Brazilian archbishop denounces abortion for pregnant 9 year old that was raped

I'm not in the least bit surprised by this, that's how they roll. Doesn't make it right but that's how it is.

So a nine year old rape victim should be forced to carry twins, nevermind that her uterus is too small to do so?

Talk about putting rules at higher importance than fundamental sense and human compassion....unfortunately I'm not too surprised. Men like this archbishop don't seem to have any concept of compassion.

In his mind he is showing more compassion than the childs mother and others involved.

and it says "I have given you a choice between life and death and you shall choose life". But, the girl would of died so it was kind of like a lose-lose situation. Esspecially with the fact the babys would of most likely have died so why not let the girl live?

the innocent baby never commited any crime. why do you assume it should be put to death for it's father's crime. the poor girl's suffering is caused by the man who raped her, killing the baby would only make things worse. why do you have no compassion for the poor baby? how can you delude yourself into thinking that this would help the girl ?

They all but said the girl would have died trying to carry one baby let alone TWINS.

I'm no doctor, But as i said before The babies would of probably of died ALONG with the mother if they had been born . So which is better 3 people dead or 2 people?

God, there Anti-abortion stance ranks among my trinity of things i don't understand about Christianity.

I'm pro-life, but I can honestly say I agree with the fact that the pregnancy was aborted, given that it was more than likely a danger to both the babies and the 9-year old mother.

**** religion. That archbishop deserves no press time, and I don't understand why his denouncement is some sort of "big news."

Because it/it's got a very small chance to survive, and has a pretty good chance of taking the mother with it/them.

As I said, I do not believe in abortion, but I can if it means the death or endangerment of the mother.

I didn't know it was possible to be Pregnant at 9....poor kid.

Have no clue how about biology do you? I recall a girl at 6 years old got pregnant when she was raped and yes she had a abortion

As long as they've entered puberty, they can get pregnant, and with the hormones in food, children are reaching puberty and developing secondary sexual characteristics sooner than they used to

A similar thing happened in Romania. A young girl got raped by a relative and she came to britain for an abortion because they are illegal in romania or something.

I can't understand blind devotion to any religion where you value some scripture or interpretationint of that religion more than the lives of fellow human beings

You got kids? Wanna watch your 9 year old rape victim carry around two reminders of that horrible experience? You wanna raise 'em, thinking every day about their father? You want your NINE year old to have to raise them? You want to give them away for adoption, like that's going to be great for them living in the orphanage systems?

You want to put YOUR child at risk for the sake of an unborn kid? Sorry people that are outside of the womb will always be more important than people inside the womb.

No sir or madam. You do not have kids. NO ONE in their right mind with children would hesitate to sign off on the abortion in this case.

Growth of Catholicism is decreasing, compared to other faiths. Wasn't it just last year that Islam over took it in numbers?

I'm thinking the church knows this, despite the active missionary missions in 3rd world countries. The numbers can't compare to the growth of other world religions. It's disturbing how even cases like this get played down, just so the church can boast in numbers.

The restrictions on abortion in Catholicism isn't shared with other religions. I saw on tv that in Islam for instance, abortion is an exception if there's a case of rape. Some schools of thought even consider abortion within the first 17 weeks permissible.

I once read about a five year old mother. :(. and no she didn't have an abortion. She and the baby survived.

First of all it has nothing to do with entering puberty. A girl cannot get pregnant unless she had her Menarche, which usaully happens a year or two after puberty begins.
And you blame food horomones? really? was there a study done to prove this?

I'm a catholic and while I believe this is horrendous for the girl, the children would still deserve a chance at life. In this situation there are 3 people to be considered, not one. There are plenty of people in a better position who can't have children of their own. Its a sad and difficult situation and these things aren't always clean cut.

That is a good point Thor. As I said these things are never easy especially for people who have faith. All life is sacred and should we believe in acceptable losses? In this case I would say yes, the children had no hope so it was better to save the mother.

Please lets not use this as evidence that catholics are all crazy, we have as much of a crazy contingent as any other religion

it's the choice of the girl and her family.

Everyone elses really doesn't amount to a hill of beans.
