Brave and the Bold Casting Thread

The more I think about it the more I'm convinced that Lee Pace is the absolute best choice for this.

Great actor, great look, great voice, right age, has worked with Gunn before, experienced with franchises, and also seems like he'd be up for having the role for 10 years.

I don't think there's a better choice out there, he just makes sense, I'm actually shocked there's not more people rallying behind him because he's absolutely perfect for a comic accurate, Bat-Family patriarch version of Bruce. He'd stand imposing against all the other Bat-Family members.

I can find cons for pretty much every other choice but I can't find a single one for him.
it's a contender surely

I suspect a bunch of Gunn's Guardians are going to be done with the MCU after Vol. 3, so those actors wouldn't be playing in two universes concurrently.

In any case, Lee Pace falls under that category of someone Gunn has worked with who isn't an active player in the MCU. Extremely talented actor and has the look. Just don't know if we should expect a mid-30s or mid-40s Batman.

I kinda feel that it's pretty much a given that's the direction they're going.

Gunn remarked that one important thing for them with this project is to make sure it's different from Pattinson's take. Pattinson is already a young Batman in his 30s, so I don't really see them casting an actor the same age he is or younger.

From the moment he mentioned Damian, and then wanting to showcase the extended Bat-Family, I think that pretty much sealed the deal this will at least be a Batman in his early 40s.

Sure, one can make a bunch of arguments as to a 35 year old having a 14 year old son or something, but... the problem is not even that, the problem lies in the rest of the family.

I don't think it's quite easy to buy an early 20 something actor Nightwing looking at an, idk, to put an example, ATJ or Oliver Jackson Cohen as a father, and being able to buy Bruce as a father figure to a bunch of really capable young adults is gonna be crucial here to sell the dynamic.

It's clear that this version of Bruce is one that, much like in the comics, is gonna be very much a patriarch for the Bat-Family. He's gonna be well experienced, he's gonna have a bunch of history behind him; and that's what will make him different from Robert.

For all we know even the aging might even get factored into the story of the 10 year plan. Maybe we'll see Bruce grow old, and Damian grow into adulthood. That could be a compelling father-son narrative for an overarching story like this.

And as far as people that I'd buy as a Batman that's the patriarch of a Bat-Family... yeah Lee Pace is pretty much the top choice on the list.

That's Bruce Wayne right here. Flawless.

It would be extremely funny if it ended up being Cavill.

Not that it would necessarily be the best piece of casting, but it sure would make the Snyder freaks mad.

I'll also add that Gunn mentioned that the DCAU would be a big influence for his DCU. And as far as Hollywood actors that have a strong natural baritone voice that could translate into a very Conroy-esque take on Batman, no name comes to mind that could pull it off better than him.

I’m totally down for Lee Pace for a silver age/Bruce Timm inspired Batman. He’s basically perfect casting.

but I can’t help but wanna see Jon Hamm do it ;)

Lee Pace's voice and demeanor would be the closest to how I always personally picture Batman out of any actor we've gotten. He's just perfect for it.

Another big benefit of him is that it is really easy to picture him as Serious Dark Batman and something a bit lighter and sillier. Being able to do both will probably be a big factor in the casting.

Whenever he tapped into the little bit of joy for Joe or comedy, he was amazing... also his deadpan in Bodies Bodies Bodies.

No hate to the cast of Bodies Bodies Bodies but the scenes where the much younger, less experienced actors had to play off Lee Pace were embarrassing to watch for just how hard he blew them out of the water as a screen presence.

Daniela Melchior for Catwoman gotta happen.

I hope the cast a 12-14 year old actor to play Damien so we can see him as Robin for a few movies. I know a 10 year old assassin will turn people off but if you make the movie a little “weird” it might work. I hope they don’t screw the age of the Damien actor like the did Billy Badson in Shazam.

Early to mid 40s is what they should go for, in my opinion. That is old enough to be believable as a more seasoned and established Batman who has had at least Dick Grayson as Robin before Damian shows up, but you avoid the Ben Affleck type of situation where your Batman is close to Dark Knight Returns territory.

I think Damian should be the second Robin in this universe. Tim Drake and Jason Todd should not be in it. The history of the Bat Family in the comics is bloated because they built it over decades, and that is fine, but I think having a large family with everyone already established to start with is too much to throw at the audience all at once.

Veteran, established Batman always feels like he's in his 40s to me. Whenever Batman comics where he has a full Bat Family pretend he's in his early thirties it feels wonky and dumb.

he might be too old, but justin theroux's another actor who can balance a darker & a goofier side to batman.

He's probably too old though, idk

Since Gunn and Safran are talking about bouncing back and fourth from live action, animation and gaming in terms of what the actors will have to do....

I think Troy Baker would be an interesting choice. He looks the part, is 6'3, and has played Batman already in animation and video games so he can certainly do those projects. He's 47 though, so a bit on the older side (but still looks young).

I have a feeling they won't be willing to pay massive movie star salaries long term the way Marvel dishes them out for guys like RDJ which probably precludes someone like Gosling.

I think they can do Jason Todd, have him dead in this film and then have the sequel be about Under the Red Hood. Tim is the one that might get lost in the shuffle here.

Can't really see Ryan Gosling wanting to dedicate the next 10 years of his career to playing Batman in movies, TV, animation and gaming.
this gaming thing is what really confuses me rn. if cumberbatch can take time out to voice what-if, then i can see other big names - but adding video games on top of that is just gonna alienate so much talent

i can't see them not casting a gay actor for midnighter, especially with guys like bomer & murray bartlett being great choices
I frankly think Hollywould should get over this idea of casting gay actors as gay characters.

They're actors. They pretend for a living. Lee Pace is gay and he'd be a fantastic Batman for this film, and there are plenty of straight actors that'd be great as Midnighter or Apollo. Gunn also strikes me as someone that'd primarily focus on finding the right person rather than worrying about the sexuality of the actor.
