Bryan Hitch signals the end of "The Ultimates"

It was great, it's always nice to get a really good read every three months or so. :p

better than a crappy read every month

I sense flawed logic. I like how he talks like Ultimates was some big industry changing book in which everything we believed was true is wrong. Goodbye Hitch, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Hope they wait awhile before putting out his next book. Get most of the pencils in the can since they know how long it'll take.

Always the cynic.I don't see one line in there where Hitch hints or mentions Ultimates being an industry changing book.Point me to it in case I've missed it.

Um, he titled it end of an era. Seriosuly, thanks because you may be ending an era but you single handedly ushered a new era where late books are acceptable.

Wow! He just finished the pages?! I'm looking forward to reading the last issue if only to see how it ends. Constant delays really took away most of my interest in the book. Hitch is a great artist, I hope he continues to find work and that the book he's in can do something to accomodate his pace while not making the readers suffer for his output.

It does, doesn't it? Look, I've been following Hitch since he was in The Authority, I don't hate the guy. I know he was able to do a monthly book, I don't know what's happened since then to change that (honestly, it's not like his work has become much more detailed than what it was before). The delays of the book pissed me off to the point where I didn't care for the book. I got tired of being angry and changed it to apathy, I'm sure my stomach is thanking me.

I don't know why filler issues are so taboo now. They're great opportunities to do character one-shots, they're awesome for characterization. I also see them as an opportunity for lesser known artists to get their name out there. But, whatever, companies and fans don't seem to like them anymore.

It's the reason I have not read any of the Ultimates 2, because of the lateness. I just planned on waiting and getting it in the inevitable trade so I wouldn't have to wait.

I'm already suffering because of that with Astonishing X-Men and last year Ultimate Iron-Man. The only reason I waited patiently (almost) for UIM is because I am a Orson Scott Car finatic. His Ender series is surely one of the best Sci-Fi stories ever told.

I didn't get any hint of pretension from him. He just sounds like it's wierd thinking that his run on the book is done.

*slow clap*

I love that I buy The Ultimates in trade.

But what happens when they delay the trade?:o :wow:
I go read one of the twenty other trades I've been meaning to read. :o

Speaking of which, when the hell is the Planet Hulk trades gonna start coming out? :(

Probably when it all ends. Im hoping for an omni-bus.

Y'know, I've got no problem with occasional late books. I would rather have an issue from the current team, then to have a story that was laying in a desk somewhere and obviously wasn't good enough to put out right away. My problem comes when the artist makes a career of being late. Seriously, if you can't do a monthly book, just do mini-series. No one will think less of you. I would rather have Hitch on a book like Civil War if they can give him enough time to put all 7 issues in the can.

Bleh, they're too big for my tastes.

It's like holding the ten commandments in their original stone form.

The lateness isn't entirely Hitch's fault. Millar has a very nasty chronic disease that puts him through alot of pain (not to mention makes him unable to drink his favorite beer). And trust me, when you're in bed, sick, and in alot of pain, the last thing you'll be doing is writing.

Thats why they invented co-writers. I feel for the guy, but you add the fact that Hitch without a doubt took his sweet ass time with this book (because he did) and Millar's sickness, it was a recipe for disaster. And Tropico's point still stands, Hitch was never this slow on art before, ever.
