franchises.

Impressive numbers for Minecraft, to be sure. Who would've thought that Warner Bros. would be driving the moviegoing conversation for once, which I don't think has happened since Barbie? Yes, I know it's a joint project with WB and Legendary.

And they’ve got more to celebrate if Sinners breaks out like it’s predicted to next weekend.
