Brave and the Bold Casting Thread

After Black Bag, wholly back on the Fassbender train. Was worried his personal baggage would affect him, but considering Brolin was their initial choice for Hal I don’t think it’ll be an issue

Well, I'll drop the bomb. And I don't expect anyone to like my idea.

I’d prefer Glen Powell instead, but Teller’s not a bad choice. Gives off an Affleck vibe.

Alan Ritchson...Definitely has that vibe, action packed, Massive scary size, no need for a ridiculous muscle suit, and he already does detective work in REACHER. Definitely could see it. I'm an estimator and earlier today I was doing a survey for a couple buying land and the father of a seven year old was making small talk with me, I saw his kid playing with a Batman action figure, and I said "Your son likes Batman I see," and this gentleman said "who doesn't" and laughed. He went on to say he perferred Nolan's batman and the Dark Knight being his favorite. He asked if I saw Reacher and I said "I'm in the middle of season 3 now," and he said "Now there is a guy who should play Batman."

So it is definitely a popular choice.

Although I do agree with what another poster said earlier, gone are the days of the aristocratic suit wearing European (James Bonde Esque) look of Bruce Wayne.

Ritchson should play Punisher. As much as I like the actor who plays him now he is so little and small shouldered...his actions make it believable though.

The American aristocrat/blue blood characterization for Bruce is still very much in use today. The OP was just saying he doesn't think Ritchson gives off that vibe.

Sure isn't! Bale was that, Affleck was that, Pattinson specifically meant to evoke the feeling of being a fallen prince from an American Dynasty and will probably lean more towards that in the future. Batman absolutely and unquestionably needs to feel suave and aristocratic - that is the character. You cannot cast him like a meathead action lead, even much finer actors that Ritchson who have been up for Batman would have been terrible in the role because they lack that quality (Josh Brolin, for instance).

Ritchson is a popular choice for a dumb tough guy idea of Batman. Which is maybe the worst possible thing you should be going for when it comes to Batman.

I think if you want a candidate who would bring the Euro-vibe AND the bruiser vibe, that’s Cosmo Jarvis.
Cosmo is an inspired choice and it is legitimate insanity that he is an instant write off if we're making actual predictions due to being a man of average height. He'd be so good at the JLI/DCAU style grumpy prick Batman that feels like an immediate necessity for playing a shared universe Batman - the highlight of Shogun for me was his absolutely unrelenting hostility and verbal aggression.

I just rewatched that s***ty Persuasion adaptation he was in (sometimes I just need my Jane Austen fix ok) and was particularly struck by how wildly unrecognizable he was from his Shogun character. A real chameleon. Maybe some other director will do this movie and convince Gunn to waive his stupid height obsession? :weeping:

His ultra-Euro features would also be an immediately striking contrast with Corenswet too and I feel like they'd play off each other well. Like a big silly Labrador and some horrible bitey Italian greyhound.

A Eurovibe would be nice, but I honestly don't think it's a fundamental prerequisite for the role. Given the Wayne family's long history of wealth and influence in Gotham, you just need someone who can project the appearance and mannerisms of someone who was born into affluence and understands that world intimately. If you can pull off that, then the "playboy persona"—all spoiled brat and uncouth nepo baby—should be a cake walk. It's essentially the inverse of the other type.

Speaking of the playboy persona, I'm curious about the extent to which Gunn incorporates that into his reworking of Bruce in the DCU. To be perfectly honest, I've never been overly fond of how the characterization has been presented in some of the comics and older movies, as it often comes off too much like a nouveau riche caricature, complete with excessive drinking, womanizing, and lavish behavior. Meanwhile, the real Bruce Wayne is well-educated, refined, and possesses a sophisticated demeanor, often w/ a quiet and understated elegance. So, there's a sharp contrast there.

It's partly why I think someone like Alan Ritchson is wrong for the part. He's certainly not incapable of playing rich boys on film, mind you. (After all, he is one. These are high-paid actors we're talking about here!) The issue, however, is that Bruce is an entirely different breed of rich.

That being said, the playboy act in question is interesting because it clearly has an important function in preserving Bruce's Batman identity. Additionally, it gives the actor portraying the character the chance to flex his acting muscles in creative and interesting ways, which can be loads of fun for both hardcore fans and mainstream audiences. So, what I'm really saying here is I guess I'll allow it. lol A brief scene with Alfred chastising Bruce for acting against his parents' (and, if we consider the true Bruce persona, his own) principles and urging him to tone down said performance might be a cool way to address the subject, though.

Wouldn’t the “other persona” here be him as a father? It’s already a different type of Batman film with Damien as a co-lead.

But I just think whatever they do, it’ll be even going out of its way to be different from what we’ve gotten. Especially considering the inspiration. I know some are instantly disinterested because it’s not starting linearly with Dick in the circus, but that’s just now how this stuff works to me.

I just want my theory to be right and the secret writer is Flanagan.

Yeah, I know it's implied that Bruce will be older given Damian's involvement. I'm just not sure if he'll be quite as old as some expect him to be. Either way, the playboy persona has been incorporated into various iterations of Batman in the comics, including Morrison's run, which introduced Damian, so I'm just curious how Gunn might approach that.

I've said this before, but I'm extremely curious about the writer's identity. I'm convinced it's not Gunn himself, so why not just announce it already?

Gunn said something about added pressure and not wanting to announce it yet but idk if it was tongue in cheek or not.

Maybe they don’t wanna announce it while in possible draft mode.

Marvel literally wasted him to prop up a minor villain in a weak ass Sam Wilson Captain America movie, so this would make up for that ball fumble by Marvel. Great choice, actually.
Still haven’t seen it, but I remember them hyping up his casting to the point where I was like “Is he Norman Osborn…?”

And then, well…

Cosmo Jarvis should be Kevin Feige's #1 choice for MCU Wolverine. He's got the deep, scary voice, the stature, short but thicker frame, young but looks older and rougher than his age, etc.

Him being on Chris Nolan's radar is a good sign.

Sadly that'd feel like a waste since they already wasted their first impression of Wolverine in the MCU on DP3.
