What movies do you think should be produced as films.

I can name a few:

Wicked
Cats
Spamalot (Remake)
Annie (Remake)

But not that many... Got any?

-A Little Night Music (a desperately needed remake)
-Spring Awakening
-Urinetown (Would be great, but too ballsy to do)

There are more but those are all I can think of right now

Couldn't agree more about Wicked.

It's funny you don't see more musicals at the box office.

There was already an Annie remake with Victor Garber, Audra MacDonald, Alan Cumming, Kristen Chenowith and Kathy Bates.

YES!!!!!!

I would also like to add a Cabaret remake, In the Heights, Jekyll & Hyde, Ragtime, A Chorus Line remake, and Miss Saigon.

I'd also like to add Bare: A Pop Opera, thought it's not officially on Broadway yet.

Les Misérables

At first I was gonna mock you for this but then I started thinking about it. I'm thinking a Pixar-produced version of Cats could be something amazing.

Brigadoon needs a remake, in my opinion. And there's this little-known musical called Way Out West that should be made into a movie.

DEFINTETLY Cats in claymation (ala Fantastic Mr. Fox)....it would be awesome

Actually they are on a re-emergence in the box office. Since the critical success of Moulin Rouge (which was nominated, deservedly for an Oscar) Chicago was a huge hit that won best picture. Since then there has been a musical or two released every year. Which I love, even if I hate some of the musicals (coughMammaMiacough).

I would prefer not to see that. Fosse did an amazing job of adapting it and I don't see what could be done to improve that film. But I like all the other suggestions. Les Miz would make a very good movie, I think.

Cats? God, no.

There is a film version of In The Heights on the way (which I'm psyched for) and a film version of Rock of Ages (which I'm on the fence about - I loved the show, but I'm not sure how that will work away from the stage).

Years ago there was talk about the Henson company doing a film version of Into the Woods, which would have been awesome. Doubt that's still in the works, but I'd still love to see a film version.

I'd love to see a better version of Rent...you know, one that includes the reprise of Goodbye Love. :argh:

I'd rather not see a film version of Spamalot. The show was hysterical, but I don't think it would translate well to film.

Miss Saigon only if they finally get rid of my least favorite line in a musical ever ("That girl and me, we could be in the sack, for what it would cost me to buy a Big Mac"). Yikes.

In the non-musical category, I'm hoping for a movie version of A Steady Rain...with Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman reprising their roles, of course.

I'm seeing A View From the Bridge next week, which I'm hearing awesome things about - maybe a movie version of that too?

Isn't a Spring Awakening film in the making? McG of all people is directing it.

McG and Spring Awakening...yay.

How about a new version of Hair? The original film was nothing like the musical, and they could do it with the awesome new Broadway cast (who is heading off to do the show in London soon):

-Les Miserables
-Wicked
-Miss Saigon
-Phantom of the Opera (a reboot! and get a Phantom who can actually sing unlike Gerald Butler :cmad:)

Btw, didn't Nicole Kidman do a Broadway show years ago in the bluff? Maybe they can make a movie out of it. :o

Speaking of Phantom, I'd like to see a big-screen adaptation of the book, not the musical.

I would love to see a Jersey Boys film.

I could never get into Jersey Boys.:csad:

I never heard of Steady Rain.

A Steady Rain

Looks like that is in the works:

Keith Huff to develop 'Steady Rain' movie for James Bond producers

The life of the Chicago writer Keith Huff has changed drastically. Even though he is still ensconced in his day job as a technical writer in Chicago, he has just inked a deal to develop the screen version of his hit play about two Chicago cops.

According to a report in the Hollywood Reporter, Huff will adapt his play for the Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. The trade paper says Huff's deal was in "the mid-six figures against one million."

"A Steady Rain," which premiered at Chicago Dramatists, moves to Broadway this fall with Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman in the lead roles. Given Broccoli's association with Craig, it seems likely that those two movie stars also have their eye on the film version.

Hope it happens! I saw the play twice, it was really good.

I saw it for free. Someone at work couldn't use his ticket for a Wednesday matinee, so he let me take it. It's fun to leave work early to see a Broadway show. :woot:

The show itself is ok, but the music is fantastic. The medley they do in Act 2 actually had people up and dancing. I'm surprised they haven't made it into a movie yet.

I never heard of Steady Rain.

It was a play that was on Broadway last fall with Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman. They played Chicago cops recounting a series of horrific events that pretty much shatters their whole friendship.

It was really good - it's just the two of them onstage for the whole thing basically bouncing monologues off each other. I'd love to see how it would work as a movie.

The fact that Wicked isn't even in pre-production is a crime. I can't even imagine how amazing it would look.

We haven't had a theatrical 'Jekyll and Hyde' in years, and the musical would be out-freakin-standing.

Spring Awakening and Avenue Q would also be top notch.

Hell, I'd give my money to help finance 'Wicked' and 'Jekyll and Hyde' films.
