So I FINALLY got around to reading DC's Brave New World last night. I was in and out of Sunday Night Football, just as I was in and out of this 80-Page Monster...

It definitely wasn't as compelling as Countdown, but it was still good. It even got me interested in a few (such as Atom), but then I had to tell myself, "No, stupid! They're just writing good stories so you'll buy them!"

I was frustrated with what I felt like they were doing w/the Freedom Fighters. I'm sick of everyone just "revampling" everything and passing it off as "new". And the DCU has existed COMPLETELY out of our world for YEARS, and I was severly disappointed to see TWO of the new books (Creeper & Freedom) make references to the Iraq War & Pres. Bush:cmad: . I don't want to read about current events in comics, !!!

But...BUT...I was THOROUGHLY and GENEROUSLY surprised at the last few panels! I mean, WHAT THE HECK DOES THIS MEAN??? So I have two questions which I know the LONG TERM answer to, but I'd like to hear you short term answers in the meantime.

1) What's your theory on the revelation at the end?

2) Do you believe/are they using THESE particular books to springboard this revelation down the line?

3) (bonus) How do you feel about these books that were launched b/c I'm not planning on reading them right now?

So no one wants to talk about BNW's surprise direction? I know I'm 4 months late on this one, but...

dan didio had said something like key characters are going to have their own monitor.. like kyle and dick... and i think donna too... as far as the titles... the only one that interested me was trials of shazam... issue 1 was decent... ill let you know about issue 2 after tomorrow

I'm getting All-New Atom, Creeper, Trials of Shazam, and Martian Manhunter (which I might drop). I was bored with the Battle for Bludhaven and Bruce Jones sucks so I'm avoiding OMAC like the clap.

i didnt even bother with martian manhunter... didnt interest me... which sucks because i love j'on j'onz too... just not getting the whole "mad at the world" angle...

I'm getting Uncle Sam and Trials of Shazam.

I was getting Martian Manhunter and Creeper too - but I'm buying a bit too many comics at the moment so dropped them. Unless I hear anything amazing I'll just let them go.

Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters is the ****e.

Is Creeper any good? I really liked the preview in BNW but havent been compelled to buy it.

I thought the first issue of Creeper was much better than the preview.

As I said I didn't think the series was bad I just have other books I want to read above it - so it got dropped.

I like it. Batman's appearance in issue 2 was completely pointless but overall I find Jack Rider being a liberal Bill O'Reily to be an interesting take on the character.

What's up with the Creeper? It wears me out to think about him. Is he a kind of "anti-hero"? Like the "flawed" male characters on FX's tv shows?

What's the whole deal thus far? And are they not really explaining the whole sha-bang w/him yet?

m a big fan of Steve Niles and read an interview with him where the Creeper isnt really bad. Its very much a Jeckyll and Hyde situation where jack can actually talk to the Creeper persona in his head and vice versa. But the creeper is always wanting to come out and bust someone. Hes more over excited then being a true anti-hero. Hes not really evil or anywhere near evil although the BNW preview showed him going to an extreme shooting that guy.

So the Jeckyll/Hide comparison, is it Supernatural or Scientific in origin? I thought I remembered Creeper references in 'Day of Vengence' books

If you mean DC's current habit of killing of perfectly good heroes, and then replacing them with characters that aren't really and improvement, then yes.

it's a bit of a stretch to say Dick Grayson needs his own Monitor...that's depressing for sure.

I can see it now: Dick Grayson is DC's version of parent company WB's Neo.

Thus far everything is scientific branching from Dr Yatz's invention which is some kind of smart skin that was suppose to heal burn victims. That part has not been fully explained. As far as I remember, the Creepers origin had been explained two other times both with difference but following the same idea and they all started with a scientific not supernatural explanation.

He has one, because he was supposed to die, not Connor.

wow, that fits right in with my working theory...

...according to this news, that would make Dick an "ANAMOLY"!

UUUUUuuuuuu!

...but would someone want to explain where the monitors CAME FROM??!??!

Or is that spoiling the next big event in 3 years?

I think if the Monitors were reborn then I think the Anti Monitor could have also been reborn.

agreed...but i think there is little to no chance of it getting an ongoing. Steve Niles has a lot to do with the coolness of the book and tends to write one-shots and miniseries rather than on goings. Maybe we can expect a Creeper adventure every couple a months or so like his Cal MacDonald books.

I read IC, but I don't remember the universe being reborn this time???

...because all of the heroes still had their memories of the event
