Brexit

There's a person on my FB feed who's been on a "Bernie-or-NOTHING" rant for months now. When people reminded him of the possibility of Trump, he said that would be his only other alternative because Trump will burn everything down so we can start over and that would be a good thing.

Well, this is how it looks. He's been awfully quiet today.

I have at least two diehard Berners on my FB feed who have been bashing Hillary (rarely Trump, 99% Hillary) for months like it's their job, and keep saying she should drop it because of the FBI investigation, or think she's gonna be clapped in handcuffs and thrown in prison any day now.

I voted for Bernie in the primary, but after a certain point, pragmatism has to set in. Going on and on this way will only be helping Trump.

And yea, burning everything down would be a good thing, nevermind all the people who'd get hurt in the process. :whatever:

Since Scotland mostly voted in favor of Remain, will it hold another independence referendum at some point and, if successful, rejoin the EU?
That is highly likely at this point from reports I've read.

I've reached the point where if someone wants to give me crap about supporting Hillary, I just point at Trump and go, "Do you see THIS? THIS CAN'T HAPPEN."

Do I wish we had a better candidate? Sure. But do I live in reality too? I definitely do. If anything, Brexit just reinforces how important it is to vote.

I'm not big fan of Hillary Clinton. I think she comes across like a Stepford robot who says anything to get more votes.

But she doesn't pander to the lowest common denominator of xenophobes like Trump gleefully wades into up to his eyeballs, and I don't think she's going to start WWII because someone insults her on Twitter.

Also she, ya know, actually knows how government works.

Same here. I used to support Bernie but now I switched my support to Hillary, and I think while she's not perfect, she has also been wrongfully attacked just because she's a female presidential candidate. And the thought of having Trump as the Prez is like the Doomsbay scenario; we cannot allow it to happen. Hopefully Brexit's victory will be a cautionary tale for American voters.

Not surprising

'I really regret my vote': The Brexit voters who wish they'd voted In

We live in the age of the idiot.

Willful ignorance and anti-intellectualism is the status quo.

Who cares what makes sense, all that matters is how we feel :o

Anyone that disagrees with us is obviously shady and part of some conspiracy to deny us what we want.

Exactly. She's a politician, and a typically frustrating one at that...but at least she's a damn grownup.

I was shocked Jeremy Clarkson wanted to remain. Clarkson has been heavily critical or Europe for years and is the living embodiment of little England yet even he wanted to remain.

Instead of resigning and running away like Cameron did, some UK politicians need to take one for the team and use the fact that Brexit is not legally binding to disregard this referendum, instead of plunging Britain and Europe by extension into economic upheaval and returning Britain to a totally unfeasible state of isolationism on the whims of a bunch of technologically illiterate old people who won't have to live with the long-term ramifications of this decision and who have to Google what the EU is.

This is why direct democracy is absurd.

Also, there is just as much entitlement among old people as there is among millennials.
I agree with this so much.

Voting for Hillary is like taking the blue pill in the Matrix.

Trump is like activating Skynet.

Sure, the Matrix is a serene, stable environment based on deception but Skynet is the end of times.

Anyone who voted for a Brexit or would in fact activate Skynet (vote for Trump) show they either horrible human beings (the racist, xenophobic, etc.), don't care and just want to lash out at the "Establishment", or have no idea what they are talking about and got caught up in the BS.

I'm starting to wonder if direct democracy that impacts the global economy should be outlawed.

If you're not an economist, let the pros handle it.

:funny:

Like economists have any idea what they are talking about.

Or they saw the way the EU was heading and decided that national sovereignty was in their best interest. But it is easier to label everyone as bigots and idiots when they don't have your point of view.

What does this mean for British people that are currently living in the EU countries without a passport? Are they going to be considered illegal immigrants?

That all depends on the conditions settled in the exit agreement between the UK and the EU. There's still two years before that kicks in. I'm sure they'll be required to apply for visas and will have to obtain a passport.

Except of course this wasn't in their best interest, which is why their marketing are already melting down in the face of this. But hey, I am sure the over 50 white vote just happens to be on the side of this disaster, where everyone else thinks they are nuts.

If Brexit leaves the EU unable to provide for its other states, would these other states be more likely to exit as well?

Welp, I guess we know what would happen if we let fear and xenophobia take priority while voting. It's the xenophobia that concerns me more than the economy. The stock market will always do what it wants. (Although there's a schadenfreude in chuckling at the older folks who've lost so much savings in the resulting crash, and don't have the time to build it back up.)

But it's very scary to see this kind of cultural shift, where we're literally going backwards. Especially when it's the older folks who voted to leave, and the biggest ramifications of course will be on the younger people.
