Quantumania BoX Office Thread $

The irony is noted but Marvel may need to start looking into the DC approach.

Get a separate thing going from these connected universes and phases. It seems that, post Endgame, they've been struggling to keep the interest up for more crazy phases and universe ending threats. (For you it was another horrible alien trying to destroy reality, for me it was Tuesday)

It's getting silly. There is STILL a ln unaddressed Celestial sticking out of the Earth by the way.

I think the audience at this point just shrugs this whole connectivity off. The novelty is gone.

Meanwhile, don't be surprised when Elseworlds Joker 2 does another billion easy.

Spiderverse 2 will do good numbers, The Batman 2 will to so it's not just superhero fatigue here, it's something more.

For instance, I think it's a terrible idea to connect X-Men to the MCU, why not have that be it's own thing instead?

I think people are just over this flipping out because character Y showed up in character Z's movie.

I think that would be a terrible idea, as connecting the X-Men to a more comic booky universe would allow for more stories and different X-Men movies then what we've already gotten.

Disney/Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in rival estimates is still looking at the worst drop for an MCU title at -70% with $32M after an estimated $14.6M Saturday, +76%, for a running total of $167.2M in first place.

SATURDAY WRITETHRU after Friday PM post: A Marvel movie is losing gravity in its second weekend atop the box office, with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania clocking the worst second frame drop ever for an MCU title at -70% to -72%. That’s while two lower-budgeted releases outstrip their projections.
The movie is expected to do $30M-$32M this weekend.
Box Office: ‘Ant-Man & Wasp: Quantumania’ Worst Drop For Marvel Movie – Deadline

69.7% drop domestically ("beat" BvS's 69.1% 2nd wknd drop).
61.4% drop internationally.

So what do we think the global ceiling is here? That's a rough drop.

What did Ant-Man 2 make? Low $600 million looks reasonable if not optimistic.

Hard to see a good path forward with Creed III, Scream VI, 65, Shazam 2, and John Wick 4 set to open in March. No kid friendly summer weekdays either. Yeah, they're not all broad 4 quadrant films, but even if some are niche, they all take a demographic away from a 4 quadrant film. And Shazam 2 targets the exact same demographic.

It will drop less next weekend. But it's looking at a short very front loaded run at the box office.

Another reason it will drop less next weekend, stormy weather played a factor here.
Particularly on the West Coast.
Heck San Diego CA had it's first ever,BLIZZARD WARNING!

The pessimistic scenario is that it plays like BVS and comes up short of $500 million and the first Ant-Man. That's absolutely in play now.

Deadlines' article mentioned that CA theaters were actually doing quite well. Creed, as well as taking the IMAX theaters, are going to be rather brutal. 70% brutal, no, but still going to be rough.

Probably low 500’s when it’s all said and done.

Hey at least Ant-Man finished his trilogy unlike poor MoS and possibly Eternals.

Weather also didn't prevent Cocaine Bear and Jesus Revolution from overperforming expectations.

Very disappointing second weekend numbers there. Will have to see if it craters from here on out or can recover/settle.

Eternals is an obscure property so I wouldn't mind if it becomes a 1 and done.

Though given that Marvel Studios is literally making movies for at least 12 ips, it is really not that noticeable.

I'm nervous for the boX office of the reboots of Blade and Fantastic 4 after seeing these numbers.

But I hope this guarantees that there won't be an Ant-Man 4.

Don’t be nervous. If you put out a good product fans will support it. Blade will probably struggle because the fans of it are limited but Deadpool 3 with Wolverine can beat out Joker if it’s a good movie. Fantastic 4 if it has a good script should be a movie for the masses.

Fans aren't enough though.

They need the general public.
