Bungie, Microsoft Part ways. :(

I like this news. With them in a way breaking the the creative constrictions MS had on them they can offer so much more than before and without worry of it becoming multi platform. Best of both worlds. I'm not that huge a fan of Halo, but I know its a great game. I'm very interested to see if they can pull off a game of Halo-like quality in a different genre. This shouldn't be seen as bad news. Its great.

They probably won't.

Halo is so huge because the first one was a frathouse fragfest, where it was suddenly cool to play the game, and if you didn't you were a nerd. As opposed to games like UT2001, where you're a nerd if you play it, and cool if you don't.

Halo 2 reinforced this with the online, and people that bought halo 1 + 2 are a guarentee buyer of 3 (for the most part), as well as everyone else who wants to get into this little fad.

Even if its a fad (and thats stretching it) its by no means "little".

as well as everyone else who wants to get into this little fad.

I dont understand how one of the biggest console franchises is a little fad. Please explain this. I understand if you dont like Halo, but damn, at least respect the fact that it is making a ton of people gamers. If you dont see that, then damn dude, open your eyes.

yeah seriously...that's like saying Star Wars was "a little fad" or if you want a gaming analogy, Doom was "a little fad."

I mean in the scope of things, it's a little fad.

When Halo 1 was out, it was met with good sucess, largely by either gamers, or frat boys. With the promise of online play, a lot more bought into Halo 2. Then you know, Halo 2 was named one fo the best online shooters, so on and so forth, so of course a lot mroe people are going to pick up Halo 3. I'm not saying it's a bad game, or aynthing like that, but in the longrun people are going to see it as a fad.

50 or so years from now I mean. Expecially if they keep their word and only have it be a three game trilogy.

Like the way MMO's have been getting more and more popular. That's a little fad. Eventually people will stop playing them en masses and history will put it down as a fad, just like boy bands, dazzled jackets, and parachute pants.

So gaming is a fad to you?

Oooooooooooooooooookay.

Do you like video games at all??? It sounds like you think that Star Wars was a fad as well. Based upon what you are saying, its pretty clear that anything with any sort of popularity is only a fad.

If it's simply a "fad", then Bungie was doing something right when they created a fad that lasts 6 years.

He loves God of War, Jak and Daxter, Resistance: Fall of Man, Motorstorm...

He hates Halo, Gears of War, Fable...

Hmmmm... I don't quite follow his taste...

I may not be a wild fan of Halo, although I am giving it another spin since I bought the novels and am enjoying it so far, but I'm at least aware that it's not a fad.

Just like I'm not into the Beatles, but their influence on music is far more than any fad would have.

Both the impact of Halo on gaming, and the Beatles on music, merit respect for that even if someone isn't enamored with them.

As for the games, I think it's just a case of disliking something with the only reason being a lot of people like it.

Who me? I hate platformers, and I loved GoW, GEoW, Fable, Halo, so on and so forth...so you obviously cant be talking about me. Unless you're just talking out of you ass. :whatever:

You loved Halo, but dont respect it as something more than a fad? BS.

It's something that got extremely popular extremely fast, and in a few years, it'll drop suddenly because the markets going to be flooded with so many 'knockoffs'. Just you watch.

It'll be like Beanie Babies all over again.

There were dozens of Halo "knock-off's" since 2002.

I really dont understand how you think this. You are making no good arguments towards your case. I could understand if you just didnt like it, but you said earlier you loved Halo, so yeah....

I'm making good arguements, you guys are just blinded by it's overwhelming popularity right now. Give it a few years and you'll be like "damn, you know what, that SouLeSS guy was right..."

Wouldn't we already be saying that about Halo then since it's been six years now? Obviously it's standing the test of time. In the game world if something's relevant for more than two years it's a damn-near timeless classic.

No. No you are not giving us facts. You are just saying "Guys, trust me. Its a fad". Show me another franchise that has fallen down the same path, then I will believe you.
