Im confused were people in general (not on these boards) expecting this to make close to $150 mil? Im seeing a-lot of sites and channels like John Campea call this a flop. Over 3 movies the opening weekend has gone up not down and a $100 mil is nothing sneeze at.

Because the movie was a disappointment for Campea, he's now decided that the MCU has lost it's magic and that this movie is a failure by comparing it to other MCU films instead of previous Ant-Man films. He was called out for it by several people in the live chat.

Becuse they make emotional calls on the box office numbers, not any kind of reasonable analysis. See, The Batman. And I'm sure there will be a lot of dramatics over GOTG 3's box office.

Very few MCU movies have failed to increase their opening weekend. The issue is, the legs. I just don't see this improving that much over Ant-man 2.

Honestly this is great.

With bad critical reception and this being the 31st MCU film, the way that people are still flocking to see the latest Marvel Studios fliX is great.

Also, even if you're banking for an Ant-Man 4. This is still a great opening weekend. Lets not forget Ant-Man 2 was just months after Infinity War and wasn't close to 100 million.

John Campea also thinks Batman V Superman is a good movie, and he said "Henry Cavill is the greatest Superman"... so that's all you need to know.

Well its not like Marvel is starting a new franchise or banking on an Ant-Man 4.

Eternals 2 and Eternals 3 are yet to be seen in the other hand.

This is looking to underperform, the question is how much. I can see under $500m all said and done and best case at $550m WW.

For the second day in the row it’s already trailing AM&TW by a significant margin… this could crash and burn pretty quickly.

What’s the current biggest drop for an MCU film second weekend? Eternals?

Thor: L&T - 144M OW to 46.6M 2ndW (67.7% drop)
Spider-Man: NWH - 260M OW to 84M 2ndW (67.5% drop)
Doctor Strange: MOM - 187.1M OW to 61.8M 2ndW(67.1% drop)
Black Panther: WF - 181M OW to 67.3M 2ndW (63% drop)

AM&TW had a 61.6% drop. The same drop for Quantumania would mean a 2nd weekend of 42M if I’m not mistaken. I suspect it will be considerably higher than 61% and more like around 65% or 37M. It could even go lower than that because of the previous big numbers on the Monday holiday as well.

It’s very likely it will have a big drop. And while it’s not like Marvel was banking on this to make a lot of money, they sure didn’t bank on this to lose money either and it’s now almost a certainty that it will loose the studio money when it’s all said and done.

Worth mentioning that this apparently had a 200M budget, so a below par critical reception and around a 500M total gross isn’t a good turnout.

This was never rocket science but it's baffling that Marvel thought they could get away with churning out so much subpar content without any sort of consequence. This is why healthy competition from the likes of DC is needed to keep everyone on their toes. Disney need to scale back their Marvel Disney + content, scrap any projects they had in the pipeline and focus on getting their movies right and back to the level of must-see viewing.

If Quantummania does drop over 70%, that's pretty much a disaster. There's going to be no summer weekdays to make up for subpar weekend holds. Plus there's a lot of competition coming.

Yeah, **** that! I want more and I want it now! I waited since the 80's to get this amount of quality comic book movie content, I'm 48 and don't have time to wait again. I don't care about "quality over quantity", it's been both for me.

Sounds bad.

Honestly, this should be a wake up call for Marvel Studios moving forward. I don't know how Thunderbolts and a Captain America movie without Chris Evans are going to do at the boX Office but its safe to say they won't do Civil War or Iron Man 3 numbers.

I just hope the reboots of Blade and Fantastic Four do well enough that we get 3 films for those.
