In Burton's Batman movies what do you think he would have looked like??...I'm thinking...black pure black??....Does anyone have pictures? and there own ideas?...-Remeber Tim Burton Robin not Nolan-

Well, Kenner did release a toy of robin in their series for Batman Returns. He was intended to be in the film but of course,he was cut out, but Kenner still decided to release the figure.
This is what it looks like

Same thing happened for B&R. Kenner released a figure of Batgirl with a full cowl before they decided to give her a domino mask

He was basically going to be Marlon Wayans in red and black overalls with an 'R' on them.

I remember seeing that Robin figure in stores back in 1992, but I never took it as being accurate for how Robin would have possibly looked like in the film itself.

Mainly due to the BR Penguin action figure looking nothing like the Danny Devito/Burton Penguin that was featured in the film as well. Which was essentially just a paint job from the DC Superhero toyline back from the late '80's.

I just took it as a way to sell a few more action figures. And that's it.

I don't think we can take that toy as what Robin was going to look like. Firstly, Robin was to be introduced at the end of B89, on the SE there's even an animatic showing it, and that figure is clearly from BR. Secondly, Burton's Robin was understood to be Marlon Wayans, contradicting the figure again. Finally, that figure uses the current Robin 'R' logo, something which may or may not have been used in the film.

From what I can see, that was based on the comics and simply released as a tie-in to BR, much like the Deadshot toys we're seeing currently with TDK.

Its funny you bring this up. If come over to the www.batmanmovieonline.com site, we just uploaded some of Bob Ringwoods Robin designs for Forever. One is VERY Tim Burtonish. Almost looks like that Superman design. Come over and join the site and check it out.

Wow, that first all black suit looks just like the new Watchmen suit. That's crazy...

Lol, anyone got a pic of one of the original Pengy figures?

I remember hearing many many years ago that going into BR Burton helped design what eventually ended up being Tim Drake's original costume as of the early 90's in the comics. Just like the one the action figure is wearing so I'm guessing that's what we would've seen Wayans wear.

I also remember hearing that.

Site exclusives. ;)

If you come join, you can see them tho. They're worth it.

OK, this robin costume first appeared in Batman #457 dated dec 1990. So it was designed before BR, my guess is this figure is styled from the comics at the time with no reference to what the characters looked like in the film. None of the batman figures released in the first lot of BR figures used the BR batsuit, penguin looked nothing like de-vito, and robin was in the line. Catwoman was movie accurate but released later. Even the head of the figure slightly resembles an african american like wayans. Basicly the first wave of BR figures was guess work by kenner and made quickly to get the toys out with the film not realising robin had been scratched. this has been a mystery for me since 1992.

Exactly.

Just passing alont what I heard years ago and looking at Guard's response I obviously wasn't the only one. BTW you guys are aware that BR was in early pre-production stages in 1990 right?

Im glad we didnt see Robin in the Burton films, for me it just wouldnt have worked.

Didnt know that. However, I am aware that Burton states on one of the Batman SE's that the last thing he wanted to do following Batman, was to go from one big budget studio film, to another one. Which explains his next project being the film, Edward Scissorhands. Which in contrast to Batman 1989, was a decidedly smaller production. And to which Burton has said he enjoyed after his experience with directing a summer blockbuster like Batman.

Was this drawn by Tim?

Yes, it was. That's Tim Burton's art. That's Tim Burton's Robin. It was drawn for Anton Furst's birthday in 1988. Here is the whole thing with Batman - very Nightmare Before Christmas/Corpse Bride-ish.

Are we postive this is what Robin would have looked like??...I mean he is to bright to be in a burton movie with Marlon Wayans as Robin also?

well, you cant base the toy on a suit that was never made into the movie. I can say this, the toy bears a very close resemblance to Bob Ringwoods concept art.
