Burnout Paradise - Driving to pefection

Criterion rocks bc they continue to support their game and offer FREE DLC. Im also glad that the trophies will be retroactive bc I really didnt want to replay the game bc Ive made alot of progress

Burnout Paradise is coming to PSN.

If you missed Burnout Paradise on PS3 back in January, now is the time to get your open-world speed on as the racer hits the Playstation Network.

The downloadable edition will come with all the recent patches and updates and will be able to download the 'Year Of Paradise' DLC that adds new vehicles (including motrocycles) and game modes.

The DLC will also bring a live news page containing updates about new content and multiplayer events.

Burnout Paradise should arrive this Autumn for $29.99.

Wow. This will be the first 3rd party retail game for the PS3 to be available on the PSN. Im surprised bc so far its only been Sony offering up its games on there. I guess the closest from before was Tekken Dark Ressurection but that was an HD PSP port

I know! It will be interesting to see how well it sells and what the size of download it will be.

While I prefer games on discs, I hope more publishers offer up their games this way. Im surprised many havent so far as they save money on packaging, shipping and other costs associated with creating and distributing a physical copy. There are a few older games that I wouldnt mind buying and downloading at a reduced rate that I probaly wouldnt have justified at original full price at time of release

Four new special cars are due out next year. Here is the first:

The Jansen 88 Special is the first of four Legendary Cars being introduced to the series as next year, along with the Cavalry Bootlegger, Manhattan Spirit and the GT Nighthawk. Each car will be available for purchase separately, or as part of a discounted pack of four.

The Jansen 88 Special is modeled after the Jansen P12, but it's received a few modifications. Once you fill up the boost gauge, trigger it and the car leaves a trail of dual flames behind it, much like a certain modified DeLorean DMC-12 does when you reach 88 miles per hour in it.

Hit the L3 button and this happens:

:wow:

I finally tore myself away from Fallout 3 to start playing this. It's as fun as I remember all the other Burnout games being. It's tough starting out with the ridiculously terrible cars, but I've got about 5 now and the Vegas isn't too bad (except for turning).

The only thing that bothers me about it is having to find stuff. In a game where you're speeding down roads at 300 mph, it's really hard to try and coordinate with your map to figure out where you're meant to be going. I know they give you warnings about upcoming turns during events, but when you're just cruising around trying to find events or other junkyards or whatnot, it's pretty hard.

Still, that's a minor nitpick that an online map or game guide will easily fix, so I'm very hapy with the game. Hopefully, those special cars get here soon 'cause I really, really want to race with the DeLorean. :)

SO, when do we get the batmobile for this game?
:hehe:

The Burnout Ultimate Box is nearly here

  • An enhanced and improved version of Burnout: Paradise
  • New vehicles including motorbikes
  • New game modes and challenges
  • All-new offline party mode for 2-8 players
  • Day to night cycle and weather effects
Criterion damn deserve Developer of 08+09 for this, they set the standard that puts paid weekly LBP DLC, and so much more to shame. This is a definate purchase for me.

I just got my B license recently, but due to GTA4 I had to put this down for awhile. This game is alot of fun, but I hate the downtime between races because once you've finished a race to remote places like the Windmills, you'd have to go all the way back to look for races, and even worse if you've just lost the race. And it is still tough to make that detour since you have to check the converging street sign to make the turn, and at 300MPH it's hard to do. Sometimes I made the turn too early or too late and ended up crashing, often eliminating me from the race.

I do hope to get the rest of the licenses soon so I can have more vehicles opened up. I want to get the DLC for the 4 new legendary cars but I have a feeling that they'll require you to have Burnout Elite license to drive them.

There are races scattered all over. Just start whatever race is closest.

As for the legendary cars, maybe they'll give you a separate license for them like they did with the bikes. That'll start everyone off on equal footing.

I have to start this game complettely from scratch again bc my game save got corrupted. Good thing its loads of fun and not too hard

For those who've played further into the game than I have (a.k.a. everybody): do you ever reach a point where the cars aren't initially f***ed up when you first get them from the junkyard? Having to repair them the first time I take them out is kind of getting old.

I think they are all messed up at first, with the exception of maybe the cars exclusive to retailers

Meh. Oh well, at least they put a repair shop near to almost every junkyard.

I just got my class B license. I'm sort of learning the city a bit more, so it's becoming easier for me to win races because I know where I'm going a little better. I still crash a lot because I'm checking my mini-map, though, so Marked Man events haven't been particularly kind to me.

I was like you, and I used to check the minimap too often, and it usually resulted in me crashing my car. Right now, I've decided to only look at the minimap sparingly, and pay more attention to where the rivals cars are going and the converging street signs on the top (which signal a detour is coming). I found out that I win more when I do this, because the minimap makes it hard for you to pay attention to the road.

I've started trying to listen for the pinging of the car's signal when a turn is coming up. I don't look at the signs because I generally try to pay attention to the road to find shortcuts while I'm racing. I really wish they froze the map after the description of the race and made you press a button to continue to the race itself, since it's easier to plot out a route when you've got just the origin and destination on a full-screen map in front of you.

I just recently got this and also recently got my B license. I definitely crash a lot, especially when I'm in first place. It's very tricky to get a hang of how to race in this game. The map is huge and twists a lot. I make wrong turns at the worst possible time.

I love Road Rage, it's always been my favorite Burnout mode. I also love seeing an unlocked car race away from me and the chase begins.

Burnout is the only racing game I enjoy playing, and I am enjoying paradise. Free updates don't hurt either. I can't wait for the new cars and new island and the Ecto-1 and Delorean. :woot:.

I tend to crash a lot when I'm in the middle of the positions because I see tail lights ahead of me and ram them because I think it's another racer, but it turns out it's just some stupid civilian car and, for some reason, bumping those even from behind at full speed wrecks you. That's an annoying inconsistency between normal cars and other racers.

I know what you mean about the unlocked cars, though. I'll be puttering along to my next event and a car'll zoom by me going the opposite direction, and I'm like, "Aw, hell yeah!" :D

I also hate the fact that civilian cars cannot be taken down, but they served to be obstacles that would wreck your car if collided head-on. I also have the tendency to ram into cars that I thought were racers but they ended up dropping me from top 3 to bottom 3.

My biggest problem is that I am supposed to turn left, my blinker is on, I ready my sights as I reach the street corner, I get there and there's a hard left and curve left, and I always make the wrong choice.

I do agree with every reviewer that there should have been a warp feature or at least a race restart feature. Yeah there's usually a race where I lose, but when you lose something you want to go right back and kick everyone's ass.

I can see though that the races basically always go to the same places, so eventually I'm sure you get the hang of the routes.

I <3 Stunt Runs too. There don't seem to be enough of them, imo. One early one I had to get 15,000 points, and got like 201,000. :yay:

I once crashed so many times within the first couple blocks of a race that I got to the "Damage Critical" stage and was in last place, but I took a couple shortcuts and managed to win by passing the last car literally about 20 feet before the finish line. I put the controller down and just took the awesomeness of that in for a minute or two afterward. :)

One time I took a shortcut and manged to get right by the finish line, right behind the first place guy. Just before he finished he slammed into a truck and spun in the air, I drove under the tumbling car and into 1st place. It was awesome. :woot:

Haha, that's why I love the Burnout series. In every installment, there are so many good moments like that if you play long enough.
