Brave and the Bold Casting Thread

Left-field choice, but I think we could do a lot worse than Sebastian Stan. And yes—I know, I know—but Marvel doesn't seem to have anything major lined up for him at the moment.
He's 5'11 and currently 40 years old.

I don't think they'd cast an actor that is still actively playing one of the more high-profile characters in the MCU.

My favorite choices in alphabetical order (bolded my #1):

Ben Aldridge
Benjamin Walker
Jonathan Groff
Lee Pace
Sam Claflin
Tom Pelphrey

If Stan is an important part of the Thunderbolts cast (the leader, according to Kevin Feige), that might not give him time to play Batman. Its not so much high profile connection to a Marvel franchise so much as its his availability that might be an issue.

Jake Gyllenhaal definitely a dream choice.

would love to see Simon Pegg get a role. The age stuff makes it weird, but he’d be a great Comissioner Gordon or Scarecrow

He strikes me as more Nightwing than Batman.

Stan should also not be Batman because he is a bad actor

I tend to lower my standards for MCU lite material, which is what I'm expecting from the Gunnverse. Admittedly, I went a bit too far in that regard. :o

Based on that list, I'd go with with Pace or maybe Claflin as a distant second. But again, with respect to the former, I have to question why the studio would want to kick off a new cinematic universe with a greying, mid-fortysomething Batman. Snyder only did that as an homage to TDKR, and it was ultimately met with controversial results. I don't know, man.

Because they have to differentiate themselves from Robert Pattinson and they already settled that their way of doing so is a Batman with a full blown Bat Family. There really aren't many actors in their 30s currently that can unambiguously sell that sort of patriarch role.

Also Affleck's age was hardly the reason it was received with controversial results. It's more about the way it's presented where they made a point on mentioning his age as if it was TDKR over and over again.

If Pace's Batman is simply presented as him being in his prime without putting any attention to his age it'll be fine even for the next 10 years. Between Tom Cruise, Keanu Reeves, and even The Rock I think we've reached a point where even buying 50+ year olds as action stars is no problem.

You're projecting your own sentiments rather than considering the possibility that Gunn, Saffran, et al. might not see it that way. IMO, all you need is a mature 35-year-old like Tyler Hoechlin to pull off the father-son dynamic.

Doesn't matter. The "crusty, old Batman" approach is still associated with it. And again, the only reason Snyder wanted to go that old in the first place was his passion for TDKR. There's no real reason for it now. It's much safer to hire an actor in his late thirties or very early forties, whereby he'll age gracefully across 10 years and beyond.

I could be wrong on this (although my predictions do tend to pan out), but agree to disagree.

The problem is that you not only have to sell the father-son Dynamic with Damian, but with Dick and probably Jason as well. If they only had to sell the dynamic with a kid or teenager that'd be one thing, it's the fact that there are probably gonna be two young adults in the mix that complicates things.

TDKR's Batman was 55. That's why even the decision of Affleck as the "I'm too old for everything" Batman was bizarre because he could've easily just been portrayed as a Batman in his prime, they actually had to go out of their way to add grey hairs to his wig amongst other things to make him seem older.

I really don't think it does, provided that you hire the right actor for the part. Not suggesting Hoechlin, mind you, but again, he's a prime example of a youngish father figure type — even w/ respect to a twentysomething Nightwing or what have you.

I don't disagree with any of that, but it doesn't really negate my initial point.

Look. If this were anything other than another do-over attempt from the studio, I could see them going with a 45 or 46-year-old. But that's precisely what it is — a reboot. Our new Superman's potential youth is an additional factor. We'll see, though. I certainly won't be mad if Pace gets it.

If they're going for an older, " Dad Batman" , in Brave and The Bold , than

With respect to Barbara: Deutch better get it this time, considering that she was a frontrunner (not to mention my top pick) for Adil & Bilall's now-defunct Batgirl film.

I’m still saying…

Arty Froushan of Carnival Row fame makes for fairly comics-accurate Bruce Wayne IMO. He's a bit on the short side, though.

She'd be great.:word:
Her mother would also have made a Great Batgirl in the 80s as well:cwink:.

At this point, my favorite pick for Alfred is her The Outfit co-star Mark Rylance , though he's too young to be Alfred for the cast I posted with a 50 something Batman.

If they get a late 30s to Mid 40s Bruce, he could still work.

The Great thing about Deutch is that she could play a Batgirl for a 30s through 40s Batman or for a 50 something Batman.

She's Lea Thompson's daughter? Nepotism strikes again! :o But yeah, Lea would've made a decent Lois as well IMO.

Rylance has been my top pick for Alfred for a few years now. Gunn need only see his performance in The Outfit and it's a done deal.

Yep. She's definitely got that versatility factor.

Probably won't be touched due to The Batman Trilogy but still, for a B&B DCU Penguin ,

Look at this guy on Twitter trying to subliminally suggest Pace as Batman. If this isn't you, Invader, you're definitely being watched. :funny: :o

Jokes about his last name would immediately become insufferable, but he certainly looks the part
